When I was in 6th grade I started getting terrible white heads along my nose and when I was in Middle School I had a boy sit and degrade me verbally by laughing at the acne on my chest when I wore a v neck shirt. People can be so mean. Acne is normal. Thank you for preaching this Cassandra!❤

I had a therapist when I was 14? she was an adolescent therapist so once I turned 18 I couldn’t have her anymore. Haven’t found a therapist since. I loved her SO much I literally cried when it was our last session. And covid f*cked that all up so now I can’t even find anyone accepting new patients , STILL!! I’m 21 now, & I’m in the rooms and if it weren’t for those people I would not be here today.

Ooo I feel this so much. I was 24 during the pandemic and was already having issues finding a therapist. Now, I can’t find any within 20 miles of me who are accepting patients and/or charging a fair copay. The ones I’ve found are around $200-$300 per session 🫠 There’s so much talk about “breaking the stigma” of mental health issues but it’s almost impossible to afford/find help

(Long one sorry) I always wondered why I've never really had acne (1 or 2 around "aunt flo's visit 😆) despite the olive oil 😊 I realized in my 20's that my mom had started me face cleansing with salicylic acid and a twice a day routine when I was 12. Now 44 and a chemo patient as I FULLY INTEND to survive because surviving is what I do. My skin is very different, fragile and sensitive. Thanks to you and @drdray I have a perfectly tuned and affordable routine that will make sure I come out of chemo still having beautiful skin. Thank you 🥰

Hi Cassandra - I just wanted to stop by and say "thank you" for all your content. I've been subscribed to your channel for at least 10 years and it has been so great to see how far you have come in your acne journey. I love your honesty and have found your videos comforting especially years ago when no one else was creating content like this around acne. Also, loved your skin picking video...has been a HUGE problem for me and is related to my ADHD. I had never heard of a psych/dermatologist, so I found that to be very helpful as I'm so sick of going to derms that just slap on a bandaid and don't actually address the root cause. Keep doing what you're doing!!!

Acne doesn't impact somebody's beauty, always remember this! I've never in my seen a beautiful person and thought "they're beautiful but they have acne". This is how most people think when they see you, they only register "beautiful", so make sure that you always remember that.

This made me cry because I was just like you when I was younger. I am so sorry for all of you that struggled with severe acne. Please know that you aren't alone and don't give up on answers and treatments for your skin. I am in my older 30's and am so blessed with the skincare and medications I used when I was younger with cystic acne because it has completely changed my life and my face. Blessed! I always get asked what do you do to get your skin this way? After skin cancer on my face too and multiple other times that has traumatized me a little because I have scar in the middle of my forehead. My Dermatologist knows my history very well and to NOT mess up my face. Lol! Take care!

I feel like us, who went through really severe skin stuff (or other related to appearance), are able to leave the house without makeup, fear, guilt when we have a good skin day, feeling good about our face/body. Before I started to battle a really bad skin inflammation, weight gain and puffiness, all from my meds, I needed to put at least concealer and powder on my face to make myself "presentable" even when going out to trash bin. Now, even with an inflammation, 200% of my base weight and puffed, I acknowledge that I shouldn't be judged on my physical appearance, even if I don't like my current image, and don't feel pressure to put a makeup on. Accepting oneself is a long learning process (may include therapy, psychiatrist, meds, like in my case). Even if we don't judge others by their appearance, we judge ourselves and overthink, assume, that others do. Live your life, you only have one. Better to be remembered by our character than look.

Wow! This hit me big time. In my early teens I had a guy that I had a crush on say I looked like Freddy Krueger. He didn't say it directly to me, but I heard it anyway and felt like utter crap. Everything you said was me. Now, at 50 I'm getting acne again! Its been going on for a few years and has only recently been doing better. I went back to using Paula's Choice clear trio. The pimples are smaller and come to the surface more than just sitting under my skin. I still have very oily skin, and from seeing a dermatologist have various strengths of tretinoin. Was wondering if using the lowest strength in the evening might help a little more. I love your content, Cassandra, and you are the reason I use biossance moisturizer at night! Excellent stuff! I have a PC spf (yes, I like her stuff) but l just don't want my face to get too dry. What a conundrum! I just want to get rid of this last bit of acne. Thank you so much for being the brave butterfly that you are.

I got my first therapy when I was 23~24. Basically when I got to university because our university had that service for students. Very helpful but not sure if I would have ever seen a therapist otherwise. There is still a lot of stigma around it and there is the issue of getting to a hospital itself and expense around it sadly.

Thanks for the video, Cassandra! I'm so sorry for what you suffered with your acne. I'm so sorry that you were bullied by vile people! I'm a much older acne cyster, but mine wasn't nearly as bad as yours. From when I was 12 until I took Accutane at 19, I always had at least one big ugly cystic pimple on my face. And sometimes 2. It was hard on my self esteem, but it wasn't as bad as yours. And I was never bullied. I wish we'd had better topical treatments then. If we had, maybe I wouldn't have had to take Accutane. But I have no regrets; it got rid of the problem. Re makeup, my dermatologist told me not to wear any. I didn't ask why, but I'd guess he was concerned it would make the acne worse. I never wore any until my mid 30s, which was long after I took Accutane. And of course, there weren't products available that were designed to help with acne. None I remember, anyway.

I know these ideas are off topic from this video but I have some video topic ideas that I don't see anyone doing, but I'd love to see: rating sunscreens based on how fast and how much they dry down (for those of us that wear glasses - you know what I'm talking about!), using one mineral sunscreen to start the day but then reapplying with a different mineral sunscreen later (say if you have one you like to start the day with and one to keep in your bag), trying different setting sprays over mineral sunscreens, and definitely more videos about tinted sunscreen and foundation pairings.

Hi Cassandra, I have only recently discovered your RU-vid channel and I already love you! Your videos are so honest, down to earth, informative and funny. Thankfully, I have never experienced the level of acne that you suffered in your younger years. However, I have battled acne since I was a teenager and I’m now 63. New pimples (on the surface and deep below the skin) arrive every. single. day. I have just recently discovered the INKEY List Salicylic cleanser and 20% Niacinamide serum and am loving both of them. I will definitely be leaving the cleanser on my face for a few minutes prior to rinsing it off. Great idea that makes perfect sense. I will also start using my Tretinoin more regularly. I use an SA cleanser, tret .025% and BP as spot treatment (use it all over if i feel like somethings going to happen). This helped me a lot in combating my battle with acne for 8 years. and yes, even with these 3 ingredients only, it can make a difference. It's simple and very easy to maintain.
@morgianasartre6709
@morgianasartre6709 10 месяцев назад
I do something similar but admittedly it is quite hard logistically to use bp with tret, we know that bp degrades tret so I try to use it as a spot treatment, walk around some 20 min and then rinse it off before applying my tret, it is a bother, if possible I just spot treat in the morning when there is no rush to get out fast.

There was a lot of good advice here, but I must disagree with the suggestion to leave an acne cleanser on the skin: the ingredients that let cleansers clean should be in contact with skin as briefly as possible, lest they start to dissolve substances in the skin that are vital for its health. Once these are depleted, the skin's barrier function becomes impaired & a disrupted barrier makes trying to treat acne even more difficult. A better solution is to use a gentle, non-medicated cleanser, as quickly as practicable & to use actives only in well-formulated leave-on products.

Well, I would like to know your medical background? My experience is nothing that is sold over the counter is harmful no matter how long it is left on but which products are you referring to Anon?
@AnneOnymaus
@AnneOnymaus 10 месяцев назад
@@marykuettner752 Why do I need a medical background to know what constitutes good skincare advice? As it happens, I learnt what I know from Paula's Choice Skincare, whose information comes from peer-reviewed research. As for assuming over the counter products aren't harmful, the vast majority contain irritating ingredients (e.g. alcohol, fragrance (natural or synthetic), harsh detergents). Irritation is bad for skin, regardless whether or not you can tell it's happening: damage can occur at a cellular level & contribute to signs of ageing, amongst other things. PCS' ingredient dictionary & ingredient checker are excellent resources to learn what to avoid.

honestly, mental health might be the most important thing if you already feel like you’ve tried everything. thinking your skin is ugly leads to stress, which causes inflammation (like acne), and also reduces the amount of sleep you get (acne), causes mental health issues that further this cycle and can cause poor dietary decisions that can cause acne. it’s all connected but for some people, mental health and stress is the missing piece holding them back. sometimes even if you’re happy, your hormones just won’t let that happen for you. antibiotics, birth control, and accutane are all options too. one thing that helped me is to apply my skincare in the dark, and not look in the mirror. i deleted social media and put myself out there socially. yes, it was scary. but it makes me feel better. i assumed people didn’t want to talk to me because my skin was so ugly but when i started the conversations, i never felt that way anymore. i realized most other teens have acne i never noticed before, and i only notice mine bc i’m used to how my skin looked before. not everyone finds a solution, and recovery is certainly not fast. i’m not even close, i only just started birth control and my acne leaves purple scars that never fade. i have ADHD, anxiety, and depression which is a powerhouse combination for skin picking. also means i suck at maintaining hygiene if i’m tired and i didn’t wash my face last night or put on sunscreen today tbh. in the last week, i washed my face like twice, and once was removing my caked on homecoming makeup. i’ve been relying on tears to remove my makeup like i did this summer after my gorgeous boyfriend dumped me and i stopped sleeping. i self sabatoge so much but i’ve gotten better. there’s nowhere to go but up. i believe in you. and even if your skin refuses to improve, you’re still beautiful. people can still love you. the times i have found people who love me have always been during my lowest points in life where i looked the ugliest id ever been, dirty braces, hair hadn’t been brushed in a week, haven’t showered in a week, hella acne and no makeup, falling asleep on my desk. i mean, just look at everyone you’ve ever appreciated in your life. are the prettiest ones or the ones with the clearest skin your favorite? probably not. because that’s not what makes a human valuable to us. maybe we all value aesthetics to a certain degree, but how someone is inside, how they treat you, their personality, their soul? that’s priceless. you are so much more than your skin.

For me the clue was give up on all the harsh stuff and use La Roche Posay or Avene especially extra sensitive cleaners and also try the products for rosacea because what do you know I had both and because it itched and hurt I couldn’t keep my hands off my face, secondarily my skincare dr gave me 50 mg of zink to take a day with food. 25 mg is normally ok but had a bad case, plus antibiotic cream and oral, thirdly the food I ate turns out that I’m gluten and wheat intolerant plus that lactose plays a number on my skin … much better if I eat the whole cream, butter, greek yougurt ie the fattier the better because lower lactose (Still some outbreaks but much less, Ive tried without any milkproducts which really works but not willing to give upp everything )

Some of your acne recommendations are somewhat inconsistent because you mention the product PHYTO-PIGMENTS Flawless Serum Foundation but this formula contains comedogenic and irritating ingredients such as: Coconut Alkanes and Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon Leaf Cell Extract/Extrait De Cellule Des Feuilles De Citron) ???

I’ve got awfully oily skin. Like at the end of the day I can pretty much soak a sheet of toilet paper through, yet I also have dry and peeling patches. My main acne type is big pea sized (or sometimes bigger) swollen lumps under the skin, there’s rarely any pus, never comes to a head. Once swelling does down I’m left with a dark pink/purple mark (I’m white and pale af, if that helps) Would you be able to recommend me anything in particular? It would be nice to get a video featuring the less bl🩸d and pus types of acne!

I got a question about the onion sunscreen I checked the ingredients and it has homosalate and octocrylene in it, isn’t this a type of sunblock we should avoid using bc of the toxicity? You got a scheme of toxic sunblock on internet that could be harmful

But can I use the cleanser that has salicylic acid as a mask and then use my regular salicylic acid to exfoliate (I use the one from paula’s choice) ? Or because I have that exfoliant I dont need to do the cleanser mask thing?

Does it always have to be an expensive therapist though? Most social workers are qualified to address psychological and/or social problems to level 4 (of 6). Providing emotional support is part of their standard training 🤷🏻‍♀️ America can’t be much different than Europe as the standards for mental health professionals are pretty much the same. Shame people don’t have time for each other anymore. Fortunately younger generations have YT now to seek out (experience) experts in so many different areas. Great video 👍🏻

Benzoyl peroxide - an active ingredient in some acne face washes (cleansers).

@kwoylee5617
@kwoylee5617 10 месяцев назад
@user-nf9hu3be4k The peroxide in the cleanser stains the towels if you wash your face over the sink and wipe it with a towel. By washing your face and rinsing off in the shower, you are less likely to have cleanser residue left on your face that will bleach the towel when you use it to dry yourself.

Casandra, I've been struggling with acne longer than you as I'm older... I still don't understand why you keep insisting on using cosmetics while we both know it will never prevent acne from appearing. Let me explain. Products with retinoids can help you heal a bit more quickly but they are very aggressive and even I with soooo much experience I still get post-retinoid burns (even with more gentle versions of retinoids). Let's be honest here: the only thing that does work with moderate to severe acne is isotretinoin. Guys, please, go to your derm, don't be afraid to get this treatment. I did do full treatment twice but, apparently, it was too late for me to cure my acne 100%(it did improve it dramatically). Also, zinc and biotin may help. No, no cosmetics will prevent acne. They can help you heal pimples but... you can end up very easily with your skin burnt and sensitive. Las but not least: I'm 44 and I'm observing that my post-acne scars are taking much more time to heal than before so my struggle is to prevent, prevent, prevent. Now I'm on isotretinoin micro dosing and it's working wonders. I'm also looking for supplements that would help me with acne. If anyone from here has discovered sth that works, please let me know. ❤

I have always struggled with acne. I didn't have it all over my face, but I would always have it in numerous spots across my face which would always leave me blemished. But during the pandemic, I started watching your videos and I got on retinoids, beginning with the Ordinary 2% emulsion to tretinoin at 0.025% strength and now I've progressed onto tretinoin 0.05% strength. All this in the last 2 years. Now, when I was using retinol and the 0.025%, I had seen a somewhat reduction in my acne but I wasn't sure whether that was the salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide or the retinol. But, now that it's been a while I can visibly see the improvement in my skin. I barely get acne, and even when I do, it clears up really fast without leaving any strong long-lasting blemishes. Tretinoin has truly been a game changer for me, not just for acne but also for the overall texture of my skin. And you have had a lot to do with teaching me about tretinoin and how to start my journey. I'm truly a skintellectual now as I turn and learn my ingredients, with SPF as my BFF, haha. Thank you, @Cassandra Bankson!

Your sunscreen is NOT acne friendly. It contains Sorbitan Oleate. Wish you, as someone who is an esthetician who has acne was more mindful of the ingredients you put in a product you helped create. Pretty disappointed.
