I compared both the Cruzer and the Bosch, similar saws but the Cruzer just seemed like slightly better saw, easier to use, plus it was $150 less expensive than the Bosch. I went with the Cruzer and am very happy with the saw. It was dead on square right out of the box and I LOVE the shadow cut feature.
I think your review was one of the videos that convinced me to get one. I am so glad. This is an amazing saw. Right out of the box it was all level and straight. No adjustments were needed. It slides back and forth as smooth as butter. It cuts so well... So well that you may end up searching for things to cut. Very impressive saw. I love how you can put the saw against the wall, using the mechanical arm rather than sliding rods. It costs more, but worth every penny.
Thanks Man, I'm gonna get the 10" model, its on sale right now for $270. Im not a carpenter, but hopefully this saw will help me fake it 😂. Appreciate the video, Stay Safe out there...
I love this video. thankyou. You take the time to explain the start without rushing forward as a lot of other videos do. I did have an unreated question though. I liked your use of hearing protection and the dust mask. Could you please share if you still like them after years of use ? and also what the models/makes are. Thank you for your help.
So glad you enjoyed the video! I like the RZ mask because it's light but I've started wearing a 3M respirator instead. It does a much better job at keeping dust out of my nose/lungs! Also I use ISOtunes earmuffs these days (if you're interested in these you can use my code to save $10: WSM10 ) isotunes.com/products/isotunes-air-defender
With my current setup using the Oneida system I have a 1-1/2" fitting that slides over the outside of the dust port. I had to add a strip of adhesive backed foam to make it fit well.
Funny the number one complaint I see on this saw is dust collection even with a vacuum on there… what vacuum are you running ? I don’t think a shop vac is gonna cut it with this based on other things I’ve seen
I currently have mine ducted to a 5hp Oneida dust collector and even with that it still manages to throw a fair bit of dust but it's much less than with a standard shopvac.
Picked a 12" Delta Cruzer at Menards for $471 after 11% Rebate. Got the Delta rolling/collapsible miter saw stand as well. BEST purchase ive made for a long time. Not having the guide rails in the back saves storage space, reduces friction during cuts, and maintains zero noise.
So...Bosch designed this type of slide action about 6 years ago and its taken that long for someone to design a patent workaround. From what i can see in your video, The big advantage to this Delta saw over the Bosch is the inclusion of the shadow line. Now, we just need to find some un-biased performance testing comparing the two saws.
I have both saws and they're both good. I still have my Bosch for job site work. I have to give a slight advantage to the Delta in terms of accuracy. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
You, sir, are my new source for unbox therapy! :-) As for the video, can you hook up shop vacs to other compound miter saws with collection bags? That was a *really* slick idea I never would have thought about.
So glad to hear it! 😃😃 Yes, you can hook up a shop vac to most miter saw's that have a bag. It's just a matter of finding the right adapter which can be a project all its own 😂😂
Hey Mike- thanks for the great video. Just two questions 1) how efficient is the dust collection system and where did you get that mask. Thanks again for the great work and helpful info. God bless you.
Thank you very much, I'm glad it was helpful! The dust collection is pretty good. I still have a bit of dust blow out if I'm cutting quickly though. It's an RZ mask! Here's a link 👍🏻👍🏻 amzn.to/33P5Afs Have a great day, God bless
Hey Mike Love this information I just seen. One question! How is that blade that it comes with? Do you think it’s better to change it for getting smooth cuts on boards? I’m torn about my next saw. I have all ridgid tools and I don’t want my tools fighting and beating up the new guy. LOL
Aloha Mike, I noticed that you have Rigid banners in the back ground. I bought a Rigid table saw about 7 months ago and heard some mixed reviews. For example, when adjusting degree of cut with the dial it wont go back to 90 degrees. What is your honest opinion on the table saw Model # R4514?
I'm torn about the 10" or 12", you guys have any observations that could help me decide on it? I'm intending to have it fixed on my wood shop. I'm particular interested in the space saving in the back.., not sure how much they very from the 12 to 10..., any tips I would appreciate it.
Which one did you get? I am in the same position and saving for one. Hope they go on sale as now they are selling the exact same one but Ridgid, the home depot brand. I might get the 10" so I can take in my Civic to work sites.
now that you've been using it coming up on a year soon, what do you think?? Is it still a great saw?? Is it still tight and accurate as far as staying 90 degrees all the way around?? Is there any play in those arms yet??? How is the shadow line when operating in a sunny construction site? I'm thinking of getting this saw once I can afford it, so your feedback after months of use and abuse is greatly appreciated! Oh and speaking of that...what is your level of use and abuse on it? Are you a professional contractor using it every day, or a DIYer using once or twice a month?? Thank you so much in advance! Any chance of a 1 year use review video? Sorry for the lengthy question!
Hi Gary, Those are great questions! It's still a very good saw and holds it's adjustments quite well. There has always been some deflection at the full extension but it's not horrendous. If I need a super straight long cross cut I use my track saw or eventually will use a radial arm saw. I've not used the saw outside, so I can't comment on how easy it is to see on a sunny day. I am a full time woodworker and content creator so it gets a regular workout. I might get around to doing a one year follow up video, but we'll see 👍🏻😃. If you have any other questions just reach out!
Looks like a great little miter saw Mike! Thanks for sharing the video with us, Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! 1 Timothy 1:15-17 is a good one so is John 3:16 👌👍😎JP
Absolutely JP! I'm really impressed with what I'm seeing 😃. Hope you and yours have a wonderful Thanksgiving as well. (pssst, make sure to keep an eye out tomorrow morning 🧐) Yes, that verse puts my own shortcomings in such good perspective, and John 3:16 is obviously pinnacle yet so hard to grasp as a parent. I mean, wow, what kind of love that is!
Hello great video and Thanks, The question I have is after 3 years , you still happy with that Delta Machine? or any complaints???, some reviewers complained about flexing too much laterally. Thanks again and happy new year.
Thanks and happy new year to you too! I like the saw and compared to the Bosch glide saw I had previously the lateral movement is slightly less. There is still some at the farthest extent, but for the majority of tasks it's not enough to be problematic. For me, the biggest thing to improve the accuracy is a good blade and taking your time in the cut. If you need dead on angles with zero run out/deflection along the cut I'd buy a vintage RAS (like the DeWalt GA I have) build a good crosscut sled for the table saw, but a standard 12" miter saw, or buy a Festool kapex. Hope that helps!
Thanks Donnie! The hose I have actually fits the saw and shop vac without any adapters needed 👍🏻 I don't know if they still sell it, but you could check out the Dust Right flexiport power tool hose kit from Rockler
@@WoodshopMike Mike-- I just got my 12" Cruzer today and have same question as Donnie. So what shop vac, specific model do you have that fits without adapters? I'll have a dedicated vac hooked up to this saw so might as well get one that fits. THANKS for the great review and pointing out all the features.
@@WoodshopMike thanks for the reply! I just grabbed the Ridgid 10" model (identical to the cruzer). It was on sale for $219 and I felt like I couldn't pass at that price!
Mike, I really like your videos! Your worktable and outfeed table videos were awesome! You make it look easy! At this point I'm just trying to get comfortable with my table saw. It's still a standalone unit (mobile worksite version) so I'm looking forward to making it part of a workbench so I can have a built-in outfeed table.
Thanks for the video... can you tell me what the minimum dimensions of the table this needs to rest on are? Specifically what are the distances between the points where it touches the table?
bruce frederick do you care to elaborate and give more detail? What exactly were you needing as far as parts? And I’ve contacted Delta for parts just 2-3 years ago and no issues. Also typically finding a Delta dealer and giving them a call for parts is usually always the best and fastest method for parts.
I have the Bosch version & love it but this Delta looks really impressive. I don’t understand why the dust boot on all Mitre saws is not bigger but small modifications can make them better as well as a dust box. Great review 👍👍👍
@Woodshop Mike since you’ve had the Delta for a while now, What are your thoughts on it compared to the Bosch Glide? I’m in the market and I’m trying to decide between the two.
Does it have bad deflection? Some reviews I’ve read have said that due to the glide system it can deflect and go off alignment when to much pressure is out on it.
I've not noticed any excessive deflection in my saw. I know Delta focused on reducing the deflection from the Gen 1 to the Gen 2 Cruzers. I will say that this saw has noticably less deflection than my Bosch glide saw or other sliders I've had in the past.
Woodshop Mike awesome! I’ve seriously been considering this for my workshop saw, it’s between this 2nd gen delta and the first gen Jet 12”. The Jet 12” now has a 2nd gen but doesn’t seem to be as unique and heavy duty. I run the Multivolt 10” from Metabo HPT (Hikoki) for my jobsite, and hopefully soon to purchase the 7 1/4 Multivolt as well. As far as a nice 12” that I can use primarily in the shop but if I need to take to a job site, strong components and power will be my big decision making factor. Thank you for this fantastic review and would love to hear your thoughts on the Jet 12” first and 2nd gen if you have heard or have any first hand experience. Cheers and happy holidays 🍻🎄🍻🎄🍻
@@benjaminromshak9904 happy to help! I unfortunately don't have any hands on experience with the other saws you mentioned. Maybe something to ping Jet about 😃 I hope you and yours have a safe holiday season and Merry Christmas as well!
I have the 10” version of this. The lock to keep it from sliding doesn’t stay in place while driving so I have to use a bungee. The dust collection is pretty bad and the handle location sucks for adding a vacuum attachment. Also it’s pretty heavy and awkward to carry. However the controls are nice and the arms are really smooth. If Makita had the shadow line I would have bought their latest slider.
I agree the shadow lone is nice , i have the harbor freight Hercules great machine but big, been thinking on this delta for a while because it have the shadow line , the bosh for example does not have that.
@@wwmilanl I actually ended up selling mine because I was using it as a job site saw and even at 10” it’s huge. Guy who bought it was going to use it for his shop
Nice to see the metal miter scale. Years ago some manufacturers switched to those cheap, stick on scales and they are fine until they start lifting in the corners. Then next thing you know, an inch of it lose just blowing in the wind. Also, I find it easier to adjust a scale that is screwed down instead of messing around with the fence to align cuts.
@@RobyWanKenobi oh I gotcha! Yeah it's really easy to remove the fence extension. I haven't had any issues with it. Sorry I realize that's what you were asking originally 👍🏻
@@WoodshopMike all good. Looking forward to hearing more about this saw in your videos. Wonder how stable/accurate is the saw head at full extension compared to Hitachi 12 inch slider? A couple years ago was looking at it but no one really had it and the hitachi had good feedback and half the price during black Friday. Been happy but big dislike is the front to back movement has alot of resistance compared to others brands with rails so I am looking to upgrade.
From what I've seen out of the gate this saw is much more stable at full extension than other sliders I've used. The movement forward and back is crazy smooth too! Delta focused on the stability of the saw head for the Gen 2 model
