Wow! What an episode! They managed to jam so much into one and it didn't feel too rushed at all. The crazy nanofiber scene was I believe either the finale or one of the last couple episodes of the Tencent version so to see it happen at episode 5 here is crazy. I do think the Tencent version did do a better job with that scene but it was still amazing. Now the Sophon scene.. Setflix knocked it out of the park. Absolutely incredible visuals. I mumbled through some theories at the end but all I could really come up with is: we are fuc--bugs.

san-ti never lie, and they want make human fear again. Besides that, a lot ppl ask how san-ti communicate with Evans, so this is a good plot to explain, because of Sophons.

They don't and can't lie amongst themselves but to humans, oh you bet they will learn to lie.

Yeah I guess this was just more of a plot advancement type scene. They don't lie but they still do go out of their way to explain all of this. I guess you could say that them explaining this and then also showing the entire world as well would cause the human race to go 'crazy' and further stop science.

Just found your channel and think you have an interesting perspective as a non-book reader and tencent version fan. Not sure if it's been mentioned in comments in other videos but Netflix has, in my opinion, done such a cool and creative adaptation laying down the ground work for all three books in this season; hence Will, Jack, Saul, and a few other characters seeming out of place. This season ends during the first ~50 pages of book two. I do like your hypothesis' on how we attempt to beat the sophons. This is why books 2 and 3 are some of my favorite pieces of Sci-Fi. The imaginative ideas and the scale in it are 2nd to none.

Yeah netflix has done a great job. Haven't heard much about the ground work but I am really excited to see what happens in the future. I'll probably need to checkout the books as I'm not sure I can wait what will probably be 2+ years for season 2 of the netflix and tencent versions.

I think the reason they explained their plan to us was a game theory type reason. Knowing that there is confusion around every scientific corner will make humanity trust science even less than the mystery of why scientific results are weird. We know that the results of experiments are being messed with, so all results are now in question. Not only that they are trying to instil fear, and knowing their plan will make people scared and turn on each other.

Great point. Showing all of humanity this will have massive implications.

I'm not a big fan of the Tencent version and the Judgment Day scene is one of the best examples why. In that version, Wang Miao asks "General Stanton" (one of the worst actors I've ever seen) if there will be any innocent people on the boat. The general walks Wang over to a whiteboard where he says, "We've investigated the whole crew; they are a bunch of terrorists, murderers, serial killers and mercenaries. In fact, one of them killed my seven year old son." Then they show us the cartoonish Arab-looking guy who just randomly kills someone on the boat for no reason. The show really went out of its way to take away any moral ambiguity from the scene. I don't know if it is self-censorship or gov't imposed but I can really feel the heavy hand throughout the series. It's as if they are afraid of showing anything that is controversial or would arouse differing opinions. I understand that that show is made for a different audience, but I'm quite surprised to see so many Westerners uncritical about that aspect of it.

This is one of the reason that I quit watching that version.

I was more referring to the lead up to the judgement day scene in particular. Where they sort of come up with the idea and all that. I remember that Stanton actor now though. Definitely one of the most jarring acting performances I've ever seen. It was so out of place lol. Good point about the moral ambiguity stuff. Netflix definitely did a better job with that.
