50 is just the minimum amount they can serve. The sentence is 50-life. So that means the one sentenced to 50-life will be eligible for parole after serving 50 years. In all likelihood he will serve life.

Meaning one guy will be 70 years old just to see the parole board and they can say no. If they keep saying no they will have to do time. Basically they can die in prison. If the judge said 25 to life then they would do 25 years then see the parole board but the board can turn them down. Just say you don't know.
