#3 Climbing Vandalino, finishing the solar and visiting a local art collector

Monte Vandalino is the first mountain right next to my property. You can drive up a track quite far and then it's a short hour walk to the top. I've finished the solar setup so it's ready to be locked and switched off. And I was invited by Daniele, a director of a museum in Turin and grandson of artist and freemason Paolo Pachetto.

A thought - if its not already too late - when you bury the cable from the solar shed to the cabin, bury two. That way, all you will have to do when you upsize the plant is to hook it up. Going up at least one wire size will also help as you will get less loss. Easy to do initially, less easy later to retrofit.

Even the old man you spoke with…you could see with his books and maps that he came from a different time. Old world. I love the old world. I love simplicity and I am going back to this way of life. Your restorative build sounds adventurous and healthy. Thanks for the footage of the area and you two buildings, and the visit to the art guy, . Some people that live off grid like yourself complain about the cold, due to living in cabins that are not insulated, we in Canada say “ it’s not the cold weather it’s the wrong clothes” thermal underwear , wooly hats, real cashmere sweaters and good goose jackets with hoods, strong gloves and heavy insulated boots should solve all that, invest in all these and you should be fine.
@ghomerhust

absolutely incredible seeing the history of the area there, with the stone workers, and learning the name of your little home. i am jealous of the history there, because the US has so little actual history by comparison. our natives left very little to be discovered, so our hard history didnt really even start until the 1600s, several thousand years behind the solid history that was being built all over europe and the isles.

Just began watching your series so this might be a bit late. If you haven't already dug in your power cable to the house, do yourself a BIG favor and take advantage of digging the ditch and install a conduit in the ditch instead of just burying the cable. As a retired electrician, I would suggest nothing less than a 1" conduit. You can use PVC. Just bury it deep enough so it doesn't get damaged by someone digging (usually about 1.5 feet is enough). You can also help to protect it by laying some yellow plastic "caution" tape above it in the ditch so anyone digging will expose the tape before hitting the conduit. Since it's 50 metres (over 100 feet), I would suggest bringing the conduit up out of the ground to a "raintite" junction box at roughly mid point. This will help with installing the power cable in the conduit. The benefit of the conduit is that you can use cable sufficient for your current needs and simply add more/bigger cable later without digging another ditch. When you install your first cable, be sure to include an "Pull String" for adding any future cable. Good luck on the project. Always enjoy people being creative, industrious, and clever!!! ;o)

Bro, don't take the stone off the roof before winter, put cob in the gaps!! Then just make window frames with high density foam, and then wrap it in plastic wrap (dual panes), and wedge it in the window openings. You'll be set for winter and still get daylight.
