P S oh yes, I watch a lot of these and think how easy these professionals with years of training make it look. On and off I’ve been working on the famous painting “Girl with a Pearl Earring” for 3 years, but when I try and use the information like I’ve looked at today, it most certainly will not go the same. I will not give up on this though because I’ve already put too much into it! She may not look quite the same at the girl but it will be my version!

This is, by far, the best internet site on portrait painting. No one else explains the main zones of coloring. No one else paints so boldly with a wide brush, gripped some distance from the bristles, with the hand unsupported by a maul stick. Nor does anyone else work from memory. Ben is not only a fine painter: he's a fine draftsman.

I learned so so so much from this video! You are a wonderful teacher. Many artists have a hard time explaining as so much is just reflex for them. You however, break it down perfectly. Thank You for sharing these essential foundations in constructing a face. You articulated and demonstrated your basic example masterfully. Not until now have I been able to make sense or understand how to even begin . With drawing it's no problem, however with painting, it has at times just been so frustrating even feeling as though it has wrecked my world.
