I think it would still be worth the visit to the top. It has a really cool view at night. Just bring a thick jacket and you should be fine.

My family of 6 is planning to travel to Japan and Korea from December 20, 2023 to Jan 5, 2024 but were are debating whether its better to stay in Japan for Christmas and then go to Korea. Or is better to stay in Korea for Christmas and then go to Japan. Is there lots of things to do and are places open during Christmas or New Year's? Also my teenage kids are interested in cafes and manga, so where would you recommend for us to stay? Is there any family onsen in Tokyo or near Tokyo. Appreciate any advise you can provide.

Can't speak about Korea very well, but Japan definitely has plenty of things to do around Christmas and New Year's. Shops will be closed for a few days around New Year's but there are still plenty of things to do like seeing the snow in Gunma mountains or going to Hakone in the winter. Hope that helps!

Yomiuriland has jewellumination. The entire amusement park is covered in lights for the winter. That's the one I had my eye on for when I visit Tokyo in February. Costs money to get in though

Yea I was considering going out there for the video, but it's too much time and money. It's worth the trip, just have to kind of commit half if not a full day to Yomiuri Land and the surrounding area.

Depends what kind of scene you're looking for. Clubs, I would say Shibuya. For a more relaxed time, you can find some rooftop bars in Tokyo that will be a fun way to countdown the new year.

Really depends on what you want to do. Clubs and bars are always a thing. As for fireworks, I don't think there will be any. Temples will be open though!

You missed out on the most important place for the authentic Japanese Christmas, eating a Christmas bucket at KFC big oversight on your part. Great video almost regret going to Spain in January, guess all get over it.

god I have to go back to Japan in December ... there will be endless cleaning, writing New Year postcards and visiting relatives ... the Winter weather comes down from Siberia and drops snow on the mountains but then in Tokyo it's just cold, dry wind. And ... for some silly reason I don't understand ... there are performances of Beethoven's 9th Symphony ...

Great! I arrive in Japan the 26th and I remember reading that supposedly right after Xmas Japan starts to take down the Xmas lights. So I was worried I was going to miss out on having options (Ik there’s 1 that’s till feb).

Christmas decorations in Canada are pretty weak now and they're switching to "happy holidays" and "winter celebrations" but they have no problem talking about Diwali or Eid etc.. bizarre.

That sucks though I looked up Diwali and it said "It symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance". The festival is widely associated with Lakshmi, goddess of prosperity and Ganesha, god of wisdom and the remover of obstacles" which does sound pretty grandiose. Yeah winter celebrations is about water down as it gets well at least you have alternatives to visit. I also recommend Colombian Christmas too if you want to warm up and enjoy the Christmas vibe.

Sucks the PC hype is hitting hard around the world. But, at the same time, people are getting tired of walking on eggshells and starting to take a slow round turn on all this. Either way, I think everyone means good, but it can get a little carried away sometimes.
