If you’re keen on making some modifications to the rocker box I would recommend that the first adjustment you make is putting some higher sides on the hopper, it makes putting material through it just that much easier by containing the splashes a bit and letting you put some more material in Also it allows you to shake the rocks around more violently when you are washing them

I'm 73 years old and I found out I had a red/green color deficiency when I enlisted in the Marine Corps at age 17. It wasn't enough to keep me from enlisting but it was bad enough that I never saw combat; they trained me as a computer programmer (COBOL) and I worked in air conditioned comfort for my 3 year enlistment. A few years after I got out of the Marines, I applied for a job as a lineman for Bell Telephone and I washed out of that when I had to match different colored shades of wire together. You do quite well for having color vision problems. We see what we see and adapt and overcome. I have been following your videos for about two years and look forward to each new one.

Maybe add a foot pedal to the rocker box? That would free up the other hand to use a bucket or you could stand upright and save your back a bit? A lot of old tools or early machines ran on foot power. Maybe easy as a fixed “lever” firmly attacked to the side of the box. 🤷‍♂️ That’s my suggestion to improve the rocker box. I figure ya won’t see this post, but maybe.

Rocker box as automatic pan --- I like that analogy. Sometimes it's fun to relax and not be so worried about efficiency and production, and just enjoy the process. There are days where I just want to pan, and I couldn't give two shits about how much gold I get.

Chris, I've watched you for a while now, and always enjoy your videos. They have been very educational, and I admire your knowledge of geology, mineralogy, and history, you know what you're talking about. I'll probably never have the chance to pan for gold, age, finances, and area are against me today, but I wish I had the knowledge I've gained from you back in the days I was hiking around the Rockies in the gold mining areas. I saw many a sign of mining, but never even thought about what was, MOST probably, in the streams, creeks, and rivers I encountered in some very remote back country. I'm thinking my "finances" would be in a whole different zone right now if I had this knowledge back then!🤔🤯 I've watched so many of your videos weighing your gold, and, side note, thank you for that, that I've gotten pretty good at estimating your gold's weight, and when you said you thought you had 1.5 grams, I said Naw, that's an easy 2 grams. It came to 2.1 grams. Good job, Chris. Thanks again for your videos.

i got a thought, what about using a small spray bar with larger holes around the top rim of the rocker box so you have moor flow vs "SPRAY", I KNOW U SAID YOU DONT WANT TO but hear me out. it would take some thinking to avoid clutter but what if you hooked up a switch/push button to the top of the rocker box handle. That way could wouldn't need the ladle and the water would only turn on and off when you hit the button. Not sure how hard on the pump it would be switching it on and off a hundred times in a day. your could build a little shelf/basket on the side of the rocker box to hold the battery, make the wiring to the switch shorter, and the only thing that could be in the way is the water hose n pump. My modern thought process to update a rocker box.

“Cousin jack” you said so people think your related to him even though you explained he’s a patron lol but he’s a cool dude in my opinion and it was nice to see him. Nice gem stones, and as for that black rock it’s a slight possibility that it’s a fulgurite. Hmm should I explain or let you google it…. I’ll explain fulgurites are formed from lightning strikes they can look like glass or anything really just depends on the material the lightning hits the little botryoidal (bu-troy-dul) bubbles are what leads me to this deduction. That’s a very nice specimen bummer on the rain messing you up but like you said you’ll get it. NOW FOR MY FAVORITE PART OF THE VIDEO…. 34+ minutes was a treat so thanks for that I miss the longer videos 😬and thanks for sharing see you on the next one👍🏼👊🏼P.S. you said you can’t afford hard rock prospecting equipment BUT… you have spud engineering… soooo is it possible to scale up your 4 inch grinder crusher to something with an electric motor and a bigger hopper and crushing chamber????…. Food for thought…. I think you can in my opinion..

Hi Chris! Thank you for sharing so much valuable information. Today I learnt about Jasper because of your video and, I do come across a lot of Jasper while panning, they are around the size of baseballs. They always stuck out to me as special but only picked up one. Do you have any videos about the different gemstones and crystals that can be found? Im always on the lookout for pretty rocks but can hardly identify them and I wish to able to do so. Thanks!
