after years of wanting to learn skateboarding, i finally bought one this year & this is my first video documenting three days of learning skateboarding (still a noob). enjoy! :))
love skating progress journeys, if you make it a series I will follow intently. Love your board ( mine is also orange deck+blue wheels! ) and great video production too.
Keep it going. You are doing well. Document/ record as you go. It's cool to record. I wish i had captured some of my early falls, including my early attempts on my drop ins. Every session is different. Some times after you progress, it's hard to be back at that beginning stage. Don't let anyone stop you from what your are doing. And, yes bend those knees.
That's whats up! I love this! Keep going, A Skateboarding journey in life is a thing of beauty. I will definitely be here for the ride. MUCH LOVE from Los Angeles Cali!
Good luck you two. It's great exercise. First order of business: how to slow down by dragging one foot, how to stop by hanging your heel off the back of the tail and letting it slide against the concrete as a brake.
If you are scared to be kidnapped i suggest you pick different places to skate at everytime you are going to record because there are such insane/evil and scary people online who would most likely recognize the place you are at and actually camp the place until you arrive and actually kidnap you, you never know, those 250 subs you got it only requires 1 of all of them to live where you live and recognize the places you go to, i don't really wanna make you paranoid by this message but if you are really feeling that you would get kidnapped then this might be something you should think about to always change your routines and times so it wont be so obvious, and also, nice video! goodluck with your skate journey and hopefully you will go far! EDIT: Also forgot to mention it would be good to let someone close relative to know where you are going to as well, so they know your "last location" so to speak.
I’m afraid of getting raped at night time and I’m a dude. There are crazies everywhere, but all jokes aside. I think female are at more risk than guys having bad things happened to them. I live in Philly, which has a high crime rate and skate at night time. Try to skate in a nicer area or in a plaza where a lot of people.
Some tips that might help you out: - bend your knees more, it'll give you better balance, more confidence and prevent the board from shooting from underneath you before you manage to step off (really important) - make sure your front foot isn't too far ahead, you should be able to put all your weight on it without it nose-diving, don't cover the 2 front bolts or only just about cover them - keep your legs more apart, especially your back foot seems to be a bit too much in the center of the board - the more apart they are the better your balance, the best position for the back foot is right in the dip/groove of the tail, it'll naturally want to slide in there - practice transition from pushing (100% weight on the front foot which should face the nose of the board) to riding (balance closer to 50-50, feet mostly sideways), it's all about getting that front foot to pivoting from being straight to being sideways at the exact time your back foot gets on the board
Tighten the trucks a bunch more, and keep the front truck a little looser than the back truck. Also replace the trucks and wheels when you can with low trucks (I like venture lows), and 54mm 97A wheels. Deck brands have different feels and angles to them, you should try as many brands as you can to see what dimensions feel the most right with you. Fun things to try, Practice running with your board in your hand and throwing it down and jumping on it as it comes down. Then try learning to stop by kicking the board up with your back food, to catch it in your hand while moving. Also look up powersliding videos! Good luck!
the editing is so my vibe! i really like the scenery (the street of the last day is really prettyyyyy thats how i wanna get my ac island to look) and perspectives and where the cuts are
I have skated that graphic before! cool vlog. cant wait to see your first 360 flip. you may notice skating in the rain or letting it get wet too much takes its toll on the wood and bearings...but sometimes you just gotta do it.
I'm a Brazilian punk, I skate and go to college and I also really like practicing my English and other languages, your videos are a way to have fun and practice, I love your vlog videos, it reminds me of RU-vid from 2016, without tiktok and other bad social networks :)
Hey, all the best on your skate journey. Get a set of pads, it'll boost your bravery by 50%. I highly recommend it. Don't be afraid to fall with it. Learning to fall is also essential in skateboarding
I just started learning too! Good luck :))) Highly recommend wearing at least wrist guards as a lot of people instinctively put our hands out when we fall!!
Doing great already! The best tip I can give you is to just ride, every single day, no matter what. Just go out and ride. You'll quickly become VERY comfortable riding your board!
If I might make a recommendation. Practice visualizing skateboarding by watching skate videos. This has proven to be a means of actually building muscles related to the exercise/sport. I've tested this visualization with violin and skateboarding, and reason I can jump back into violin or hop back on a board after 10 years of not skating (which I did in 2022) and is due to regular visualization techniques.
Like. Ánimo! Sigue así. Yo volví a patinar después de casi 20 años, lo retomé a los 36 años, empecé con un longboard, luego surfskate y ahora skate tradicional, siempre Santa Cruz. Saludos 🛹💨🤙🏻🇪🇦
At this level the fastest way to improve is just ride everywhere. Don’t drive to your skate spot.. choose a closer spot and ride there and back all the time and everywhere. If you want to get into “tricks”, start with the hippie jump. Hippie Jump is the number 1 beginner step to get used to jumping and getting back on the board.
Hippie jump is actually a really good idea, I've never really thought about it much, but you have to be used to landing on the board for probably 95% of tricks in every discipline.
My favorite past time is going to a local quarry and finding as many loose pebbles as I can and then driving to the nearest skate park so that I can unload my beautiful rock collection across the entire park for all of the riders to see and enjoy.
lol i like skating those parking structures because you can be alone, but it makes me afraid to ollie because im afraid ill hit my head on one of those pipes
incredible progress in such a short span of time /in the future you'll wanna move your back foot a little further towards the tail. while stationary, try pivoting the nose of the board in 5 degree increments. forward and back
As others have said here in comments it is great that you start by riding your skateboard instead of tricks as it builds confidence and board feel. After you are comfortable on your skateboard and can feel how it behaves tricks will become more natural, just being able to easily do tick tacking around is great before doing ollie. Ollie is all about muscle memory and synchronising different at first unnatural movements. Keep going and have fun :)
Hello Veren Chang, my advice to learn tricks is get the ollie first then it opens up more ways to try things like pop shuv it, go down a small incline like a hill to get speed and balance becomes more easier when your moving quickly and yes it's scary to go to some places, always have a wing man to film or just chill with, cheers good work. Thank you for sharing
Hey Veren! Good job. What will help is loosening your trucks just a lil bit till you can comfortably correct the boards angle without falling off. Notice earlier in the vid when you try push and you go off to the left (as well as towars the end on the smooth path), and the board stays straightish or to the right? Slightly looser trucks will give you control of balancing it out with the foot on the board. Try to also add in some tictacs till you can go from standstill to moving (it's like space walks but without the manual) Forgot to add: enjoy the journey, skateboarding is hella fun!
@BreakfastBacon her wheels are lifting slightly. They can do a quarter turn more. Either that or she switch to medium bushings but there's no need to replace components when she can just loosen them slightly. Don't get me wrong, once she's comfy kick pushing she can tighten them up more. But not being able to adjust the board with your non pushing foot will make it harder Another note: check the body language. If she has to make drastic moves to compensate for something her feet should be doing. There's clearly room to tweak.
you know what i think youre right, im so incosistent and unmotivated with my shit and social accountability is real asf so im gonna just start recording myself playing bass and then post it so i can finally develop a single damned skill
Love and encouragement, learning to skate and sticking with it is an incredible journey just like life. Looking forward to your progress and more content. Have a blessed day.
I wouldn't recommend having too much skin showing because you'll end up with more grazes. Jeans do offer some good protection when you slide bailing tricks.
no way this is your first time on a board! looking good! I know what you're going through. after a decade long break from skating (injury/surgery) I struggled to keep my balance as well 😛 then I had to stop again because of my work, now I'm planning to get back into it. if you're bored, here is a playlist of me and my friends skating =) ru-vid.com/group/PL926FP6PhU8F99-99g4-FTh4FPDaZGkGo
Goofy footed-supremacy! It's been so long since I first skated, but I'm curious why and how your chose to ride primarily goofy footed? For myself it was my stronger articulation with my right foot forward for tricks
@@verenchang you don't have to, but it can help if you do tricks to practice how the motion feels. I practiced on an empty tennis court or against a chain link fence to catch myself placing my feet regular footed (left foot first while moving forward, toes on the right side of the 🛹 skateboard)
@@verenchang happy to help, I enjoy skating til this day, and it needs more positivity vs the negative rep it has among cops. Most skaters actually obey laws and respect property. As they say, "leave a place in the same or better condition than how you found it". Good luck and have fun
Try loosening your Trucks!!! That's why you keep leaning and stepping off your board. When you shift your body weight with looser trucks, your board will more freely turn with your body weight!!! Please consider this!!!
Where do you live that has such nice, empty lots to skate? Also, you are very good for just starting. I had a really hard time pushing for the first month.
@@verenchang also, I've been skating for like decades. I'm just impressed with your progress and your partners if he also just started. You two just have better coordination than I did.
Hey sis is ur skate board made of plastic or wood please tell me I also want to try it but don't know which one is the best wood or plastic please tell me I also want to try 😅😊
This is the only comment you need to see! Have fun an do you, Imagine the skater you want to be and be exactly that. Whether it’s Street, transition etc just find your own rhythm an go after it. Just know It doesn’t come overnight but if you willing to get your ass whooped by your board every time you go out your gonna process faster than you think! Also Knee pads mama…you’ll thank me later haha
