There are many great Flasher/Fly combinations that will garner the angler action on Summer Kings. In this video, Capt. Bill Saiff III takes a look at 3 of our favorite Flasher/Fly combinations. 2 of these Flashers exhibit the Pro-Troll E-Chip while the other is of the Spin Doctor variety. These combinations work well as "stand alone" offerings but they also serve double duty as
"Attractors" designed to ignite the rest of the pattern. Fish get taken on Dipsey Divers and Downriggers in this video.

I live on southern Vancouver Island where I have operated a salmon charter business for 40 years. Black, white, green, UV's and purples or some combination are the colours. No one uses flies, it's all rolling bait, spoons and hootchies. Flasher colours are chrome, glow white, green and UV or some combination(my favourite is UV on white but green on chrome is very popular) Early season the spoons are deadly, late-season you have to roll bait. The hoochies have a better hooking percentage than the spoons because the hook lays in the right place for the soft takes. If you have a good hootchie it's hard to beat -even when using a single barbless siwash hook. Your flies would definitely get the job done around here they look pretty fishy. Cheers

We had a funny staging period on Kings this year!!!! We always roll bait during this time frame but this year the flies did 90% of the damage!!! The take on bait was very sparse for some reason? We think it might have had to do with the excessive amounts of warm water?

@@BillSaiffOutdoors I moved out west from Ontario when I was 11 years old in 1972. I was in Burlington when the first Chinook runs returned to Bronte and the Credit River. There was no lake fishery at that time. The lampreys had pretty much killed everything. Sure is an awesome salmon and steelhead fishery you have there now. I enjoy watching these videos... you guys sure run a lot of gear. I have a 40 ft retired commercial salmon troller and typically run two downriggers with no stack. I've been lucky enough to catch 61lb and a 57lb Chinooks, if you go on my FB, (Allan Crow, T'Souke BC) and look through my photos you will see some really nice fish. If you ever make it to Vancouver Island I'd be happy to take you fishing...you'd have to bring some of those flies and spoons.

Hey Bill, I'm good friends with the owners of the two largest gear retailers on southern Vancouver Island, you've got some really nice looking spoons and flies I know would sell like hotcakes.

Hey Bill. Heading out on the north shore tomorrow morning. There will be a south wind that has been blowing for a couple days. Would you stay closer to shore or hit the blue zone? Should be warm water in close with the south wind. Thanks

Hey Bill, Great video, how far do you run the flasher/fly combo off the rigger ball?
@BillSaiffOutdoors
@BillSaiffOutdoors 3 года назад
Oh Boy! That's a loaded question......... I am fond of building patterns so that changes on a daily basis. When Kings are active and I am using a single flasher to pull them into a spoon pattern, I will generally run them just inside the spoons. Typically, that will be about 15ft. behind the ball. Spoons will be set at 20-25 feet. When I am fishing the staging period. I will have some flashers close but others will be set in a "tail gunning" position. Usually 35-50 feet behind the ball for a tail gunner!

I have run dipseys without snubbers. What advantage do you realize with the snubber
@BillSaiffOutdoors
@BillSaiffOutdoors 4 года назад
There is no give in the Wire Line so when a King strikes, the snubber will provide a buffer so that your leader lines are not broken. Snubbers like Luhr Jensen's have a dacron core so the rubber will stretch but only to the point that the dacron core becomes taught. Other snubbers like Dream Weaver's are braided rubber with no core. This rubber is heavier duty and can take more shock. If you choose to run without a snubber, you will have to run very heavy leader lines (not my preference) to ensure that lines are not broken.

21 inches behind the 8" inch flashers. Chiquita, Mooneye and the Hulk are the 3 "go to" flies.
