I love this tutorial. I am just starting on my first piece and this helps make it so much clearer when you start and end threads and which direction you go for what ever pattern you're doing... Which seems simple at first but I got so zoned out I had to pay attention.😂

Some mention katha here, absolutely correct. Id seen village woman sew layers upon layers of scrap fabrics and old cotton sarees as outer layers and make warm dense quilts for winters that were very, very warm.

@@kadenmoore7918 even though both are made of running stitches, sashiko and kantha are different in origin. Kantha is a quilting embroidery and independently originated in Bengal. Sashiko is a reinforcing or patching technique. They are different in their original utility.

Is it really? It's like the most simple stitch possible(running) and sashiko originated with Japanese farmers trying to extend the life of their clothes.

Sorry, I did not understand what you do with the ends of the thread? You said to leave 6 to 12 cm pf the thread, but as i can see you just cut the end? How it does not fall apart?

It is also called visible mending. You can use this technique to add patches to clothes and make them look good even after fixing. Or collect these squares and make a blanket, table runner or wall art. There are many great patterns, not just easy lines or crosses. Have fun
