sPod is so much easier and better with the touch screen. My 2 cents you will save more in wiring and labor and only run a single wire through firewall for 8 switches. Can run a second unit in tandem with same touchscreen on same wire for 16 switches if your rig is really crazy.

Honestly crazy thankful you guys created this how to guide. Really helped to break-down/explain the path to properly connecting switches to your accessories; as a victim of novice mistakes- I’ve blown many fuses and relays trying to figure things out myself. I only ever went with non-LED switches because they’d always “pop”. This guide makes me excited because now I can do a better job wiring accessories on my 3rd Gen, where my 2nd Gen played as my proving grounds. Thanks TacomaBeast

Excellent video. I pretty much did this without all those connectors but they look really handy and neat. Looks like a great product. I didn't know about the cargo light connection since I also have an access cab Taco, thank you for the info. Will have to use that next time. Also the cover for the fuse box is a great addition since the factory one breaks as soon as you take it off and has no room for a tap a fuse. Great video good explanation throughout your installation I have a question so for each accessories red wire has to have its own relay unless you have a higher amp relay? Or can do it at all
@Yankeefan78471
@Yankeefan78471 2 года назад
You will want 1 relay per accessory/switch. When the relay coil opens it delivers power to all accessories connected to it. So unless you want one switch to power multiple accessories, you’ll want to get a relay for each switch/accessory combination.

I'm wiring fog lights using the stock GX460 wiring. I'm tapped into the relay wire on the ECU harness. If you ground that wire, it activates the fogs. My question is, do I connect that wire to the Toyota type switch on the relay wire? Tn do I connect "source" (green) to a ground point? Appreciate the advice.

Awesome video, awesome product. Question: if your light bar has its own harness with relay; does the black wire not get used going to the switch? It would appear that it is only the ground for the backlight which is now being taken care of in your harness. Thoughts?
@Yankeefan78471
@Yankeefan78471 2 года назад
That’s right - if your light bar harness is supplying ground to the preexisting switch you would disregard it as the switch illumination harness takes care of ground. You can just put electrical tape over the bare end or heat some shrink tubing and pinch the end to “cap” the unused ground.

If you’re talking about illuminating the backlight of an SP9100 then yes the left of steering wheel harness can be used. You just cut the 2-pin connector off the left of steering wheel harness and attach the white wire from the SP9100 (supposed to go to the parking lights) to the red wire on my harness. You could then just cap the black wire.

@Yankeefan78471 2 года назад
It will not as I designed it for the 3rd Gen Tacoma which has different factory connectors than the 4Runner.

If I have a aux beam do I still need the relay?
@tacomabeast
@tacomabeast 2 года назад
The harness is not designed to support auxbeam, but the auxbeam relays are built into the fuse block 🤙
@DaveRogers583
@DaveRogers583 2 года назад
Instead of in-line fuses I'd use a fuse block and mount it and all relays near each other. Fuse block usually has a ground bar to accommodate as many grounds as positive wires. This provides ground and hot from battery for many accessories in one spot and usually has red indicators that illuminate if a fuse is blown. Not necessary if you're only wiring one or two accessories but even then it leaves room for additional accessories later.

where did you get that shift knob :O

It’s just a TRD Pro shift knob I modified myself. I disassembled it, took the stitching out, and then re-stitched with gray thread and painted the plastics gray.

What gauge is the red wire?
@TacticalAmputee
@TacticalAmputee 2 года назад
Possibly a dumb question -but I was a bit confused about the relays, do you need one relay per accessory? So say I wanted to add ditch lights and a light bar I would need two relays? If that is the case how would I add 2+ relays to one positive terminal to the battery?
@Yankeefan78471
@Yankeefan78471 2 года назад
You are right! You will want 1 relay per accessory. So each one of those switches is connected to a relay that “relays” power from the battery to the individual accessory. To connect multiple relays to your battery you can just stack ring terminals on top of one another and attach them to the positive post. You can also get special battery terminals that have screw terminals to make it easier on you.

@Yankeefan78471
@Yankeefan78471 2 года назад
The sleeves and terminals used are simple open-barrel spade terminals. You can get them from Corsa, Mouser, DigiKey, etc and should come as a kit (terminal + sleeve). Crimpers are any ratcheting open-barrel crimp tool on Amazon you can find. For the connectors you can find those as a complete wire harness on TacomaBeast (link in the description).

@@shanescott4975 let me know how long it takes you to build a single 24-pin harness (48 crimps + two breakouts).

@@Yankeefan78471 I already have the 24 pin. The 4 pin daisy chains is what I will be making. Those are simple and cheap to make.
