Love this channel. I'm over in the UK. I'm restoring a 1942 Universal Bren Gun Carrier which I imported from Canada. I spent x2yrs restoring the engine, sourcing parts from around the world. When I found it it was just a block & x2 cyl heads. The carburettor was a very rare Governed Zenith. Being around 80 years old it was structurally worn out. When I ran my smoke machine through it there was smoke coming out of just about everywhere! It took quite a while to build the shafts to a serviceable condition & replace all the tiny ball bearings which support each end of the mechanism. Eventually I completed the task which included mechanically disabling the governor which provided instant throttle response. Very happy with the end results. The vehicle restoration continues. Keep up the great content. Regards from the UK

I've just returned to the Hotrod scene after selling my '35 5 Window Ford back in '72. I was very pleased to have discovered the extent of the development in the Hotrod/Vintage parts distribution industry. I was also very fortunate to have had a very bad introduction to two of the dominant Hotrod/Vintage parts dealers which resulted in my completely eliminating them from my 'phone book' - thus, saving myself significant aggravation over the last two and a half years !

I got the Speedway carb 3 years ago and it's working great on my stock 49 8BA.

Good to hear. Like I said, a broken clock is right 2 times a day.

It doesn't matter which one of these "replica" or original carburetors you use...they will ALL percolate with the ethanol fuels and even with non ethanol fuels. I remedied my issue with the proper regulator and a return line. It's eliminated ALL my leaking issues...even on the hottest of days!! Love your stuff man...keep it up!

Just got a 1953 Ford custom line and started following the flat spot. You are very informative and helpful. Thanks

The problems with h the repros from China remind me of the "rebuilt" Rochester B carbs I put on my Chevy Stovebolt. The floats on both were way too low, they both had doubled up airhorn gaskets, one of them had the wrong accelerator pump plunger the other had a float that became loaded.

Great video. My 8BA works quite well with the original Holley 94 I rebuilt, and using the stock vacuum advance system. You are right they are not easy to rebuild. I had to do mine twice and actually remove the passage plugs and run a drill bit through the passages by hand in order to get the accelerator pump working. I intend to switch to a Teapot off of a 52 Merc and eventually a 2140 Holley 4V and an original Offenhauser manifold. As you can tell I am a sucker for punishment. 😉 It has been my experience that the old Strombergs leak badly and are almost impossible to tune correctly but I haven't tried the new ones.

Would a holley 2300 or autolite 2100 be a good alternative? It would require adapters, but would it be too much carb? Only reason I ask is because I have a reman auto lite 2100 from holley on the shelf. At some point I may go to sniper 2300. Thanks for the videos.

Yes, absolutely! You can even do a 4brl 390 cfm carb. And as for the sniper. You have the right idea. I am going with a 2300 on my build.

Never start your stromberg powered car with the hood shut. I run two cars with 2x4 intakes and I always have that one carb that like to stick and puke fuel out. Don’t want to think about what could happen so always play it safe. Also running a efire dizzy and it’s a high quality piece

I do have to say I have been pretty impressed with the E-Fire.

@@THEFLATSPOT I have the 8ba one and being me I dropped the cap and broke it when I was messing around one day. They weren’t available here at the time, but I was able to make a phone call to England and they took care of me. Couldn’t be happier with the service. Gonna get the crab style next for my other one see if it cures some issues I’ve been having.

My Flat 6 has a vintage Fish carb. Works great. Chances are you won't find one though.

Ford never made a flat 6. The Corvair had one, the Porsche still does.

You put Corvair engines in your Fords? Seriously, I worked as a mechanic years ago and we never called flatheads "Flat" engines. Ever. We knew that the VW, Corvair, and Porsche were the only cars that used FLAT engines, and all three of them had overhead valves. Ford 6s all were inline or Straight engines until the 80s, when they came out with a V6, the Essex engine.

@@jamesbosworth4191 Your busting my balls for calling my Flathead 6 a Flat 6? Really? Ok, Mr Overly Technical, my 2 Ford trucks, a 51 F1 and a 52 F3 both have stock Flathead 6 engines made by Ford...jeez some people.

@@ericargo9157 People under a certain age think everything they see in the Internet is gospel, so we OVER that age have to make sure we are putting out correct info, as once they see it, NOBODY, but NOBODY can tell them otherwise.

Stay away from the cheap Amazon Chinese carburetors. I work in the power equipment repair business and customers try to save money by ordering and installing cheap Chinese junk. Nine out of ten times, these things are faulty , leaking gas all over. A new OEM carburetor solves the issue.

Ok so what do you recommend for the 337 found in the 51 Lincoln?
@THEFLATSPOT

The stock carbs on the lincolns where not that bad. I think you can get rebuild kits through Daytona Carburetor in Florida.

Ok. So it takes a downdraft carburetor. Why are y’all stuck with the one style of carb? No intakes that take a normal 2 barrel Holley or Edlebrock or something plentiful and cheap? Junkyards are still full of old carburetors but you’re acting like there a right way and a wrong way to patchwork a jelopy back into the road. I grew up seeing horrors and rat rods and rat rods were all about using what was cheap and available to make something cool, hot rods were about driving way faster than the damn thing and most often the driver could handle.

I plan to do a video about alternative options. I just didn't want this video to run to long. I am use to doing 3 minute TikTok Videos. So long format, I am still finding my groove.
