There is some discussion concerning complex carbs and the time span before strenuous activity. As I understand, complex carbs such as oatmeal should be consumed, primarily, the night before and not the day of. They release energy slowly for 12 hours or more and may create bloat with some as the body works to digest. Three hours prior to activity, I would do a light carb such as a couple pieces of toast with jam. Consequently, I think your fruit choices are great and reasoning sound.
