Last time we met we were on the struggle bus with now clear way how to revive our dying tomato starts. I've come up with a plan that will hopefully help now but certainly help down the road.
I'm starting with a modified Korean Natural Farming recipe by using milk kefir whey, then starting the process of making KNF LAB and finishing off with some swamp juice by fermenting weeds from the garden.

I am an Environmental Specialist and had to feed some nasty bunker oil that over flowed into a tank farm area. I had the soil tested and we made something similar. It had sugar, molasses, peroxide and a few other organic ingredients. I sprayed the soil and tilled it in fertilizing watering it over a 3 month period. It cleaned all of the soil! You are on the right track. I know for a fact that sugar and peroxide cleans hydrocarbon. Just saying

Hey! Idea! Play Classical Music for the tomatoes! Frequency and Music helps make them Hsppy! Another option is copper wire antennas or pyramid frames over them.

I vicariously enjoy how you problem solve, strategize and think out loud, reminds me of me. I add molasses to Cane Sugar when brown sugar is needed. I figure there is a reason they are calling for brown sugar, so let's use it. My latest Ferment was yesterday and it was freshly gathered Garlic Scapes, Carrots, Serranos, Purple Onion, Dill, Black Peppercorns and 2 cloves of Garlic sliced thinly, just for grins, making 2 Quarts. I also, very early in the a.m., collected Mullein Flowers, chopped a large clove of Garlic filling a 1/2 Pint jar and covering with E.V.O.O.. Then the day before there was the Serranos, Carrots, Purple Onions, Pineapple, Garlic and Black Peppercorns an all time favorite of mine. Lastly, a spicy hot Tomato sauce, 64 oz. Ball jar filled with chunks of Tomatoes, Serranos, Salt and Italian seasonings (no water is added just shake) that takes 3-5 days depending on the heat to ferment and is so good. So the counter is full for the moment. Take good care and thank you.

I know you mentioned temperature issues for ferments. I have a cold house and the only thing that works for me for ferments and proofing is a seed starting heat mat. I turned it upside down (words down) and plugged it in the kitchen. It’s always on! Total game changer. I even took the temperature part off and just plugged it into my outlet. Hope this helps you keep your ferments warm!

I did something similar. I took my kitchen compost and put it in a bucket with water (5gal) and let it sit for a week and then watered some plants with it. ❤

If you have white sugar and molasses just add some molasses to the brown sugar and stir really good and there you have brown sugar.

Planting soil is different than starter soil, i would just flood my plants and let them drain, then put a good organic fertilizer on them. Wish you luck.

That does not look like Grazon damage. With Grazon the plants grow normally for a while then begin to curl and wither from the tops and stems. This looks more like glyphosate (Roundup type).

Hi Anna - a suggestion for you to help with the Jun issue. I cover mine with a coffee filter to ferment and spray the coffee filter with white vinegar to help keep out the mold spores. You can also put a splash of vinegar into the Jun to give it a head start on lowering the PH.

I’ve heard of using vinegar but it has its own culture and can get some sort of “parasite” (I’m not sure what it is exactly)

I took kefir and mixed it with some water and covered my squash plants that were getting powdery mildew and looked like something was going to kill the stalks and the next day they look amazing. Doing the same thing today for a one of our tomato plants that keep making weird looking tomatoes like some kind of fungus. I’m also making cream cheese out of kefir so I will use some of the kefir whey to do the same. This stuff is amazing!

I love making what we call weed tea. I do add a bunch of comfrey to it and let it sit for a few weeks in the sun. Any whey I have from cheese making goes to fermenting the chicken feed which OMG they love. I'm on a ridge line and we have clay and rock soil but over a good 20 years of adding in tons and tons of organics our soil is great and we can hand dig down about a foot deep now. Worm tea water works great as well for fertilizing the veggie beds.

@@FermentedHomestead We drive around all throughout the fall collecting bags upon bags of leaves (collected over 300 leaf bags this year) and get 2 or 3 loads of free wood chips every year. The rocks still like to pop up in the gardens so we have small rock buckets in the garden which when planting we toss in the buckets. Where we live in the suburbs all the neighbors have landscapers, and they literally rake or blow out every leaf possible to leave bare dirt around bushes. Then it's chemical fertilizers and dyed colored mulch. Nope not for me. I prefer all natural and healthy soil without any chemicals.

@@FermentedHomestead I am looking forward to seeing how you do the chicken poop tea. I have a pile of chicken manure and pine shavings mixed and they are not breaking down fast enough for me to use in my garden now. I was thinking I could put some in a 5 gal bucket with some water, let it ferment for awhile and then strain the pine shavings out and use it on my garden, but I don't want to burn my plants up, lol. I am looking forward to your expertise 😁

The markings always wear off of my measuring cups. So that makes me remember that 4 tablespoons of a solid is 1/4 cup. Easy when I am mixing up my ferments. Those poor babies! Anna, it looks like they're burnt. Did it get too hot? Too much nitrogen? Weird that several youtuber's I watch have had seedling probs this season. Mine went wild and overgrew my grow tent so fast I had to toss them out and plant them without a proper hardening off. Thankfully, most are doing awesome. I'm way ahead of you this year...But then, gardening is my full time job. Well, cooking and chores and raising the meat and processing and preserving the bounty....lol. You know.

One thing I've seen to battle grazon, is planting corn. Don't eat it, send it all to garbage, but corn is a grass that feeds heavily and it will help absorb grazon out of your beds faster. I saw a man use infected straw mulch on his garden, that's what he did to remove it. It's some nasty stuff,
