Recently I have suffered a complete nervous breakdown & become entrenched in a depressive cycle which has stopped me from being able to work, sleep and eat. After being given only medication & being unable to afford private counselling I have desperately tried to find help online , and your videos & treatment program have given me a hope & perspective which has truly kept me alive in these hard times. I would like to say thank you for your wonderful positive material & to let you know, your help changes & saves lives. Thank you Mark so much

1) 3:02 Flat/Drained Battery 2) 4:52 Boat on the River 3) 6:29 Flying High Thanks for the video! Regarding #2 and the statement that people aren't born depressed. There is evidence that genes can make people predisposed to mental issues. So yes, I wasn't born depressed. But when I was born, my boat's navigation system was directed to send me down the mental/emotional difficulty river.

Genes can make you predisposed to many many things. There is more and more evidence that we can turn on or off those genes even later on in life

Depression can be a bio chemical medical illness as much as diabetes is… Some of us are born with a chemical imbalance and do require medication for the rest of our lives and there’s nothing wrong with that
@KJ-lb4tj
@KJ-lb4tj 3 года назад
@@progressivedragon6664 nothing wrong with taking medicine at all... If that's what you want to do. There is however, absolutely no doubt that the negative effects of taking medication long term are well known. All long term studies are incredibly well documented. Everyone weighs up the long term negative effects against quality of life in the here and now. However, the chemical imbalance theory was completely debunked in the 80's although doctors do continue to band that term around in a bid to give some very simple explanation. No one anywhere has ever found a chemical imbalance that needs treatment. What we do know is that medications change the balance of chemicals. That's a subtle but very different effect. Seratonin for example is made in the gut, not the brain. SSRI's stop the reuptake of seratonin at the receptors. What that does is create a build up at the receptors. That flooding gives you some euphoria or increased happiness for a time. Much like exercise does as we produce n increase in seratonin when we exercise. However, our bodies are not made to hold a flood of seratonin at the receptors and our bodies eventually learn how to dissipate that flood into the body. That is when we begin not to feel the effectiveness of the SSRI (around 3 months for most) and the doctor either ups the dose or changes or adds medication in order to get the same effect. So it is well documented that staying on an SSRI (for example) does very little in the long term in terms of keeping your levels of seratonin high enough for you to feel the difference. You need to keep upping or changing medication. What does happen is that your body recognises the increased seratonin and stops producing it itself to compensate. That's why when you come off an SSRI it can take quite some time for your body to start producing it again and you get all the nasty side effects associated with coming off till your body realises what's going on and starts to produce again.
@KJ-lb4tj

@@progressivedragon6664 it's definitely not like diabetes. Type 1 diabetes - the body does not produce insulin and we give it insulin. Depression - we try to help with creating a build up of the seratonin we're already producing by stopping the reuptake of it at the receptors. The body is already making seratonin, but it's known that exercise for example increases the instant production and gives an increase in feeling good. So the theory with SSRI's is that we stop the reuptake of seratonin to create a flood of it at the receptor and create an increase to create feeling better for a time. Very different action to the way diabetes medication works or the cause of diabetes. Our bodies have not stopped producing seratonin, unlike in type 1 diabetes where our body just doesn't make insulin. Type 2 diabetes can be cured by diet. In that, when insulin is given we are actually giving the body more insulin than the body needs, because we are putting in my more foods that turn into sugars than the body can cope with and the insulin in the body is no longer able to break it down - insulin resistant. Again, a very different cause and very different effect that the drugs have. All drugs do not work in the same way or have the same effect on the body. Psychiatric medications work to cause a chemical imbalance that can be beneficial and can also have a lot of side effects.

@@progressivedragon6664 there is no proof. If it is really "chemical imbalance" why can't you measure it and why prescribed drugs have to be taken for years without any change. Pharmacy industry made you belive it is fizical thing.

WRT the Flat Battery explanation, I want to share that in my experience, dreaming (REM) was at an all time low during years of Major Depression. It was only once on medication that biochemical (5-HT) levels allowed me to experience dreaming. It was a whole experience and research does support this. Sharing this is not to contradict but to add to the discussion (with respect).

I agree, I think he does a disservice in minimizing that major depressive disorder can come out of nowhere due to a chemical in balance. I’m worried that his message will deter people who really do need life-saving medication away from it

Portia Nelson has a wonderful poem that also creates the metaphor of walking down the street and there is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I encourage all who suffer from this disease to search her Autobiography in Five Short Chapters, and look for immediate relief.

I did find it useful, and was waiting to find out how you knock it on the head as Angela did. It is I.B.S. that keeps me down and out. How do you ever get a metaphor for diarrhea and cramping so bad you just stay home? I look great on tests and paper but feel very flat as you say. I am apathetic about well, everything.

Why is everyone riding the “depression is not a chemical imbalance” wave? There’s an article published with evidence that depression isn’t caused by lack of serotonin. But isn’t it clear that it definitely plays a role simply by the fact that SSRIs work for many people?

It seems so wildly impossible to imagine that the people still willfully in a comatose state after a year of this insanity... will ever wake up. I don't know what to think any more... Sometimes I'm certain it's all a mass awakening happening at turtle-speed, and all is perfect; divine timing. Other times... watching zombies in masks, salivating with excitement over the mark of the beast... that's when I lose my ability to hold on to hope... (I also heard David icke speak in an interview about the coming of 6g and 7g! How will humanity survive that?)

I agree. There is most definitely a biological cause. In the same way the diabetes type one is genetic and a medical illness, that requires medication/insulin, for the rest of someone’s life. In some cases, people need antidepressants for the rest of their life and there is nothing wrong with that. I hate it when Practitioners ignore the fact that the brain is a part of the body!
