Speaking of magic items, maybe a good video would be about best items fitting specific classes? and im talking here about something that player just always want like just a normal +3 weapon, not neccessarry a pocket tower that can squish people around, as you know, Player may not want to squish enemies during every single encoutner, unlike Using their bow. Good example of item in such "best picked items for class" would be a good old Rod of the Pact Keeper, which not only functions like +1/2/3 weapon for Spells warlock casts, but also once per day can regain a spell slot. Ofc this is just a video idea proposition as i know you do ask quite often about "give more ideas in comments"
I'm amazed you didn't pick the Sentinel Shield under the Uncommon items. Advantage on initiative AND perception is amazing; probably the two most important rolls in the game.
Someone missed out on the Robe of infinite wealth and doors (Robe of Useful items) The Robe, in both DMG annd Xanathar's, costs less than the cash patches will give you on average rolls SO bulk buying them is a positive money flow, and gives you a massive supply of consumable 'problem solvers'
My favorite use of it is to combine it with wish. Have your lvl 20 abjuration wizard use wish to cast a 5th level version of armor of agathys into the ring before a longrest. Then, before a combat encounter, drink any potion of giant strength, use Tenser's Transformation and be an untouchable wrecking ball. And that's just one use of the combo.
Don't forget... flour is highly flamable. It doesn't do a lot of damage, but if you are looking to set a place on fire (as a distraction or to sow chaos), a bag of flour and a source of fire is AWESOME. My party used it to great effect during a heist in the golden key book.
I wonder if the Wish spell granted each month by the Vecna items would let you wish to use them without the drawbacks... Switch your alignment back, not die if you lose them, etc., one removed a month.
i dont think the torch light and dark vision stack like stated at 2:37:38 . If dark vision allows you to see to 60 feet, using a torch you would see the normal vision given by light for 20 feet, then then dim light provided by the torch would an additional 20 feet of normal vision. Beyond that would be dim light due to dark vision for another 20 feet for a total of 60feet not 100.
I gave my party a necklace of fireball, then i did a random puzzle door generator. What came up was character has to put there blood on the door and the door will make a clone of the people that placed there blood, the one party member that touched it was wereing the necklace 😅, so i got to use it against them
Way back in the day, around 1986, in Memphis, TN, there was a roleplaying Con. Most of us had never met before, but there was this one guy his character's name was Dave, we couldn't tell if he was roleplaying Dave as being high, or if he was high. Our task was to retrieve the Eye and Hand of Veccna from the BBEG. So, fight our way through we did, stopping only to yell, "DUDE" at Dave about twenty times, as he kept doing things that screwed the party over, or was just the dumbest thing that could have been done at the time. By the time we made it to the throne room, we were all sure he was the BBEG in disguise; turns out he wasn't. We fight for about an hour killing the BBEG and his Abishai army. We find Dave hunched over the BBEG's body having already placed the eye in his bloody socket, as the hand was bonding to the bloody stump of his wrist. Dave stood at the table laughing like a mad man, then declared, "I WISH FOR THE 'OTHER' EYE AND HAND OF VECCNA!" The table went silent. The Dungeon Master rose from his seat shaking his head, then pointed at Dave, as if casting a finger of death spell, then he said in a sibilant rasp, "Then you come get them. You dumb son of a B1tch." . . . . We must have laughed for at least two hours.
The real power of simmilacrum wish is that it has no saving throw, if you can get within touch range of a BBEG then you can clone them and have it on your side
Your voice is amazing! I listened to one of your 4 hour video last night to fall asleep and it got a Nat 20 on the sleep spell. I have also listed to you all day and unlike podcasts and such I can still do stuff while doing stuff! Thank you so much for making these!
The cloak of many fashions is borderline game breaking, “it’s style is that it raps around people’s neck until they suffocate”. It’s style is having a bunch of keys on it”.
my dnd character is covered in like 57 spell wrought tattoos. like 5 shields , 5 healing words, 5 absorb elements, 5 protections from evil, 5 magic missiles, 5 feather falls, 5 heroism, 5 bless, 5 find familiar spells (as my familiars are all stupid buffed from fuckign around with a a chiwanga and are rocking like 70hp and have 23 strenghtand are Huge monsters. I can summon a giant faeirie dragon. my pixies will murder parties). 5 sheild of faith 2 sanctuary. my guys look like they're in MS-13
It only counts if it's an actual campaign, not if you just make up an insanely overpowered character in your head 😊 But at least you stopped your imagination at 57
Moontouched sword is also great for low-level battle smith artificers because it counts as magic they can use their intelligence. Saving them an infusion (not needing to infuse their weapon)
That inuon stone is even better with classes that have abilities that key off proficiency. Psi dice? Giant's might, runic shield, infectious fury, bolster magic, and many more features key off proficiency bonus.
1:14:42 You can let them choose such items but pretty powerful/high tier people would want such a legendary item and would eventually catch wind of such items, the most obvious first.
Honestly Gauntlets of Ogre Power should get a rank up because of it's combo with one of the Belts of Giants Strength and The Dwarven Hammer magic item.
....no. Sure one can argue about it for several reasons, but yours is probably the stupidest argument in all of history. A low level magic item should rank up because of a combo with TWO OTHER HIGHER TIER MAGICAL ITEMS? THAT YOU AREN'T GUARANTEED TO EVEN SEE IF YOU PLAY TO LVL 20? You do realize the DM isn't forced to give out any items, other than arguably healing potions maybe. Your whole reason crumbles just from a DM deciding no belt, or no dwarves thrower. And if a DM doesn't do that then it's safe to assume he planned to give it to the player anyway since it's impossible for the DM to be "surprised" by the party finding a magic item. Sorry for the long rant, but the logic behind your comment was just so backward and braindead it just made me reel IRL. If there was no thought behind it then fine, but if you thought for even a second before writing this comment, then please reevaluate your entire process of thinking, because there's something seriously rotten about it.
Please.. please.. please stop saying "initiation". It's initiative. Completely different meanings. Also "hallow" and "hollow" aren't the same word. Hal. Hallow. Not hollow. Otherwise great video
2:58:19 I love shield. One time I had a fighter wizard multi class and I had shield AT-WILL. When I cast shield I had an effective AC of 30. I didn’t get hit a SINGLE time in that pvp 😂😂😂
flying is not as op as people like to think. when my players get flying i start building ways to handle it into the game. player is flying high in the air? oh no, theyve been hit with the Earthbind spell. at that point they are vulnerable to a lot of other attacks. or if they are fighting in anything but wide open fields then wow. look. 10ft high ceiling. and wow enemies can look up and attack. flying is not op at all. if you have a dm worth their salt who actually uses spell casters smartly and changes up the absolutely horrendous base 5e spell lists they almost all have.
on the moon touched sword not being on the common item list it makes sense as personally i think its a terrible item. +1 weapons aint supposed to be rare so you could get a magic weapon pretty easy unless your dm is just against fun. i always start giving out +1 weapons around level 3 or so. which is before i start hitting the party with things that resist nonmagical weapons. when i throw resistances like that at a party its for higher level encounters and often times the creatures are just resistant to weapons as a whole. magical, silver, regular, adamantium. it dont matter. half damage.
ah yes Staff of the Woodlands. Awaken is useless on it and Awaken in general is such a bad 5th level spell. ah yes id like to use my action and a 5th level spell slot to awaken this tree that basically is at most a CR1/2 creature! yah. action economy goes up for the party sure. for like one or two rounds before the awakened thing is just killed by the enemies. there is a reason Druids Wildshape outside moon druid is useless in combat after level 6 or so. beasts have enough hp to survive 1 maybe 2 rounds of combat at most and deal very little damage.
