I am recording a video today with Dr. Jordan Feigenbaum about LOSING WEIGHT and gaining strength. Something I have not made a video about. If you have any specific questions for us please post them below.
Lets assume I am doing 4 day split TM. If I am losing weight and getting stronger, but eventually not feel recovered for my next workout, would it be smart to give myself an extra day off? Should I move rest of the routine accordingly(taking into the account the rest day) or just keep it as it is?
I've lost about 20lbs in about 3 months with just doing 5x5 and dieting somewhat correctly, consistently hitting my protein goal and then filling the rest with good carbs and fats. I havent hit any brick walls with my lifts as of yet. My question for you guys is how do i know that my body is burning the fat(or carbs) off and not say burning muscle tissue to fuel me. Do I just trust the process?
more business videos please. The fact that there are literally no powerlifting/strongman/oly gyms in my country really grinds my gears into doing something about it
same dude, in my country especially in my town, there just one gym related powerlifting/strongman/oly workout but expensive af, i really want to open this kind of gym here
I live in Austria and all good gyms are concentrated in Vienna, so I will move there as soon as I start my studies. I bought all the strongman stuff I needed and build up my own small gym, which is only a room but it is enough. I would love to open up a gym like Alan's myself, but I don't know if my country is ready for this ..
I've switched up recently from training for hypertrophy to training for strength. been watching a tonne of Alan and Brian Alsruhe. currently ruining my wives garden with old tyres and kegs 😂
ryan rogers yeah that is true. I'm trying to meet more people enthusiastic about strongman and just generally interested in going outside. if everyone that's interested gets involved I'm hoping it will grow organically into something more organised
Truly inspiration. Really love how you turned a not so positive situation into a positive one, like when only one person shows up for a group class and instead of drowning in disappointment, you focused on that one client.
these videos keep me motivated to push through the hard times at my gym. thanks Alan, one day I'm going to make it out there and check out your gym in person.
my biz is in a bit of a rut and this vid helped me re-orientate myself, even though im not in the gym business most of the things are applicable. thank you.
As a gym owner I completely agree. I've opened my gym just a few months ago,and its going great. I specialised in personal coaching because where I live it works. The only thing I can't do at the moment is give free stuff, but that will happen soon. Great advice Alan!
Alan, I came across your channel because I have been working out since my days back in the Corps. Back then I was into a mix of bodybuilding and strength training. Then I met my new roommate lol when he checked in and he was a power lifter and our two man room was a mini gym and he quickly got me away from the bodybuilding and into powerlifting... he was a huge fan of the KAZ. Who at the time was the #1 Strongman competitor. Whom many years later I was fortunate enough to meet in his gym in Auburn Alabama. I retired many many years ago from the Corps. Now at my age I just work out to stay in shape. But coming across your channel, seeing the accomplishments in the Corps and with your gym is and your professionalism is a lot of fun to watch. Semper Fi Marine and continue to go forth and make great things happen. But of course make sure you do it UNTAAAAAAMMMMED.
As with most of Allen's content (and much of the other content I enjoy) these are great lessons/principles even you have no intention of ever opening a gym. Nice video!
How did u torn your rotator cuff? and do u know its torn? I can help you with some tips cuz I had mine torn two years ago and thankfully back to normal now without any surgery or anything.
Absolutely excellent advice. Thank you for making this video, Alan. It has been a dream of mine (and my Fiancee's) to open and run a powerlifting gym. I'll keep these things in mind and start small, and build a quality facility slowly.
thanks man ive been a youtuber for 8 years and i think im gonna finally take a jump into opeining a gym for me and my clients to train at! best of luck to all of you guys
this is a really good insight to starting a gym. ive just started my own gym which is mainly powerlifting with the odd rugby player ( im from wales uk) and i do have the odd strongman equipment from running my own iawa/usawa comps. you get dirty by just standing in my gym lol. so see how far you have come gives me incurragment but there again i dont wont a massive gym nor a commercial gym i just want a gym that gives back to the lifters. anyway love you vids they better than silent mike and mark bell anyday lol believe to achieve...

Hi, Alan i have become a fan of you by watching your video (how to start your own GYM)..i have watched many motivational video and listened to many but nobody has ever touched me the way you do. Thanks for simplifying and making thing clear. If my dream to open a gym come true then i am surely going HANG a photo of you on my wall..Thanks again Alan ...for me you have earned immortality
Hey Alan fellow camp David alumni here. I was wondering if you had any tips on finding cheap garage gym equipment so I can start my own. Also what might be some of the legal things I should do to protect myself once I start taking clients
I'm starting up my bootcamp now, while still teaching classes in the gym. I had the exact same experience as you discussed when starting my gym classes and only 1 person would show up. Your ego takes a hit, but you're absolutely right, gotta turn it around and make an awesome 1-1 session with that person who showed! This video contained some real solid advice brother, after seeing a few of your vids i'm now subbed!
I run a boot camp\functional fitness camp at my house four days a week. People want more classes as they are seeing results. I am nervous about being sued if someone was hurt. What kind of policy do you carry for that?
I'm new to the strength and powerlifting community. Currently on a program to lose weight and learn the sport of powerlifting. I'm in love with where it's brought me physically and mentally, and I wanna share it with people. I've seen your other videos and it's inspired me to do more with my life. I wanna open a powerlifting style gym here in the bay area. Of course, I still have a lot to learn and need to understand everything I'm getting into. My own fitness journey, how to run a business, learn more about the sport, nutrition, etc. So I wanna take time everyday for an entire year before I start executing business moves. Just to prepare, get all the right tips etc. I'm starting by inviting locals and friends to workout with me in my home gym for free. All while I still keep the current job and gain a following with my current setup. Still not sure if I'm moving in the right direction, but I sure am hella amped. Just wanna say, you've given me a new motivation to work even fucking harder. Maybe I'll drive up one day and possibly meet you and your team. Nonetheless, thank you for being a huge influence to the new community I'm diving into.
I like how you get right to the fucking point about opening a gym. Great information, im going to open my own training center as well.I have a question is it to much to offer both strength and calisthenics training?
3:41 exactly why I want to open a local gym. The bigger gyms are way to nice and shiny, No free weights, cold from the A/C. And some even give out free pizza on certain days 👎🏻. Great video bud.
These tips are applicable for ANY business owner. I'm a freelance writer and editor, with no physical storefront, and these all apply to me. Thankfully, I did emphasize free, instructional content from the beginning. But I did the same thing about delaying choosing a niche. My first business card said "copy editing, substantive editing, proofreading, freelance writing, content marketing, social media." Live and learn. :)
Just about to open my gym in about a month. Some of the things I learned so far on this journey is being a personal trainer is perfect for looking at potential investors. Found 4 of my investors through my clients.
I wanna start my own gym too. In tired of these 7-4 shifts & shitty pay. Fitness has always been my outlet from life's harsh reality. My dream now is to own a gym & have people come to my gym & express themselves like I do.
Dude this is a great video, thanks for sharing!! My buddy and I are starting a fight academy and this was just what I needed to hear. You've given me a lot a great ideas, thank you! Please hit me up if you ever visit Australia :)
love the biz content im currently training people out of a dirt floor pole barn behind my sisters house no overhead which is nice i can just buy more equipment with any money i make.
You deserve every bit of it. I believed you were honest, but once you showed that video of you hosting a strongman competition and going through all the trouble to have a worth experience and not having much money left says so much about you!
Lester Faapaiaga powerlifters only do bench, squat, and deadlift however strongman do various amounts of things such as logpress, kegtoss, atlas stone, viking press, farmers walks, tire flips and such
good video alan.Even I am also opening 500 sq ft garage gym in my city to offer muscle building/weight loss training and have decided to offer 2 weeks free personal training to all potential clients.
