In this video, we're taking a look at using spacing, size and how they affect your UI designs. We're going to go over establishing information and visual hierarchy, padding, contrast to make better UIs. I will be introducing 3-4 levels of spacing + size utilization to illustrate my points and show how these factors affect the appeal, understability and usability of your designs.
How to use padding, spacing and size to design better user interfaces and user experiences (explanation and design theory)

That was such a helpful content! Thanks a lot. I would really appreciate it if you can show us how you decide on the size of UI elements such as icon, card, slider, logo, input fields, search bar, font size when you're designing a hero page for mobile and desktop for instance? Do you reference popular design systems for the size and spacing? I'm never sure how big or small I should make UI elements such as navigation, status bar, icon, search bar etc. I just try to reference other designs but I'm not sure if that's the way.

Thank you! And thanks for the tip. That is something I used to struggle with as well. Usually this depends on the device and screen size. For example, you can never go wrong with using 16pt as the base reference for your text / font size and then building up from there. Also when designing websites, it's a good idea to constrain everything to approx 1200-1300 px/pt to be compatible with the vast majority of PCs. But I'm going to think about how I can turn these tips into a full video as that's something I see a lot of people struggle with. Thanks:) Mavi

@@mavidesign Thank you soooo much. I've watched and liked all your videos because they are extremely helpful. UI comes down to spacing and aligning different UI elements but until we develop an eye for design after many years of experience, it's not so easy to determine whether my icon is too big or small, or search bar is too big and so on. Perhaps you can just show how you do when you design for we learn best while watching other people design (desktop and mobile). Thanks always for your time and useful content that helps billions of people all around the world.
