How to improve the model through quality ropes. You spent a lot of time building a model, isn't it worth buying quality ropes or a ropewalk for making them?!
*****************
Як покращити модель за допомогою якісних мотузок. Ви стільки часу витратили на будівництво моделі, то хіба ж вона не варта того щоб придбати якісні канати чи зробити тросомот для їх виготовлення?!

Stunning. The machine is simple but efficient and I really like the high quality of your videos so that we can follow how you build the small details. Thank you very much! This is because such ropes are produced very slowly. Manufacturers do not want to waste time on quality and prefer quantity... I can make 5 to 10 coils in a day, depending on the diameter. If I'm doing cables, 2-3 a day max. That's why I don't even try to make them for sale, because it would kill my own modeling...

It stands to reason that if you use a scale rope making machine you will end up with scale rope. It's not really "amazing" if you have any knowledge of full scale rope making, but it is a VERY high level of attention to detail in model ship building.

@@OlhaBatchvarov Good morning, Olha, Thank you very much for your answer. Yes, that's also my point of view. There are no company with the exception from the Kick company. But this ropewalk doesn’t look very trusting. So is it possible to buy such a ropewalk, as you designed, developed and constructed. That would be very awesome. By the way, my two project’s are at first a half-opened “Bounty” by Artisan and at second a very awesome jolly-boat, called “Pirat”, which me and my wife sails as an original jolly- boat. It is 5 meters long, 10 square meters sail area with two sails- fog and main sail. It’s a great hobby too, and we have so much fun crossing the lakes. And for the bigger turns we have a little 22 feet yacht also with Bermuda rigging with Genua sail and main sail and 32 am, two cabins. It’s a perfect little boat, easy to sail and brilliant for holiday trips in the Baltic Sea. So now you see, with the ship modeling I carry the hobby from the lake to my living room🤣 Kindly greetings Pascal

Hello! These are completely different types of threads. E121 are threads for overlocks, they have no texture, that is, they are not twisted at all, and you can use them to twist ropes both to the right and cables to the left...

Можна купити подібну. Цю я зробила сама. Точніше проект і ідея але я знайшла майстра який працює з алюмінієм і розуміє як зібрати до купи двигун і шестерні. (Бо в мене з електрикою біда))))

Olha, when you built your ropewalk, how did you determine how "long" it needed to be in order to make ropes long enough for your models? Did you simply go by experience of building models for years and therefore knew how long the longest single "rope" for a section of rigging would need to be?
@OlhaBatchvarov
@OlhaBatchvarov 2 года назад
I was just looking for a place where I could set up my ropewalk. In Kyiv, I had 6 m (almost 20 ft) between the engines (with a high ceiling, so it was enough for the counterweight system). But now I have only 4.3 m (14 ft) between the engines, because the workshop has a very low ceiling - only 1.8 m and does not fit the counterweight system for longer ropes)))

Hi , I appreciate your work very much , you are a wonderful modeler but i have a very small question ! why do you use synthetic fibers as polyethylene instead of natural as cotton , linen or hemp witch is more appropriate to the accuracy of the historical build ? thank you very much !!
@OlhaBatchvarov
@OlhaBatchvarov 2 года назад
Thank you! I prefer imitation from synthetics then using historically the same materials - on a scale they look rough, hairy and react to changes in humidity. Also, they all already have a texture and only cables can be twisted from them. Because if you twist from left to right, the threads are first untwisted and then twisted again in the other direction, which makes them with a stretching effect. This is what I don't like most about working with them! Also, the rigging of them can sag or stretch so that even the mast is deformed. I had this problem on two models, but when I tried synthetics, it was a salvation. You don't even need to burn off the hair on the threads - you can put it on the model directly from the ropewalk! So I will not return to natural threads!

Hello! Do you apply some kind of treatment to the rope, for example bee wax? Thanks and best regards!
@OlhaBatchvarov
@OlhaBatchvarov Год назад
Definitely not wax - all the dust will be yours and you will not be able to glue these ropes! It is better to use a lighter to remove lint... I use polyester threads so they are lint free and require no finishing! They can also be colored and tinted with bitumen or tar...

I'm actually surprised nobody manufactures proper up-to-scale ropes for model ships. Today, it seems you can get every little thing for your modelling needs, from white-metal castings to fake grass. Why not this?
@OlhaBatchvarov
@OlhaBatchvarov 2 года назад
Oh, you can find them without problems, but they cost 6-8 $ per coil. For example on the sites: syrenshipmodelcompany(dot)com or ropesofscale(dot)com. That's why I decided to build my own ropewalk...
@ammarmar3628
@ammarmar3628 2 года назад
@@OlhaBatchvarov Right. And that's per-meter prices. I guess that a large model needs dozens of meters. Not to mention that shipping is probably costly and takes forever. Still, I'm impressed you took all the time to actually study how ropes are made and then made the effort to put the knowledge to practical use. One thing got me thinking - why does the rope twist differ between standing rigging and running rigging? (left vs right) Does it have any practical use on the real ship? Or is it just a gimmick?
