Proceeds to make a long loud intro/outro, starts talking about what is a car bumper, why would you want to fix this, how soldering iron works.... Oh hey, 20minutes!
Wow, I can hear you since there's no stupid music for my hearing loss in the conversational range to compete with. Thank you, and got that everyone else that makes videos?????
Super damn HELPFUL INFO, I see this issue daily and was unaware of a way to repair that wasn't buck-ugly, and wouldn't make your vehicle look like Frankenstein, thanks a million, brother🔥👍 And your video was done perfectly, quick and to the point, and no annoying music, great job...!!! SUBSCRIBED...!!!
Great work! And not ripping off the customer, which sadly is all too common these days. (Only goid thing is that more and more people use google, so ratings are an important information source. Here around 2 garages had to close because they ripped of customers, the people left ratings & comments and they had significantly less customers. A fate that people like you don't have to waste a single thought on)
Thank you. Very helpful and to the point. Plastic welding is an amazingly helpful technique to know. I repaired my car's radiator tank a while ago with plastic welding and it is very effective.
I presume that is polyproylene (PP) plastic? I repaired a used Pelican case with this technique. Previous owner drilled through the case to fix internal compartiments. I welded them back up with PP sticks. Was reluctant to do so, but it worked out really well, and easy to do. Also the renew trick to slightly heat the unpainted surface worked like magic. Looks like it’s 2y old again instead of “fell off a cliff” condition 😂. I didn’t quite finish & work the welds so extensively like you did, but it is waterproof again and only if you know, you’ll spot the filled holes. Incredible material. So strong. So gratifying to work on. Thx for this video! Gives me ideas for the future.
Something that I probably will never use but your video was great to watch. Very informative and well presented. I subscribed just to see what other tips you had that might be useful in the future. Good job.👍👍👍👍
yea, it is refreshing to see someone actually do a good job these days. it is probably because most people would charge 10x as much to just replace the panel. less labor + more money = typical shop
@@AUTOBODYTECHit might not mix well with some plastics and is quite spongy. If exposed to sun will brittle quickly unless you use uv one. Quite cheap solution that might work for most stuff for long enough. Have you tried soda and super glue? Might be way quicker copy paste the mounting. Should net with lot less sanding and more stiff
@markfisher7962 All plastic parts should have a stamping on them. Just need to match the plastic ABS plastic is far too stiff and brittle for bumper covers.
@spencereagle1118 No, these are polypropylene(PP) ribbons Depending on the type of plastic material you are welding to, some plastic zip ties may work as long as they match
I live in the States and I’m trying to order stuff through your affiliate links but it takes me to Amazon Canada and I can’t make purchases for you to get credited. What’s the work around?
This is a good idea if only a Tap is broken on the bumper. Ive seen this done on some where the bumper is cracked a scratched. Rather just get another.
Doesnt look like it will have any strength. The fusion joint between original plastic and the new stuff is always weaker than solid plastic. Why not embed some metal mesh or steel wool into it like other plastic welders do?
Burning plastic emits carbon monoxide and cyanide gasses, FYI. Mention what kind of respiratory protection you're using, and emphasize that without lung protection, this kind of repair technique is very hazardous.
What are the dangers exactly that you imply? I suspect you are in the right area of hazardous chemicals being emitted with burning plastic, would like more specifics since you brought it up. Can you recommend safety gear? Are you knowledgeable & experienced or just casually bringing this up?
@chipm2544 I used to work in plastics assembly, using heat benders etc. The fumes coming off heated plastic are pure filth. That's a scientific term by the way.
@@montestu5502 I am glad you replied. I'm not going to watch the video again. But I do recall smoke being emitted by the melting plastic. That smoke is toxic fumes so whoever practices this technique should wear personal protective equipment. You and others disagree and I'm at a loss for why.
In Canada, I bet that bumper cover is $2,000 or more. Add paint cost, thats $2,500 + and blending if the surrounding area is faded. Approaching $4,000 depending on prep work and quality of materials. The repair in this video is absolutely worth it. Maybe not if its an el-cheepo aftermarket bumper and a rattlecan spray job. But you will kick yourself trying to fit crappy aftermarket panels. Stay gold.
@@dnlmachine4287 I had to replace my front bumper 2 years ago. New bumper painted by the shop : 600$ (bumper + paintjob. I installed the bumper myself. Saved 1 or 2 hours for the labor time to remove and install the new bumper. Today, maybe it could cost 1000$, not 5000$.
😂😂 my way is quicker, requiers fewer tools, and is stronger than the original. It doesn't look as good with the part removed, but looks the same when installed. i doubt that way is as strong as oem, because you did not reinforce it.
@@kingnull2697 grind for clearance then epoxy on a piece of steel sheet metal (100sq cm or bigger) that has been bent & shaped at a corner to replace that latch. or, on one car I had to remove those to clear the tires, so I replaced them with a locating stud, two spools, and an o-ring (per side), but that didn't look OEM!
