You're trying to stop the anxiety feelings, be it through numbing the sensation of anxiety, maybe through alcohol or food, which temporally works till the alcohol ware off and now you are feeling 10 x worse…… Alcohol has an effect on brain chemistry - it can induce panic because of its effects on GABA, a chemical in the brain that normally has a relaxing effect. Small amounts of alcohol can stimulate GABA and cause feelings of relaxation, but heavy drinking can deplete GABA, causing increased tension and feelings of panic. You are trying to push the sensation of anxiety away - this is actually the worst thing you can do as the very act of resistance is the fuel that makes the sensations intensify…. Like pouring petrol on a fire. You must learn to accept and rest into the sensation for it to subside. Talking about problems over and over again that trigger your anxiety sensations in the first place. This happens because your mind does not know the difference between reality and thought.
