I see many poker players making huge blunders when they decide to play suited connectors, watch this poker tutorial video to make sure you are not making the same mistakes that everyone else does!
Suited connectors can be extremely profitable if you play them right! In this poker video Jonathan will discuss 3 big mistakes that many players make with them.
1. They call too often preflop
2. They play draws too aggressively on the flop
3. They fail to bluff off on the river when they miss (in the right spot!)
Most people call too often preflop with their suited connectors. You can call wide from the late positions but not in the early positions.
Many players play their draws too aggressively on the flop. You should always be aware of which player has the range & nut advantage. When you are out of position you should raise more often with draws but still not every time when you lack the range and nut advantage. You should be less inclined to raise with high equity draws that must fold when facing an all-in. You want to raise junkier draws that are fine to fold when facing too much heat! You should also raise less often when facing larger bets.
Too many players fail to bluff on the river when they miss with their draws. There are some runouts where some hands will bluff on ANY river some portion of the time. A lot of people chicken out from firing that 3rd barrell, don't be a chicken!

Look these are the poker commandments adhere to them and the game plays itself #1 Don't go broke in an unraised pot #2 Go all in with a draw but do not call all in with one #3 Money flows clockwise #4 Bet your big hands don't wait for someone to do it for you #4 Never bluff with complete air, always always always have outs #5 Never overplay KJ #6 Do not overplay AQ #7 DONT fold kings preflop #8 in a tournament if it's folded to you on the button steal the blinds #9 in a cash game be patient and pick your spots but in a tournament be savage and put them to the test #10 be fearless always

Great content, but I'd love to see the same subject addressed for live games, 100-150 BBs deep, and then again for deep stack live games: 300+BBs deep. In Austin we often play a match-the-stack $1/$2 game where it is common that several of us will have $2000 in front of us. Admittedly, this is really a $1/$2/$5 game most of the time, with occasionally more straddles, but that still makes it a 400 BB game. My own adjustments for 300+ BB game is that I no longer choose between calling and raising preflop based on the strength of my hand. Obviously, the strength determines whether or not I play at all, but once I've decided whether or not to play, I will raise vs. call my whole range based purely on position and squeezing. Is this crazy? I have found myself 3-bet-folding on occasion, which is pretty painful. OTOH, I have 4-bet with 87s and hit a flop of 965 and absolutely crushed the two pair who was sure I could have an overpair at best.

Contradictory advice about what hits the big blinds range on a 9 8 4 flop or any low flop. According to Matt Affkeck the BB is so wide that he has tonnes of air and we should bet big but bet less often
@davehimlin2374
@davehimlin2374 7 месяцев назад
#1 most important concept to understand - You are only starting with 2 out of 7 cards, which is only 28% of your total hand. So what does this mean ? It means there is ALOT of luck involved, since a player at anytime, can bet their whole stack, preflop.

The wider the range of the UTG player, the more i am inclined to fold the suited connectors. I can make a really strong hand with suited connnectors, but i won't get paid if villain hits 3rd pair, while i will get called when he has an overpair.
@zihokim1751
@zihokim1751 8 месяцев назад
i think this is true, but is not as important in terms of ev since suited connectors will perform even better against their wider range.
@brilliantbeaches5389
@brilliantbeaches5389 8 месяцев назад
@@zihokim1751 There are so many factors. If we speak of this exact situation, playing a tournament and not knowing your opponent, since it's a big tournament with many unknown players, it's probably better to call against a wider range. If i play a long cash game session and have a lot of reads on my opponents, know how they play their strong hands on the flop, turn and river my approach can vary.

Jonathan am I just checking the flop 100% of the time as the pre flop raiser if I totally miss the flop and it’s multi way ???
@Foolish188
@Foolish188 8 месяцев назад
Checking multiway when you completely whiff? Pretty good idea, remember the pot will bloated and your cbet would be pretty large. If the flo p has an A or K or AK then you have the range advantage and can bluff, but don't if you have call stations in position to you.

Sitting between 2 players with 89d and QJd is showing on the turn. Button bets $30 other guy calls I fold thinking one of them has better draw then me. Rivers the 10d and my heart sinks as I realize I folded the straight flush. Worst part is dude goes all in and other dude calls. Thoughts? I think $30 was pot sized bet. Other players had Ace high flush and 3 of a kind

For those of playing low buy in tables (1/3) I've found suited connectors are fantastic from the LJ and later positions especially, specifically because suited connectors LOVE multiway pots. Don't know about you all, but on my local 1/3 tables, having 3-4 players seeing the flop is the most common scenario, and 5-6 is not all that unusual. It's kind of crazy, but... from the LJ and later, you're likely to be last or 2nd to last to act, and if you hit a draw, you can play it down pretty passively and see amazing pot odds the entire way. If it folds around to you on the flop, bet SMALL (1/4-1/3 pot), and watch as you get multiple callers, then if you hit, go cold, and watch the bluffs come in. If you don't hit, just walk away cheap knowing you can walk away cheap quite a few times for the large pots you'll win when you do hit.

QJ suited calls off against a shove on 9s 8h 3d - are we sure about that? Calling off with only a gutshot and two overs with a hopeful backdoor flush draw seems extremely punty.

But also suited connectors are the best way to trap utg raise, there mostly Ak, AQ, Aj s right big cards what if the flop comes all shitty cards, they c bet, u call with your suited connectors, now on turn they check because they know they havent hit, snd you raise big on the turn, mostly they will fold thekr Aks and AQs

I’m a little confused on how in this video we are less aggressive with open ended straight draws, but in the checkraise video we are playing very aggressive even with runner runner straights and flushes.
@royalflush8173
@royalflush8173 8 месяцев назад
Because it's all talk you can Crack aces with suited connectors but some one could easily have a higher flush some opens 3x you don't know if he has pocket queens or AK suited. You hit spade flush and jams he calls and shows you nuts. There is no right or wrong way
@jamez470
@jamez470 8 месяцев назад
@@royalflush8173 so basically check raising is mainly done when you have nut advantage if you hit?
@brilliantbeaches5389
@brilliantbeaches5389 8 месяцев назад
@@jamez470 Yes, exactly. Don't check raise if you don't have nut advantage. I mean it's all a numbers game. Check raise with open enders 10% of the time, very rarely. Then your image is believable. If it's a dry board (no flush draws) and you get called, then you're probably effed. But sometimes you still have to bluff the river as well. You have to be balanced.
@brilliantbeaches5389
@brilliantbeaches5389 8 месяцев назад
@@jamez470 And obviously there is a difference if you have a straight draw with 2 overcards or 2 undercards. If you hit top pair on the river often enough it wins you the hand.

Hey Jonathan! why would we bluff the river with busted draws most of the time when raising the LJ and getting called from the BB? dont we want him to have these draws? its actually bad for us to have busted draws and bluff. cause its more likely that he has a made hand. am i missing something?
