By the Time this video airs I will be almost 2 weeks Post Op from getting my Achilles Surgery done and on the mend.
I picked up this Char-Broil Electric Smoker from Menards when I was in Ohio at my buddy CJ's recommendation and we couldn't be happier with it.
Here is just a quick rundown on the smoker and me doing my 5th Rack of Ribs since we've gotten this thing.
If you have any questions leave em in the comments and I will do my best to answer them.
After about 10 smokes including Ribs, Pork Chops, Whole Chicken Wings, Chicken Drumsticks and a couple of Pork Butts all I can tell you is we are really loving this simple smoker.
Thanks for watching........Peace !

Love this video Don. I'm super happy I convinced you to buy one of these. I knew it would take some first hand usage and tasting here to appreciate its value. My review video on this is my highest viewed video. I think over 70K views last I checked, and a lot of folks bought one based on that video and love it. I'm hoping you get to a brisket and some Cornish game hens soon. How's the foot?

I’m really glad I listened to you on this smoker as well. The rack of ribs and the bacon you sent home with me after my hunt really got Karen to thinking we should be getting a smoker as well and the meat was so good and the price of the unit was right making getting this one a no brainer. We were just talking about doing a brisket once I get back into the boot and am more mobile. I go back to see the surgeon on Friday to get the stitches out and then get another non weight bearing hard cast for 2 more weeks then into a walking cast for a couple of more weeks. Time seems to be dragging , can’t wait to get back in the boot.

I love my Okalahoma Joe offset, but now its at my property because I bought one of those high priced Pitboss smokers. I feel its great that you can set it and forget it. You will love doing a whole chicken or even a turkey. When it's close to being done, crank the temperature up to 425 for the last half hour and it will crisp up the skin really nice. I hope your recovery is going well.

Those Pit Boss Smokers are awesome and I almost went that route but trying to conserve a little cash and we already had a good grill. A whole chicken is in the near future, thanks for the tip Craig

Can't go wrong with a Texas made rub. hahaha. Yes sir, I do the 5 hour cook on mine as well. I try the 3 two 1 method, but most of the time at those temps, the ribs are done after the 3 and two, and I will unwrap just to get the outer layer crispier if that makes sense. Then I am done. hahaha. Looks wonderful my friend. I can see one of these smokers being perfect for smoking smaller meals of fish as well. The stick smokers are great, but even a small meal is a production. I have tabled these for so long having two stick burners, but I can see how awesome this would be for the smaller cooks for my wife and I. Oh yeas sir, I through them corns on the Cobb on the grill as well. Look great sir. Looks very tender sir, sounds great. Enjoy this meal my friends, how fun is that. Angy likes the sweet and spicy rubs, I am more of a hotter than sweeter rub type. I have made a lot of my own rubs as well. Keep up the fun videos sir. D Continued prayers for your recovery. Dale

We have been experimenting with a lot of different rubs and I’m in your camp as well Dale, the spicier the better but to keep Karen happy I don’t go overboard with the hot rub and will heat things up with a little Famous Dave’s “Devil’s Spit” sauce. We also sometimes throw the corn on the grill as well. Always mixing it up keeps thing interestingly. Thanks for coming along. Got my tying bench set up last night and will start playing around today. Have a great rest of your week Don

I'm doing ribs this evening after getting the kiddo's home from school, but I'm cheating and doing them in the oven just for time sake..lol..The next smoker I get will be an electric one like that one. I have a propane one now and it's does a great job, but I like the idea of set it and go do something else. Those ribs looked great Don, I'm glad you and Karen enjoyed them!! Great Video Brother!!

Thanks Andrew , they were good and the surgery did go well…. At least according to the surgeon. Just got the stitches out Friday and am now in my 2nd, non-weight bearing hard cast. In two weeks I’ll go back and hopefully get a walking cast for a couple more weeks before I go into a boot for 6 more weeks . Don’t know if I’ll get back on the water this season but in the meantime I’m gonna try my hand at tying some hair jigs and stuff to keep me occupied.

Thanks Nicole. We built this place 31 years ago and although we’re getting tired of the long winters we love where we live. I made that clock from a Burl from a Black Walnut, the 12, 3, 6 & 9 are made from the brass of 12 Gauge shotgun shells, the other numbers are made with the brass from my 30-30 shells. Fresh local corn is the best !

Yes, I have the exact same model.. I also line the bottom slanted drip pan tray with tin foil and I also bought some tin foil water pans the same size as the one it came with (50 pans for $11) and use those as sometime the pan it came with got nasty snd gooey and greasy and stinky and even hard one time and was difficult to clean out... So now I just throw the tin pans away after use.. much easier...but that's just me though... I wanna spend my time relaxing and eating... hey... just like you!!!😊

Thanks Mike, you will definitely not be disappointed fishing the Stumpfield. My suggestion would be to launch and head back under the bridge and fish the stumpy area around the bend to the right. Work the stumps with a weightless Senko ( I’ve become partial to Black with Blue flakes but have had success with several different colors). Good Luck

@@megacase I think you would have to check it out to see if you can get in there but if you can it is highly recommended. Be advised this time of year it is probably completely covered with pads, the smaller ones should be dying off. This is for the Marsh only. If you want to go to the main Stumpfield by all means it is open and a great place to go in a canoe

That seems like a really good smoker! I had an electric that was way lower tech by comparison, and so I got a pit barrel (no relation to pit boss), and it's about as low maintenance you can get for a non electric. It's pretty much charcoal only, but the flavor is insane. I always tell people charcoal is like cheating. I too want an offset someday... Just seems like the proper way, but agree that babysitting it might not be fun. Those ribs looked incredible 👍

I really love this smoker Ryan , it is so easy and the variety of wood chips I have used really makes it interesting. Nothing better than the smell of Hickory. These ribs were incredible as has been everything else we have smoked. We used to go to a smoke house to get our BBQ, the owner of which I had become friends with. Karen says “no more”. I don’t even want to tell the guy we got a smoker … but it’s such a cost saver.

ahhhhh I love it man, I love it. I've got a masterbuilt electric smoker. I've smoked so many bone in boston butts and pork shoulders. My kids and step kids asked me to smoke those boston butts all the time. I've got a good wet rub for a boston butt or pork shoulder if you ever want it. I'm curious why you don't remove the silver skin on the ribs? is their a reason or just decided not to do it on these? Great stuff Don. This is right up my alley!

Thanks Mike , you mentioned you liked cooking videos so you’re the reason I did this and next week’s Bacon wrapped venison back-strap video. These electric smokers are great, tough to beat in my mind just for the simplicity of use and the results are awesome to boot. To be honest, I didn’t pull off the membrane because I couldn’t get a good grip on it and didn’t want to go get some pliers…. Just too lazy real 😬😂. I would love to see hour wet rub recipe send me an email and we will definitely give it a go. I will do a couple more cooking videos when I’m able to get around better in a walking cast. ✌️

Hey Wayne , well I’d like to blame it on the pup but that wouldn’t be fair. We were working on his retrieving skills and I slipped on a submerged rock while going after the retrieving dummy. POP ! pain shot all the way up thru my calf …. Ruptured Achilles. Had to wear the moon boot for about 10 days prior to getting surgery scheduled. I was actually relatively mobile prior to the surgery but am now in a hard cast and not allowed to put any weight on that foot so getting around is a bit more difficult. This Friday I’ll go back in and get the stitches removed and then go into another hard cast for 2 more weeks, again no weight on the foot. Hopefully after an additional 2 weeks I’ll get put into a walking cast for a couple more weeks and then back into this boot for at least 6 more weeks at which time I’ll begin 20 weeks of Physical Therapy. The back has been great but sitting around in a recliner for 6 weeks sure isn’t helping that situation. Been a bit of a rough year but this is just another obstacle that we will overcome. Hope you and Lynn are doing well. Cheers !

I started seeing my Physical Therapist for this Achilles after I slipped off an extension ladder a few weeks before I totally blew it out and told her I was in the grocery store and I saw a couple of old men limping around in the store and I was thinking getting old sucks when it hit me as I was hobbling along…I was the 3rd old man limping around the store. Do you have this style of smoker and if so, do you scrub the interior walls of your smoker after every use ?
