We taste through all three new expressions from the Heaven Hill Distillery in their Grain to Glass series. We start with the rye Bourbon mash bill which is 35% rye, 53% corn, and 13% malt at 107°. Then we move on to the wheat Bourbon mash bill which switches out the rye for 35% wheat and is 121°. Lastly we try the barrel proof rye which is 63% rye, 24% corn, and 13% malt at 123.2°. All three of these bottles are 700ml with a national limited U.S. distribution with plans to eventually be distributed over seas. They carry a suggested retail price of $99.99.

These sound great but being a limited release I’ll probably not see them in my area. One can only hope. Maybe it will be shelf stable in a few years. I'm a big fan of the 7 year bib from HH. Great review. Enjoy!!

The only way to beat the price hikes is to pass on these type releases. It didn’t suddenly cost 5x as much $ to make a bottle of bourbon in the past few years.

I hope you enjoy your experience. I enjoyed it. Especially the pour your own. I wonder if they'll offer the grain to glass for tasting. I'm enjoying it right now. If they have the Bernheim...pay attention to that one. Always super good.

Big fan of Heaven Hill (7yr BIB, ECBP, LBP) and looking forward to these. The wheated has my main interest, especially after seeing the praise it’s received, but the rye would probably be my second. Hope to try these soon!

Let's hope that Binny's receives a decent size allotment here in Chicago. I'd love to grab a bottle of that G-to-G high rye bourbon. If it weren't for the proof point (> 110 is normally too hot for my blood, ) I'd also go for the new wheater.

It's weird that in whiskies that supposedly accent different varieties of corn than Heaven Hill uses, they chopped the corn percentage down to barely legal. 🤔 16:58 Is that choice or one money? Or for those who don't know Southern auction lingo, is the $99.99 price per bottle, or for all three together? 🙂

I saw this release on Breaking Bourbon. I asked my guy about it but he hadn't heard anything yet. This is great to see so I can get my feelers out there. The $100 price tag doesn't scare me at al. I definitely want the Wheated as that's usually my favorite. Thanks for a great review!!!

Marketing spin and not actually grain to glass, not that these things have definitions from the TTB, they just mean KY Grain to Glass. But when I think Grain to Glass I think Single Estate like Frey Ranch or Jeptha Creed. So my guess is that HH's traditional mash is not wholly KY grain to glass.

You can't go wrong with HH. "Supply and Demand". Demand for bourbon is on the rise, prices go up with it. Bourbon is becoming popular again, bourbon websites and RU-vid channels appeal to the younger generation, and trends appeal to Hipsters. Again, the demand creates an increase in prices. Marketing is big business. Now it's time to crack open one of those "triple fruit-loop, citrus infused, bourbon barrel finished, IPA's".
