Summary: Damon introduces three NLP techniques. The first is calibration, which involves recognizing changes in other people's physiology, breathing, skin tone, or voice tone to identify the states they are entering. This technique can help identify one's own states and avoid entering a less resourceful one. The second technique is anchoring, which involves matching a sound or a touch to a particular state and then repeating it to put oneself or others back into that state. This technique is useful for managing optimal states and influencing and persuading others. Finally, mapping across, typically done with submodalities, involves leveraging NLP techniques to change someone's perception of a particular memory or situation to create a shift in their emotional state.

I took the practioner training in 1994 ,I was 19 years old I was one or the younger students in and I use nlp when I talk with customers using conflict integration and and when I can sense they have a burden on them . Tim halbom Susie smith and Robert dilts were the instructors . I am grateful for the you tube to give more people an insight into what nlp can do. Very effective tools for every day rapport to therapeutic results for traumatic events ,6 step reframing and change personal history both have deep results for the short time it takes to retrieve and address the issues . Now 25 years later I sense it's time to take the master trac to get more tools to help more people. Amen and namaste

you have reminded me the of thesales training I had when working sales over ten years ago but more depth timing, judgement how to keep control and the ways to keep rapport and keep a positive atmosphere. I was taught like this, funneling down questions leading to yes answers and keep them thinking of all the positives like how they feel what they get and I cant remember the rest but it was basic training then trial and error until I had a script that was natural for me and flowed. This Is the first video I have watched on NLP, apart from the introduction. I find it funny that years later im getting a much better understanding as to how it work and the triggers I can use. Im not looking at NLP. sorry if that was long winded, I wasnt expecting a reply. cheers mate.

Would you consider this a type of NLP technique at all?: I created this mental box analogy just over a year ago to help myself battle social anxiety disorder, where I would picture myself (my life/my self worth) as or in a box. I would then picture other people (each an individual box) & their opinions, judgments, criticism, etc., in their box. I did this to compartmentalize & separate their thoughts (real or perceived) from mine. (This was a real sanity saver for me!) So, basically every time the anxiety would set in, I would do this mental exercise where I imagined their opinions in their box, staying separate from mine, so as to not take on their thoughts as my own, which I feel was the root of my anxiety - letting others determine my self worth in some way or another, which more often left a very negative feeling. I didn't use a previous positive experience, but this did still rewire my thinking a great deal. Just curious if this is an NLP type method possibly, or something else. I just started learning about NLP so I'm really curious.
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 7 лет назад
Very nice and very creative. Any time you're creating a program and using the senses (in this case a visual) and you're using metaphor, yes, you're using NLP. NLP is not metaphor and it's not imagined visuals however. NLP is the awareness that you unconsciously use metaphor and imagined imagery, and then manipulating visuals and metaphor to serve you. Well done.
@ginaheaton2203

I think that is a great idea and lord knows I need something like this because I'm surrounded by critics and it's endless. Now I can see the boxes surrounding me, and yapping at me. How do I go from there to separation? They are still yapping as I type this except I can see the boxes yapping but there is no sound I can hear. I hope this works for me cause lord knows I need this.

kaylinnb hi there I was just reading your comment,and I suffer with the same,since the age of 14,now 37,I've been avoiding people, places,events,so now I hardly go out,and have difficulty keeping in touch with any friends which has left me in a depression, I've no self worth, and I struggle eachday,could you please tell me how you manage to control your social anxiety, you've found a tool that has helped you all on your own,8 understand if you don't reply, as you might be thinking (god she needs help,but not from me,professional help)I've been there too,thank you for taking the time to read this,and may you continue, a happy healthy life,It's amazing what you've accomplished,stay safe,stay strong, kind regards juliet

Use the tool above it is a good one. And raise your self esteem, with little wins all the time. Make your bed every morning, do a 30 minute walk 2-3 times a week. Simple things that you count as a win. It will add up, the effect is cumulative.
@TheStrangelys

kaylinnb i would just think it's a great coping technique, following their advice to not imagine you and everyone as porous amoebas where you mesh with others. If you did a physical exercise in the mirror with your hands (draw a box around you), or with another person (gesticulated during conversation) that might be NLP...?

Great video! Having studied Method acting extensively I can attest to the use of modalities and sub-modalities along with many other techniques that some of the greatest actors in the world use on stage and in films. Have you ever wondered why or how actors can draw you into the situation (as if) they are in by conveying their feelings and you are then emotionally drawn in to what you are watching? I will admit that you must possess empathy to be emotionally committed as narcissists fall out of such capability. The action of NLP truly works but, only if you are someone who is highly conscientious of human interaction with the capability to read the subtle facial or physical tells and changes that most people are unaware of conveying.

Change happens WHEN you change the emotions, this takes NLP to the next level. Emotions are the glue that makes the thoughts stick. The stronger the emotion the more power it has.
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 6 лет назад
Thank you for your comment. That's a little vague. Can you give me an example of what you mean?
@timsmith8277
@timsmith8277 6 лет назад
If you have a problem and let's say, for the sake of argument, your shy and you wanna meet girls for instance, identify the emotion, fear, embarrassment or what ever. Then take that, put it out in front you, take your hand and move the emotion to the side (the brain does not know the difference between real and imaginationed) Then add a desired emotion, look at it, feel it, it ok, then add the the first emotion back mix it up till you have fear-laughter, or what ever the emotions are. Put it back where you found it. It won't be the same. Look up Tom Vizzini and Kim McFarland and the 3D Mind. I think they over complicated the process to much to much.
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 6 лет назад
Emotions don't happen spontaneously. They may seem that way but that's because the trigger or visual/auditory/kinesthetic stimulus is unconscious. If you're not working with the stimulus the emotions will come back. This might be a temporary fix but I have doubts about it creating lasting change.
@timsmith8277
@timsmith8277 6 лет назад
Well without testing it, you just went the full dismissal of it. Thanks, your just not progressive and pretty ordinary.
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 6 лет назад
It doesn't matter how "progressive" you think you are there are still certain basics that have to be taken into account. If you want to create a new aircraft and fly across the world for example, you're still going to have to deal with gravity. Also I don't think you realize that in the process you're suggesting, you're having to use visual and auditory modalities to represent the emotion. How else could you possibly put an emotion "out in front of you"? Emotions are only felt inside of you. If you're putting it in front of you and moving it, that can only be done by a visual or auditory representation (or a combination of the two). I'm not saying the idea behind the process you mention would never work. It sounds like some basic NLP ideas mixed with someone's ideas thrown in like someone learned some NLP and ran with it and never took the time to really understand how it works. I may be ordinary, but you haven't understood the basics of NLP. You may be able to get a NLP process to work for you here and there, but your results will be haphazard and unpredictable at best.

I should do a video on mapping across because you're not the first person to ask about it. Mapping across is when you take the submodalities of a positive and resourceful experience and apply them to a situation where you would like to experience the same resourcefulness.

Thank you for clarifying that. I don't know if my written words came across as a criticism. Apologies if they have. They weren't meant to be. They were intended as a suggestion more than anything else.
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 6 лет назад
I wasn't offended. When you give feedback and you use words like "need to" as in "You need to slow way down" it is called a Modal Operator in NLP. Words like need, have to, can't, must, etc. come from a parental or cultural archetype. When people talk like this to themselves it usually means they're parenting themselves. When some people give feedback like this to others it can make them feel like a child, which is probably not the effect you want.

@DamonCart
@DamonCart 4 года назад
Welcome aboard! Yes, calibration and sensory acuity is all of those things but not reframing. That's a different skill/technique. But to reframe effectively, you will want to gain rapport with the person, which is where sensory acuity and calibration come in.

What are some books you would recommend for me to get started learning nlp.
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 6 лет назад
Reading NLP books to learn NLP can be a bit daunting because NLP is experiential and to learn it you need to practice it. There are good books out there though. Some books give you exercises to do on your own and some give you processes and exercises to do with others. Make sure you do the exercises because that's the only way to really learn NLP so it helps to have a partner or a group. Any books from Steve and Connirae Andreas are great. They have an uncanny ability to take complex concepts and make them simple and easy to understand. I'll give you the advice that Steve gave to me, which is start with their more recent books and work your way back to their earlier books. Whatever you do, I don't recommend that you start with the first NLP books ever written by Bandler and Grinder. They read like engineering textbooks, not user friendly.

Question: how do you control your moods, states and emotion? And if so, how can you become consciously aware?
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 5 лет назад
That's a big topic. Perhaps I will do a video on it. Moods, states, and emotions are patterns and they're usually triggered by specific events are people. Intervention or interrupting the pattern is the key. You can first start by recalling the last time your mood or state shifted. Find where it actually started to shift. It might surprise you how early it actually started. It probably started well before you were conscious of it. Find what triggered it. Your moods, states, and emotions don't just come up randomly. They're either being triggered by outside information or something internal. Ask yourself what is the positive intent of the mood, state, or emotion regardless if it's negative. There's always a positive intent underlying it. Reintegrate that positive intent or value with a positive mood, state, or emotion that will fulfill the underlying positive intent. This will take some practice. Don't be discouraged if negative feelings seem to sneak up on you. Winning this game is not about never losing your center. It's about getting it back as quickly as possible once you realize you lost it.

I started my training with Robert Dilts and Judith DeLozier. I attended their practitioner, master practitioner, and trainer training. I also resource coached for their master practitioner. I did Tim Hallbom's courses and also resource coached for a few of his trainings. I did some training with Bandler as well. But the person who really showed me what NLP is and what it can do is Steve Andreas. He mentored me for years before he passed last year. His son Mark and his wife Connirae still teach.

I don't. What will be much more effective in telesales is going to be the tonality of your voice and the language you use. There are many books on hypnotic language and language patterns of influence like Sleight of Mouth. Those will help you more than these techniques in telesales.

Hi, I am new to NLP and just started watching your videos. I was wondering if the following is an example of an NLP technique. I am a therapist and I asked my client to write down a thought that has resulted in a lot of distress. The thought included the phrase "too thin/too fat". I asked him to cross out the words "thin/fat" and replace with a random word, such as "blue". Let me know your thoughts on this! Thank you for your videos.
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 3 года назад
That's not really a NLP technique unless you're attempting a pattern interrupt. If that's the case you would need to lead the person to where you want them to go once they're confused. But that doesn't seem to be your intent. NLP would be asking them "too fat for what?", "too thin for what?". There's obviously missing information here that needs to be recovered for them to move forward. See my videos on the NLP Meta Model.

Mapping Across is an incredible technique. Can I use it in this case: I dont have issues to dance in front of my brother, but in front of basically every one else I get extreme anxiety. When I imagine in my mind those people are my brother or they are wearing his face, I feel less anxiety. So it gets more possible for me to dance in front of them. Could this be a good example?

would NLP work best with depressed people since they have a higher alpha state? and the other way around for anxious people since they are more aware and concentrating, especially if they have social anxiety and they will be in a beta state.
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 7 лет назад
Thank you for your question. NLP can do wonders for both depression and anxiety. Think of NLP sort of like Mixed Martial Arts. It's a model of models, which focuses on usefulness more than theory. It's a bit of art and science combined. The study of states; how to easily maneuver from one resourceful state to another as needed and how to induce states in others is a huge part of NLP. Some people in NLP like to get into alpha and beta states. I prefer to go by what I feel if I'm working on myself and I prefer to go by what I see and hear and what the person tells me when I'm working with someone else.

Good question. Perhaps I should do a video demonstrating the process of Mapping Across. If I try to write it out here it's not going to make much sense unless you've seen it demoed before. Basically you're taking the way you process information in one situation where you're effective and confident and applying it to a situation where you want to be more effective and confident.

hey. just started researching nlp but if I'm understanding the concept an example might be: when I was a kid, beating Zelda...that final screen made me so proud of myself. stressor - coming home and the kids have trashed the house. rewire the stressor to associate with a proud, happy moment from childhood so I hug the kids and discuss their day instead of throwing a tantrum like my father did. I understood everything you said, I’m a natural skeptic however. How do you know you aren’t just in a echo chamber reinforced by others in the nlp community. Do you ever think that people subconsciously or consciously know you are manipulating them but they allow you to do so and in respect to this you’re actually the one being manipulated
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 5 лет назад
This is actually a valid question and it sounds like it comes from a place of healthy skepticism rather than just trying to tear something down. There are many people who start NLP training with the idea of becoming a coach and a NLP trainer and if they don't practice enough and master the skills they often become exactly what you're asking about. They're not getting results and they're not cultivating the skill but they want to believe it works but it's not so they just become impersonations of their teachers. I've gotten extraordinary results from NLP starting back when a professor of mine helped me overcome depression in one session when I was in my early 20s. Later I wanted to learn NLP to fix my insurance business. I had no intention of teaching it or becoming a coach, but as I got better at it I realized it was a calling and that I had to share it with others otherwise I wasn't going to reach my own potential. I've been doing it for 6 years and my life has fully transformed and I help my clients do the same. Great question. Thank you.

I always seem to pick up on it. This happened to me recently with a guy I met up with. He is a therapist and I asked him to meet up in the hope we might be able to get to know each other from a romantic interest perspective and he just used NLP on me. I knew it afterwards. It came out about a month after talking and exchanging emails that he was in a relationship. Yet he used a lot of NLP over emails too. I’m so confused as to why he even bothered hypnotising me and half smiling and using and a lot embedded phrases and other techniques around trust building (like often referring to the weather) unless he was planning on having an affair? Needless to say, it absolutely makes you not trust the person and comes across as manipulation.
