@Lucid Autowerks - Have you looked at Precision Matthews? I have been shopping around for a lathe that is roughly 10 x 22 or 11 X 33 and they seem to be the most bang for the buck. Just food for thought. Needless to say, I have not turned loose of the cash yet but I think one of those two will be the one I go with. 😁
Precision Matthews does look like it has some pretty good stuff. I love my South Bend and I recently picked up a Logan but I'd kinda like something a little newer some day.
@LucidAutowerks I'm jealous. There's a few near me in rougher shape with no quick change gearbox for feed. Might be a project lathe and build it back up, or bite the bullet and get the restored one.
I'd look for a wheel specific lathe. Just chucking up a wheel that size would require a really big lathe but then you have to be able swing the tool around the lip to do any cutting. Normally lathes that can chuck up large pieces like that are also really long. What is done when cutting beads? Are you doing repairs to the part where the tire seats against the lip of the wheel?
