I actually use GPD Win Max in my work like conference or briefing. People will feel a little strange for such a tiny laptop, but they will accept it right away.

In my opinion GPD WIN MAX 2 should be considered as a mini laptop not handheld. If think that way it will be a great device for people who love small form factor device.
Just look at Panasonic SF-SV2, it has everything needs in a SFF laptop even the old tech like VGA port and CD drive, all in small forms 11-inch. Everything is available right out of the box, which GPD, Macbook or even Framework didn't. this thing should only be considered as PDA like the very old palmtop.

The specific Panasonic laptop model you say is woefully outdated (11th gen Intel) and weak compared with GPD Max Win 2. 3. Yeah it had VGA Port (who even uses it anymore outside of its target market) and Disk Drive (why do you even wanted this integrated when you can use external ones), you cant upgrade the RAM of this laptop. So this Chunky laptop, is not that different than a macbook lifespan wise, their lifespan is practically the same. 4. This cant be considered a PDA. GPD Max Win 2 is just way too big for that. It is more correct to consider it a mini laptop or a netbook, but contrast to old. netbook that is very weak, this laptop is very capable. I would argue that, between GPD laptop and that specific Panasonic laptop. People Will be better off using this GPD Win Max 2 even though they don't have upgradeable memories. Atleast they have super high memory preset available.
As someone who currently has a win 3 and uses it for both gaming and work I'd say yeah this is perfect I no longer gotta carry an external keyboard and a dock

1) Set a lower tdp so that it doesn't get so hot. 5w-10w for productivity, and really only 15w for most gaming. 2) Switch analogue sticks to mouse mode, and you'll almost never use the track pad anyway, I normally only use it when I don't want to take it out of gaming mode, in the middle of game of switching between games on steam. 3) yes, it is heavy if you're trying to hold it out in front of you. the device is so "tall" when it's open, I usually find myself resting the bottom rim (below the keyboard) on my lap if I'm sitting, my stomach if I'm lying down, or a surface if I'm at a table or something. Takes all the weight away, and I love it because I don't have to croone my neck down to look at it, it's usually more eye level. 4) yes, it is very expensive. It's a premium product that cannot be sold at a loss like the steam deck. But it's also a fully functioning Windows 11 PC, a very capable gaming pc/handheld, and can pretty much be used for any and all other things, even if it is a "master of none" as you say, I still love that it truly is a "jack of all trades." I own a steam deck, as well, and I use both equally.
Well said! A lot of earlier reviews focused on the superior performance of the win max 2 comparing to the SteamDeck. I got my win max 2 a few month back after I returned my SteamDeck. I thought the handheld gaming experience would be as good as the SteamDeck but SteamDeck was way better in terms of controller layout and comfort. I ended up playing no game on the win max 2. With that said, win max 2 is a perfect travel laptop. Although it has a bigger screen than SteamDeck, its laptop shape allows me to fit it in a smaller compartment of my PeakDesign bag. The SteamDeck is just too big for traveling with a small bag. I only use win max 2 for travel nowadays and have the joystick pretty much covered.

Well, that's what supposed to be, a jack of all trades. It's a powerful enough to be a laptop and ergonomic enough to be a handheld. Heck it even has the option to connect it to a dedicated GPU and you can have a PC as well.
they should release the same laptop, but with an 8-inch screen and small buttons, also on the back it is better to make handles like all modern gamepads
Wish granted, the Win Mini is pretty much a smaller Max 2 (the processor is slower than the Max 2 one but still very powerful, some gaming handhelds already uses that processor such as the Ayaneo Air 1S) with a 120hz screen.
This is the perfect device! I travel and fly a lot so not only is it lightweight for me to carry around but it allows me to work and gaming on the road/flight. If i want the master of one, there's a dedicated gaming rig at home. For travel, i care more about the size and weight
Decided to take a risk. I have been happy with it. No it is not perfect but it is a happy fun and productive mix. Been able to game and use it professionally. Plug in to my external GPU for rendering and it is ideal for IT Tech Support mobility. Really loving the flexibility.
Exactly one device can do it all… in terms on gaming, make it low settings when you are on battery gradually increase the tdp when experiencing lag. Blur graphic is fine as long as no lag…. Touch pad is awkward so use mouse. Game control is fine…. I think of this device is for traveling sometimes gaming, can do work. If you just do gaming then buy steam deck
I agreed that if you just wanna game just buy a Steam Deck. These are my experiences after using the device for months, highlighting my issues will hopefully help people make well informed choices when spending their money.
I have the GPD win max 2 and I totally disagree with this video. Yes, you have to get use to it but it's a powerful handheld / laptop powerful AMD, egpu support, run AAA games, can max out 8tb and LTE support. What more can you ask for.

1)I think they could add a Trackpoint like thinkpads and that would help. 2) AMD needs to make a more efficient processor, and when they do hopefully its 5-7w so total power is 10w or something rather than 30+ personally i wish it had removeable batteries or was 98whr instead 3) its ironic how this is the only 6800u laptop thats readily available, and $1k is pretty cheap considering that. That being said personally I would want an X230 or X60 laptop with modern specs, and modern I/O then just have a seperate controller. If you want something small/ pocketable then it has to be clamshell and 6-7inch screen imo
I think if u set tdp lower you can get basic laptop needs accomplished p well esp since its such a high performant cpu, I'll expect that at lower watts it'll be ok though I'm not sure as I've never tried the device but I do know GPD makes changing the tdp of their device's cpu rly easy
despite the gaming features, this seems like the best "laptop" of it's size overall. Is there a better dedicated solution for note taking/browsing/low level stuff? I don't even need to game! But those emmc and chromebook pcs are not it
I had a Win Max 1, and the Win Max 2. The improvements they made for it to be perfect for productivity and gaming makes me happy. I needed a device like this when I travel for work - and this lets me do everything I need, wherever I am.
I would always prefer this over any other hand-held that have their joysticks and screen unprotected in a back pack, of course you could always buy a case but this makes a lot more sense to me, good enough for gaming and doing work, if you're at home you can always dock it and you a mouse and keyboard
It should be mentioned that all of these issues, minus the ergonomics, can be resolved with software. The heat is a product of high TDP, which can be turned down using a tool. As for the touchpad, there's a firmware update that fixes that issue.
Lowering the tdp to reduce heat in a 1k system would mean you lose out on performance for that money spent just to play indie and older games. Seems like a waste of money if you buy this as a gaming device

The problem with "better devices for a given task" is that the gaming handhelds while all pretty decent DO NOT perform as well as the Win Max 2 at gaming so "Master of none" does NOT apply here. The Win Max 2 according to The Phuax has the highest benchmarks of the AMD 7840U APUs. It has a native landscape display which is better and no tinkering needed for older games. I haven't bought one yet because I'm on the fence about the controls, which is why I clicked this video.
i wish there was a device like this that was half the cost, and simply didnt run AAA pc games well as a trade off. But unfortunately this type of device is niche. Most people would rather have a laptop or a dedicated gaming handheld like the Steamdeck.
I think if you have a normal decent job this is very affordable. I don't want to carry around a bulky laptop to all my meetings and this bad boy is perfect.
You could get the gpd win 2 as its similar to a 3ds kinda and it’s good at running emulation for let’s go pikachu and eevee so that can work out but if you’re a more hardcore player you could get the win 3
The price is a lot more interesting since the 2023 update, but there is a bit of unfair judgment, trackpad hot to the point that you have to shake your hand? This is a bit far fetched.
I own the Max 1 and indeed love to have every game I could possibly want in one single portable enough device, which can still serve as an actual laptop. However, it took me a long time getting used to its heavy weight as a borderline handheld (I think I had to actually get stronger); so when I saw that the Max 2 was even larger, that was the deal-breaker for me.
this is cool for split screen 2 player gaming hand a mini blue tooth controller to a friend and play 2 player games when ever no other device can do that
The 2023 rehash should be right up your alley then. Faster, more efficient cpu (7840U 8C/16T). Better ram (Quad Channel lpddr5 7500). 12 RDNA 3 CUs (780M ~ = 1060 3GB). And an oculink/USB 4.0 display port, for docking to an external GPU.
To county your argument of advice, they can do it all, as I don’t know how powerful that computer you were looking at is from my experience using the steam deck. It is a jack of all traits as you can use it as a PC and or a gaming console extremely easily. I will never know, of course until I get one of these things myself and the more and more I look at GPD after years of putting them off for having really high crazily priced items the more I want it just because they are so small and convenient to move around and have😂

The touchpad may seem awkward... but have you really never been bothered by resting your hands on touchpads when typing on normal laptops? I have always hated it.

Bruh, NONE of these handheld PCs popping up lately are the value of their trade, ALL TOO EXPENSIVE in the $1000+ price range. IF they were all smart enough to price them reasonably as Nintendo or $ony has I’d consider. Granted theirs are specifically gaming handhelds, not portable/mobile power hungry PCs.

I completely disagree on everything you said. I love mine and find it way more comfortable to use than the steam deck. I can have my hands more on my lap like a regular controller. Yeah it’s heavy if you’re holding it up like you do which isn’t the best way anyways. Don’t do that. That’s silly. At least it has a trackpad. I only use the trackpad for navigation. Always have a mouse cause to me ALL trackpads suck no matter where they are located! Don’t max out the tdp and it won’t get hot. No reason to run it past 20 watts. You don’t get anymore real performance at 30. Maybe 2-3 extra fps? Take your time to understand the system it is awesome!!!

If you are only a gamer sure it may not be for you but for me it fits all my needs in one device so I don’t have to take a big ass laptop on a trip.
If you don't use it for gaming than what would be the point of owning this? You can find much cheaper laptops that can handle any work related thing you need without the extra price for an uncomfortable controller.
Yea this device is weird. Just get an ally next month. If it were just a netbook then it woukd appeal to a different audience but its trying to appeal to two.
I zwould recommend the ayaneo slide or the legion go if u dont care for the keyboard asus rog ally i own myself and is really capable on the gaming end but the windows end of things is manageble but not practical maybe next round ill get a ayaneo slide because of the keyboard
I just find it kinda funny when people say something is a steamdeck killer when there's always a trade off, and even if there isn't the steamdeck is just way more versatile than anything the "steam deck killers" have to offer
Hows a steam deck more versatile then other pc handhelds when they can do the same things as a steam deck and more since most got more power, better display and some w keyboards so u can do work and gaming on same device, steam deck is only good for gaming and the only thing steam deck got over the others is the price.

@@RU-vidpoiuytre The market is Microsoft and Mac, not Linux. Valve's leadership even stated that they are worried that the low cost of the steam deck is going to bite them in the rear. Now that the ASUS Ally is on "deck" (pun intended) for $700, it's going to get very interesting for Valve. Ayaneo and all of the other 1K plus devices that were bragging and boasting over the steam deck will have to drop prices now. Fun times.
I agree with the weight comments, it's a beefy boy. I play while I ride a stationary bike, and the heft is, at best, manageable. But how hot are your components getting? Even when mine are in the 70s, I have not found the device too hot to hold or too hot to use the touchpad.
For less demanding games/tasks it’s not a problem but anything above 28W I’ve seen my unit going above 80+ Hopefully a thermal pad will help. Charging during use is always going to be warmer too
@@Bytezombieblog That's extremely hot for that wattage! I don't get into the 80s until I'm redlining at 35W. Maybe that thermal pad or even just a repaste will help.

As someone who owned one of these things I can confirm that this thing, is a pile of garbage. If you want something that only plays games get a steam deck. If you want something to play games and use as personal computer? while also being on the go? Get a gaming laptop, and a cheap Bluetooth controller. Sure it’s gonna be bigger but it’s gonna be infinitely better, and you can find a gaming laptop way cheaper than this thing. I would recommend the Sega nomad over this thing, I would recommend the neo geo pocket over this thing, I would even recommend the game com over this thing. It’s a waste of money when there are so many other cheaper options out there.
Every point here is wrong, you just made this for views didnt you, ive had mine and it is comfortable for long gaming periods, just as comfortable as the steam deck if you use it right and its $800 for the 16gb ram 1tb ssd and 1200 for 64 gb ram and 2tb ssd, way more powerful than the over ones so the price is fair
These people... Just get a laptop. This is over $1000 so why even consider this??? For that price you could get a RTX 3060 laptop minimum which would be a lot more powerful
