Welcome to Benoni Baptist Church! In today's sermon, we dive deep into the heart of our fears and how Jesus' words in John 14:15-31 provide comfort and assurance in uncertain times. Whether it's illness, political instability, personal struggles, or financial pressures, fear can feel overwhelming. But Jesus tells us, "Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful."
Join us as we explore three powerful reasons not to fear:
The Spirit remains in you (John 14:15-17): The Spirit is given to and remains with those who love Jesus and keep His commands. The Spirit of truth is our Counselor, Mediator, Intercessor, Comforter, Helper, Advocate, and Counselor. This divine presence assures us that we are never alone. The world may not recognize Him, but as believers, we know Him because He remains with us and will be in us.
The Son comes to you (John 14:18-21): Jesus promises not to leave us as orphans but to come to us. He reassures us that because He lives, we will live too. This promise extends beyond His resurrection to His continual presence with us. Jesus' love for us is a reflection of the Father's love, and His revelation to us is a testament to our intimate relationship with Him.
The Father dwells with you (John 14:22-26): The Father makes His home with those who love Jesus and keep His word. This intimate dwelling is a profound assurance of His proximity and presence in our lives. The Holy Spirit, sent in Jesus' name, will teach us all things and remind us of everything Jesus has said.
As believers, we are called to live out divine love and not be ruled by fear. The command "Do not fear" appears around 100 times throughout the Bible, emphasizing its importance. From God's promise to Abraham to the reassurance given to the Israelites at the Red Sea, to the exiles in Babylon, and the words of angels, the message is clear: Trust in God and not be ruled by fear.
In John 14:15-31, Jesus reassures us that we should not fear because God-the Spirit, the Son, and the Father-is with us. Our confidence is grounded in this divine presence. When life becomes challenging and fears arise, we are reminded that God is our refuge and strength. We can rely on His presence and His promises. John 14 powerfully reminds us that we are never alone; we have His peace and His presence. No matter what we face, we can stand firm, knowing that God is with us and that His perfect love casts out all fear.
For those who have yet to experience this divine love, the invitation is open. In John 14:18, the gospel, specifically the resurrection of Jesus, is implied. Jesus says, "Because I live, you will live too." Jesus is alive! Revelation 1:18 says, "I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades." He offers salvation to all who repent and believe in Him.
We live in a world filled with uncertainties, but we do not have to live in fear. Jesus speaks directly to the heart of our fears, offering peace and reassurance. He reminds us that the Spirit remains in us, the Son comes to us, and the Father dwells with us. Therefore, we have no reason to fear.
