3 Reasons Why Sonic Frontiers Was Better Than Superstars 

So which game do you prefer? Frontiers or Superstars?

I prefer Frontiers, I love the freedom of progression and the focus on Sonic's combat. Superstars is good but later levels are kinda underwhelming imo and I wish some of the bosses were individual acts, especially the last one in Trip's Story.

Short answer to the title: Hell No. Frontiers clears.

I like both games, and it’s kind of hard to choose between the two, but if I had to, I’d probably go with Frontiers. As much as I like Superstars, it can be super frustrating to go through if I just want to replay it casually. I like difficulty in games, but not “I want to throw my controller at the TV” difficulty. Update 3 for Frontiers showed a lot of promise in that regard, and if they continue to work on and balance it, then Sonic games could offer a nice and fair challenge without you raging after so many failed attempts. This kind of goes without saying, but I’ve played Frontiers a lot more than Superstars. I have like three or four accounts that I use and combined, I have like 300 hours or more on the game, and it just goes to show how much fun it really is. Superstars is a very fun game, but only when you’re not wanting to destroy your TV. If every level was Bridge Island or Speed Jungle quality and Tee Lopes worked on more of the OST, then plenty more people would’ve been satisfied with the game. Classic Sonic should have just as much effort put into his games going forward as Modern Sonic. One shouldn’t be put on the back burner and rushed out there because it was easier to make. Classic Sonic was how the Sonic series started, and to say that isn’t as important as Modern Sonic, is blatantly incorrect. Both need as much time to cook as they can get. Rushing out another Sonic ‘06 or Sonic Forces isn’t doing any good. If Superstars had more time, then it easily could’ve rivaled Mania. Anyway, great video as always, Chris!

I personally love both games. But i think Pastel TJ's tweet summed it up best, superstars doesn't have the lows that sonic frontiers has, but it also doesn't have the highs that it does. For me Frontiers is just a better game, mainly because of the impact it left on me when i played it. I haven't felt the way i did since i first beat games like SA2 or unleashed, and to get that feeling after the franchise was a laughing stock really hit hard. Then feeling that again after playing the update 3 boss for the first time really makes sonic frontiers one of my favorite games of all time. That doesn't mean i don't like superstars though i think it's a solid game.

Interesting video! Frontiers is one of the best Sonic games to exist, but I think Superstars may have done it a little better. I like both of them but I do have a different issue with both of them. The issue I have with Frontiers is that the ending can get ridiculous and frustrating if you lose over and over again. The physics is good for the game, as well as the OST. For Superstars, it did it a little better, but I still have issues with the game. The Boss Fights are rigged and really a little unfair. In my opinion, Superstars is better aside from the Boss Fights, but for Frontiers is the ending. But yeah, I like both of these, I'm I can see why people disagree with me. You say Frontiers is better, but I like Superstars is a little bit more. Great video!

Its also worth mentioning that Frontiers and Mania were sort of a revitalizing game for each Sonic style. What I mean by that is its the game where you could pinpoint it and say "That's when the games started finding their way again!" For Mania, it was because it was the first Classic Sonic game ever since 3&K. For Frontiers, it was because it was the first objectively good Sonic game since Generations over a decade ago. This puts Superstars in a bit of an awkward spot since as the first step towards that revitalization era- That revitalization already happened, so it has the responsibility of showcasing how it will push the games forward, which it... kind of does, but kind of doing is not enough, it needs to DO it. And unfortunately it could not do so. It certainly put out some good ideas but didn't execute them well enough to feel like they can carry the series forward and feel only like they'd fit primarily for Superstars rather than be a mainstay for the series. Speaking purely personally though, I prefer Superstars because Update 3 really soured my thoughts on Frontiers and made the cracks I failed to notice before much more obvious. King Koco Trial was the breaking point and I didn't even care to finish it any longer. For all the grief Superstars gave me, I finished that one just fine.

Also it's insane thinking how sonic frontiers critic scores are pre DLC. I'ts like an entirely new game now after all 3 DLCs. Honestly hot take but I think frontiers is the best sonic game ever, for me at least. If frontiers 2 is anything close to frontiers 1 in direction, I'm hyped. Superstars I'm ngl didn't even bother to buy it, the amount of money for superstars for the same price as frontiers. Still superstars looks solid just imo it doesn't hold a candle to frontiers.

for christmas i got a 100$ gift card and i wanted some sonic games, i bought the top 3 newest sonic games of 2022 i bought sonic orgins, sonic colors ultimate, and sonic frontiers and i had about 12 dollars remaining. on xbox there was a sale sonic frontiers was about 20 or 30 dollars, sonic colors ultimate was probably like 20 dollars and sonic orgins was idk IDK THE PRICES I FORGOT BUT I ENDED UP WITH 12 DOLLARS.

I sonic frontiers because of the open world, gameplay music, the free updates. I kind a like the cyber space and my favorite part of sonic frontiers was the insane super sonic boss fights.

Frontiers is in its own lane when it comes to sonic games, and with the said updates to improve n fix alot of the flaws its even better.

Sonic Superstars and Sonic Frontiers are both good games and they are two different games. In my opinion I think Sonic Frontiers is better than Sonic Superstars and the gameplay are good in both Games. Replaying Sonic Superstars is good but I don’t like how long the boss fights in Sonic Superstars are and frontiers boss fights are good and frontiers has a lot of content and the story in Frontiers is good. The music in Superstars was kinda bad and frontiers music was good and Sonic Frontiers really change the Sonic franchise and Sonic Superstars a good 2D Game. Whenever I play Superstars I always feel like a get frustrated with the boss fights but Frontiers I don’t really get mad. The thing about Sonic Superstars is that people don’t talk about Superstars anymore but Frontiers people talk about sense it’s released.

I think you could've waited until Superstars got more patches to put this out. Frontiers received 3 full content updates. They do plan on fixing the issues with Superstars. Most of the issues are bugs that can be fixed just like with Frontiers. Superstars also picked up sales too. We are caught up in the moment but at release, Frontiers got way more negative feedback but over time the patches made it better. You put out good content but I think this is somewhat biased because you only waited a month after Superstars' release. Btw I just subscribed!

Sonic Superstars is obviously probably the best of the two options exclusively on the switch and on the go. How Sonic is supposed to be played personally to me. Sonic frontiers is the better choice on the bigger systems. Sonic Superstars is also rated higher and will definitely age better especially the portable switch version like stated.

Considering Frontiers has no level design aspects, I'd have to give the edge to Superstars, since Arzest at least put levels together and not random loops, rails, and gizmos for an ugly world.

I think the major thing about Frontiers is just simply the fact that Sonic Forces was the previous 3D Sonic game before it. Like I think Frontiers is definitely the better game but personally I don't think it would have scored as well IF we never got Forces or even Lost World for that matter. Meanwhile Superstars had Mania before it which compared to Forces was definitely the better game. Mania was just like to good that it just kinda made Superstars look like trash. Now if Mania never existed, I think Superstars would have done way better. Though personally for me I would say Frontiers has fun gameplay and more value but personally I still think the aesthetic of the game and its presentation is boring as hell. Like I defiantly agree that Superstars played it safe by being another 2D Sonic game but personally I think the games over all personation was better than Frontiers. I don't even hate the more like realistic vibe of Frontiers but man those Islands just are boring as hell and generic to look at. Personally, I think Frontiers played it a little safer astatically then Superstars. Like think about it they got Green Hill, Chemical Plant, Sky Sanctury and these barely Sonic afield. looking islands. Like I know the Adventure Games, Unleashed and 06 went for a more realistic levels but personally I think those still look like interesting and unique. So personally I would say Frontiers wins with the gameplay and value but Superstars is more like visually pleasing.
