Funny thing is Brisbane tends to fly under the radar a bit. I'm a Melbournian and although I've visited the Gold Coast, I've never been to Brisbane. That said, I have seen quite a few videos on YT of Americans and Canadians saying Brissie is way better than they expected.

They do movies in the Southbank pools on summer nights. You float in the pool and watch the big screen.

I lived in Brisbane for 7 years before moving south (I didn't handle the heat so well). Of all the places I've lived, Brisbane has always been my favourite, so great to see glimpses of Brissy through your families eyes.

You need to try the Rivercat /Ferry from Southbank. The round trip to UQ and then to other end will take 3 hours. The rivercat /Ferry returns to Southbank . You can paid via Go Card for trips. This will give a totally different view of Brisbane. It will also show you the walk ways along the Brisbane River

I lived in Brisbane for several years. It is a great place. I met many 'Poms' there and always wondered how they coped with the heat, so I eventually asked one about it. He said, no, he loves the heat; he had been there 10 years and "still haven't got the chill out of my bones."

Some places we visited when in Brisbane: Eat Street night market, Gold Coast (an hours drive away), Australia Zoo (About 45 mins drive away - a good day out), Mt Cootha look out for sunrise/sunset, walk around the city park (or ride on E-Scooters which is more fun), Wet 'n' Wild Water Park (Near Gold Coast).

Hi, the Johnstone family, congratulations on your move to Australia 🐨🐨🐨 My name is Rachel and I emigrated from the UK 13 year's ago to Perth WA. I have been to Brisbane for a visit because I have friends who live there. I recommend going to the casino for a night out, or a date night. Not to gamble! But for dinner and drinks because it is really cheap, and the food in the restaurant is nice, and the entertainment was good. If you want to ask me anything about Oz, feel free to ask. Take care All the best Rachel Fitch 😊

You guys definitely should visit Redcliffe for the free pool (the lagoon) down on the water. Or for a walk over at Scarborough where there’s a fairy door built into one of the trees. Also has some of the best fish and chips in Aus and there’s a lot of parking and it’s all free.

It's so weird seeing somewhere I've been in a youtube video. Once Arora's a couple of years older you should definatly take her to the science museum, it gets smaller and smaller each year but it's still worth it

Springfield Orion has an amazing shopping centre and lagoon… From memory they also have markets on some weekends at Robelle Park at Springfield… Queens Park in Ipswich is a great day out as they have so much to do and they BBQ, Kiosk, Animals to look at and a walk in Bird Avery … Ipswich also has a Railway Museum and they do family days and Thomas the Tank Engine..

Good video! It’s been a few years since I lived in Brisbane - I’ve gone the other way to Reading. Most of my suggestions for things to do in the city are from pre-family life... Maybe a day out to Suncorp stadium for some sport or rugby (pandemic allowing). Not really what you asked for, but I’d suggest taking a beach trip down to the southern tip of the Gold Coast for the day: Coolangatta, Greenmount, Point Danger & Rainbow Bay. The beaches are smaller and more sheltered there.

I suggest you purchase a Gocard for each of you and then put credit on them which will allow you to travel without the need for cash to purchase single tickets. The card is valid and has no expiry date, so just tap on and off and top up your cards when the balance is low. You can travel by train to the Gold Coast and use it on the Light rail. Your daughter travels free so no need for a card. I live in Sydney and use the Gocard each time I visit.

Seeing as you are Northside too (we're in Warner) I suggest you also give Settlement Cove lagoon in Redcliffe a go. Not as nice but also free like Streets Beach on South Bank. A new free water park themed playground for younger kids has just opened up at the University of Sunshine Coast next to Petrie station

G’day , have a day trip to Stradbroke island , drive to Cleveland , park , you can get a ferry across to Dunwich then take bus to other side ( point look out ) cheap ish day out . Amazing views , sea as blue as the Great Barrier Reef . You can also stay for a long week end , get a Airbnb , take your car over , this would cost about a thousand dollars though , but really worth it .
@jonathont7866

you should visit lone pine in Brisbane - you'll get to feed kangaroos. Parking in the CBD is incredibly expensive but once you get onto the southside you can find street parking in and around southbank that's pretty cheap. The southbank carpark itself is cheaper than parking in the city but much more expensive than street parking. Also taking the city cat is a really cheap way to get a cruise of the river. Plenty of stopping points are right near restaurant precincts as well.

Southbank and surrounding area is my favourite place. Been fortunate to holiday three times in Brisbane and each time we've rented a home a short bus or train ride away. Getting too old for the long flights now, but would like to come back once more if possible. Hubby wants to see Queens Wharf when it's completed 😊 I can't believe we didn't know about Howard Smith Wharves, so I'd like to go there. Also been in the pool at Redcliffe. Prefer Southbank 😊 May I ask what Samantha's job is please. Happy exploring, Ross, Samantha & Aurora 💖 Ps. Sorry Ross. I'm just watching your 8 Months On video. Now know that Samantha is a Disability Support Worker 😊💖

I had no problem except when talking to someone with an accent, it did not matter what accent, immediately my brain would switch me into starting to use Americanisms and a twang, maybe your subconscious took over and because you are overseas from home you switched into American language mode lol.
