3 REASONS WHY TOTAL WAR ATTILA IS HIGHLY UNDERRATED

From the original Shogun to Total War Rome 2, to the highly anticipated Warhammer 3, there is no doubt in my mind that the Total War franchise is one of the best out there, giving strategy players unique and diverse ways to conquer the world in different time-periods while also providing a highly immersive battle experience.
But there is arguably one total war that is the most underrated. A game that did so many things so well but was largely swept under the rug, And that is, Attila Total War. It was a brilliant Total War game that deserved a lot more credit than it got and in this video I’m going to run through exactly why.
Hope you enjoyed the video guys and if you did give it a like and drop any thoughts or questions in the comments section below, and don’t forget to subscribe for more total war content, gameplay and news!

If Attila had the same post-launch support as Rome 2 it would currently be one of the most successful titles, in my opinion. This is why CA should never give up on a title.

Question is for Melkor AND Terminator. I have about 1,700+ hours into this title, and I can say it is fantastic. The mods are great and if your PC is decent, it runs just fine and looks amazing. 1212AD is by far one of the best achievements of the Total War moding community. Props to all involved. Do you think it is beyond CA to support this game now, all these years later? Or do you think that is a possibility for them to update and revisit?

Love it or hate it, Attila is still a masterpiece. It feels so satisfying to beat WRE campaign with so many hardshipa to endure. Defending your borders to the last from 2-3 full stacks of barbarian invaders, sacrifice your treasury and taxes to keep your cities happy and hoping not to rebel and so many hardships you need to defend your realm. my slavs campaign started with full fledged war on turn 5 or 6 with islamic conglomerate of vassals on the east, while the west suffered from hunns-- turn 15- message about erased western rome, turn 40- Bysantia fall, turn 75- scandinavians becomes eastern roman vassals, turn 90 hunns nevertheless slayed vikings... the europe fell theres nothing(!) between me and Ireland. turn 100- hunnic invasion. I ve got like 15 regions from eastern europe all the way to the Caspian sea. turn 115- I have 3 regions near Caspian see called great schytia everything other is scorched, what actually stopped the hunns more then military defeats....So now Caspian region is a "neighbour" for Ireland, since everything else was destroyed. afterwards I reached like 70 regions claiming all islamic territories and retrieving my destroyed regions but the game thinks I still can't win because I grew to big and haven't conquered west... While there's only desert there... So the campaign goals also succs.

I like ancient empires as well, but it definitely still has to be worked on as far as some of the minor factions. If I want to head into antiquity, I play Rome 2 just for the immersion. A similar setting in the future can be the Bronze Age collapse, maybe call it Total War: Apocalypse. The great empires had fallen and international trade was lost. Egypt was divided but surviving. Assyria and Babylon settled to protect their borders. The Hittites fractured into small states. The Sea Peoples rampages throughout the Mediterranean. Meanwhile, the Dorians pushed into Greece, and small tribal societies like Israel and Edom challenged the settled princes of Canaan for a home. It could recreate what Attila was while adding some new elements like perhaps grazing land if you're a nomadic faction, raids and skirmishes, rediscovery of lost knowledge, etc. This setting can be a spiritual successor to Troy as well.

Everything you said was correct. But I hate seeing my romans get pummeled. It’s almost being the uesugi clan in shogun 2. By the time you survived it has created so much stress that on a personal level I respect hard but not when it becomes more of chore than enjoyment

This is true, I never really considered it, but I really enjoyed britannica, however, Attila has that end game feeling, trying to hold the western roman empire together, whilst the diplomacy recks you along with the barbarians trying to constantly invade, and then... then Attila came, and I hadn't lost a single battle yet, I outnumbered them. But omg, they just come with their morale killing boosts and you're essentially just ruined O.o

Ngl i was on the QA team for this game when they were making it and other than the optimisation (and at this point standard launch of bugs for modern CA games) it’s best best modern historical TW game by far. It has so many mechanics and refinements that haven’t returned which is a massive shame
@albogypsy2842

Attila is one of my favourite TW games (and I played literally them ALL, starting with Shogun1). But not vanilla campaign, which has some terrible "mechanics" (auto-spawning Huns, winter is coming, ridiculous upgrades etc). Yet DLCs and mods are excellent.
@DrewlarkFun

those "terrible mechanics" were what was actually happening in europe and it is what makes the campaign one of survival rather than just a reskinned rome 2 which is what most total war games are.

playing attila rn. in Rome 2 you could just steamrolled everyone (most of the time). In attila with religion pace is slow,you need to rebuild cities (if different religion) from the ground,and its fun. AI still buffed with xyz stack but fun to play. (horses are fast and useful finally)

Some people think that Attila should have been an expansion for Rome 2 and a lot of their arguments are very solid, but the reason why i think this game not being an expansion was a good idea and why i lament the lack of support is the fact that it tackles a time period we may never see again in TW, not even on a potential Med 3. There were so many cool Dark/early middle ages scenarios left unexplored: the campaigns of Majoran and Heraclius, the rise of Islam, the fall of the Guptas, the English Heptharchy,etc.
@TheTerminatorGaming
@TheTerminatorGaming 2 года назад
Yeah, if a Medieval 3 does happen, I kind of hope it explores more of these areas in flashpoints of time the way 3K would have done. The map repainted, with different factions/units, etc. But agreed I don't think it would have worked as an expansion.

The old 'painting the map' is a tedious gameplay 'mechanic' that I started to dread. I wish CA would introduce a gameplay option that turns the game into a survival game. Try to keep your faction alive for as long as possible while dealing with other factions as well as random events like those in RimWorld. Ideally those events would also affect the other factions changing the outcome of every playthrough.

The reason I fear Huns is that you can't really defeat the Huns until Attila shows up in the battlefield in late game and kill him during battle. Other than that, every time you destory their army, next turn they just respawn more army out of nowhere, just around your cities, and combine with Tier3 units. And my army? They just finfished a bloody battle, need at least 4-6 turns to replenish.

I really loved the management and food aspect of the game. I was able to stabilize quite early in game as WRE, started reconquering everything I lost and then the campaign turned into: Push into new territories and every 3-5 turns fight 4 stacks of Huns in Illyria. Again and again, because AI non-stop spawning full stacks. Then I turned the game off, because it was without any joy, doing the same thing over and over again.
@dronred8817

you need to check playthrough for that part. theres a tricky task there you need to do. On average you ll need to destroy 10 stacks to catch the mission. you need to catch the stack with attla 2 times and injure him, if I'm not mistaken.
