I remember playing Quake or Unreal Tournament 99 Capture the Flag without bots to get a feel of the map. That first game on this video was like a fear I had while playing all alone! Sometimes my mind goes insane that I'm pretty sure I saw some movements within the maps!

Fun fact: I downloaded No players online without reading into it at all. I just saw Markiplier mention it and I liked it. 5 seconds after installing it launched on its own, and I couldn't quit the game. I shut my computer down and turned it on, and the VHS tape remained on my screen. Scary times.. I remember it just like it was 20 mins ago. (Since my computer is a touch screen, I found a way to get to task manager to stop the program. I deleted it..... It won't pop up on my computer in the morning, right?)

That’s scary dude, that would freak me out, I had a dream of I downloaded sonic.exe( shut up) and I played all the way through. That scary devil message thing at the end would not close but I was somehow able to shut down my computer. I booted it up again and was forced to replay the game.... THANK GODDINESS IT WAS JUST A DREAM! That dream freaked the muffins out of me.

I like to call this the "Russian Sleep Experiment Problem" after that copypasta. You've got a great atmosphere, very scary and suspenseful and mysterious, and then, out of nowhere, someone shows up and explains everything to you in a monologue, completely ruining any tension or mystery and shattering your suspension of disbelief.

The first game genuinely captures what it feels like to be in a lobby while waiting for players or just loading up a local match with no other players or bots. Say for instance loading up nuketown in black ops or some other small map or a map with lots of corners in another game, it's surprisingly eerie to walk around those maps knowing that there shouldn't be anyone else around but sometime you get that feeling that something is watching, either that or it's just me Edit: fixing up some grammar mistakes, and never thought this comment would get this much attention

Anonymous_Buddha so basically the gun has a different amount of bullets in each clip. When you count the amount in each clip and put it together, and you are given a phone number.

On second game I liked how he went from shovel to flamethrower he found in the woods. No pistol, no shotgun/SMG, just straight to flamethrower. Also he could easily outrun birds. Didn't even need to swing a single shovel.

i feel like "No Players Online" would be a bit more effective if you actually had to fight the developer over the last flag point, quake 3 style, and he was legitimately very challenging.

Fun Fact: Mark's diagonal strafing strategy in the second game, (the Doom-style one,) is also a speedrunning tactic for the original Doom games. The reason it works is because the way the games are coded doesn't compensate for diagonal movement, so when you move diagonally, it uses the speed of the character moving forward and the speed moving to the side at the same time.

You know honestly, that No Players Online really did make me think about the old Halo: CE and 2 maps. I remember being a kid and having played on those multiplayer maps ALONE just looking around, and the background sounds and the atmosphere is just unsettling... it really does feel like you’re looking over your shoulder and such. I loved how this really captured it.
