I've always stored my fabrics in storage boxes, but done so by color, prints, stripes, florals, etc. Not any more! Your way of storing by yard, half yard, scraps is great. I especially love the way you fold them and store them. I've always laid them flat on top of one another and it's hard to see some in the middle, thus having to take them all out. Thank you for this video. Going to redo my fabrics using this method. 😀
I have tried several methods for storing my fabric stash. Over the years, I have re-used plastic spinach containers folding the fabric standing it up which is same as your system. I love being able to see what you have so continue to use for some fabrics. I also use comic boards for storing the fabric in my cupboard. I also use the filing system in one bin. For the fabric (and clothes) stored in drawers the stand up method works best. If I can find the containers that will fit my shelves I will switch again. Thank you so much for such an informative video!
Love those containers - especially the one with the two drawers. Thank you for the suggestions on making the precuts out of the scraps. I donate the smaller stuff to my local senior center or nursing home for crafts.
Thanks so much Louise! I would like to think I channeled a little of her wisdom in this video. I just started talking and it came out. Not planned at all 🤣
Stacey, this is a wonderful video! Your folding and storage suggestions are very helpful. I love the idea of organizing your scraps into pre-cut sizes so that they are ready to go in a project. Thank you so much! ❤😊
Funny I am doing what you are doing with my fabric. I am getting on in years(89) so I thought I would make a start on organising my fabric by cutting it into different sizes. Regards from New Zealand.
I love that you fold Marie Kondo style, I've been doing our clothes that way. I have stashed all over the house and you've given me ideas to corral them into more organized chaos, because we do love our bits of fabric, don't we? Happy new year
Wonderful! Now you can do it with your fabric, honestly so much easier, especially if you fold the fabric so it's chunky! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment ☺️
i've spent my time off over the break organising my craft supplies. they were out of control. thanks for these tips!! when you were like please excuse the mess I was like uhhhhh you should see my craft room 😅
Oh, bless your heart! I am in the process of going thru my many years collection of bits, pieces, chunks and odds and ends of fabric. My next stage is the scraps and little pieces of fabrics I too really loved. This has helped me so much. Thank you!
Stacey, A Huge Thank You for this idea; I was storing all fabric in plastic totes which were not clear and made it hard to see choices. I am new to your channel and already a Huge Fan. ❤
Love your use of clear boxes. I am the type that if I don’t see it, I forget I have it. 😂 I really loved how you fold it up to fit in the boxes. I am going to adopt it for my fabric storage. Thank you!
This video has been so helpful, thank you Stacey. I love how you fold your fabrics and how neatly they fit in those lovely stacking storage boxes, fingers crossed I can find similar here in the UK. Happy New Year. 😊
Every year I struggle with how I should revamp my fabric storage & this video has given me some wonderful ideas. Even though I always use the "Leader & Ender" method of making another quilt while working on the main one, scrap management has become overwhelming at times. THANKS for your Reality Check (because I'm in the "no scrap left behind club"--LOL). Very helpful!
The harder that I try to get and stay organized, the worse it sometimes gets, particularly after working on a couple of related projects-e.g., pillows or hanging towels. I have always been so organized, but I am now having trouble staying organized. The plastic boxes (even though I hate to buy plastic because of the environmental issues) seem like something that would really help me, Stacey. Thanks for the organized and thoughtful video. I will try this! I have tried placing all scraps of the same or coordinating colors in huge ziplock bags. They aren’t in a precut mode, though. I think that I would use them more readily if I would adhere to your plan. Thanks again! Pat Berne
Great info, thank you. I think your method would work for me too. I was thinking about the comic boards but knew there was a reason I didn’t go down that rabbit hole. I have to agree that remolding around the board and pinning, probably would not happen on a regular basis. But doing an easy fold and putting it in a drawer sounds easy enough to maintain. Thanks for the tips.
I was being polite in the video - comic books were a disaster for me 😅 It wasn't just a simple fold, it can take a few goes to get it wrapped around the board nicely too. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment ☺️
I make doll clothes so scraps are what I use. I buy the left over fabric that fabric stores have marked down or 1/4 yard strips. I design my own patterns. So I never know what scrape piece of fabric I might need or can use in a project. I think I can use a couple of your storage options, I like the idea of using clear bins.
Have been doing the same method but without the clear containers... As for scraps, I place all similar colors together then pair them with an opposite color for ease on my eyes (red scraps with green ones, blue with orange, etc.) then put them in a big Ziploc bags. You're right though- if they suddenly disappeared I don't think I'd miss them... And when you have something to make isn't it way more fun to go shopping for fabric than to check the stash?
She said she got the little cards from Hobby Lobby. They have a large selection of card sizes and tags. Or you could cut your own OR swap some fabric scraps with a card making friend for paper scraps. You could sew the fabric to the card or try wonder under .
@@staceyleecreativespray painting that would be the fastest results. Either way the work involved in that would turn me away from the idea and use the stunning fabric as color! After all, with the clear storage and your fabric could be the focal point!
I Love your videos, but I do have one small suggestion. I have diagnosed obsessive-compulsive disorder, and it’s often misrepresented, as it was here. OCD is not just a preference for tidiness. It can be, certainly. It’s a disorder that often impairs someone’s abilities to lead a peaceful or even functional life. Mine has nothing to do with tidiness. Usually it’s also preceded by intrusive thoughts that are unwanted and contrary to one’s values. For me, it has been harrowing and life-altering and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. So when I hear someone toss it sound like it’s just a quirk, I feel like I need to say something. Please continue making these videos, just without making light of something so difficult.
Thank you for supporting my videos. Apologies it sounded if I was making light of OCD, for me it's not about being tidy, but a genuine issue where things can't touch each other. My husband has diagnosed OCD, so we sympathise. I really just try to keep my videos as light as possible, so it was unintentional to offend anyone 🙏
People are so dang sensitive these days. Every feels the need to control other’s speech because they got offended. OMGoodness can we all just be individuals without outside control, opinions, emotional manipulation and freakin’ guilt trips. She does a good job here and no one knows if there is a situation… people just jump to the offense unnecessarily. So over it. Thanks for sharing with us and my apologies that you have to deal with this crap!
So many things. You can make any project with them. Just sew the strips together until you have a piece the size you need for your project. Or you can make a whole quilt like this one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_1HiCJpLe9s.html
