Folding fabric on card stock is not everyone's cup of tea, but I personally love this method. Please share in the comments your favorite way to keep and use your fat quarter collection. Mine was an out of control mess, so having it organized Marie Kondo style in the drawer makes me super happy.

I am currently packing my space downstairs for a renovation of our walkout basement; it's going to me my 'dream' space, eventually. I purchased the acid-free comic book boards and aligator clips, and will be rolling and folding my yardage as I unpack, when we're finished with the reno. Your idea for the fat quarters makes me happy...most likely will be utilizing this method, too. thank you!

Thank you Veda! It takes a little time to cut down the comic book cards in the beginning, but it's so worth it. You can size your cards how ever you like them, but I like the presentation I did for this video. And I love, love, love how I can finally see everything I have in my fabric collection! It takes more space than simple folding, but that is a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

Love this, Patty, for many of the same reasons I like your new organization system for your larger fabric: easy to see at a glance, easy to manipulate, and easy return to its place. And I think I'd be more apt to start a project when I don't have to pull out a box, rifle through it, and then refold the contents to put it away. Did I mention how easy this system is to use!?! 😊. Thank you so much Cheryl! I can honestly say that this keeps my stash tidy no mater how much I remove and replace fabrics. It's been a huge help for me and I can see everything. I does take more room but I'm willing to make the sacrifice in order to have a neater setup and be able to easily review and test fabrics for blocks.

I don't think there is a lot to do in terms or organizing leftovers from open charm and layer cake packs. I think the best thing to do there I use them up in a project. I have my fat quarters in an IKEA trofast (tower) unit that we’ve had for years. It is no longer needed for toys but makes the perfect storage for my fat quarters. I have 4 of the smaller drawers where the quarters are folded, in colours and displayed just as yours are and, the drawers are light enough to easily remove and put side by side to see all of the fabrics. I have one of the large drawers at the bottom of the unit where I keep my scraps (and as it’s the tower unit it doesn’t take up much space). My youngest granddaughter loves having the drawers out so that she can easily see and select fabric for projects like her bean bag cover I am making 😀

Great idea! Thanks for sharing. Love organizing tips! I have been folding my fqs to fit the height of a box I use, I’ll definitely use this tip. Card stock is awesome, it can be used in so many ways. Those fqs look great having some structure. I think it’ll also work wonderfully for larger scraps that are too small for a full sized board. Also love the alligator clips tip. Not sure if I missed the link for the clips. Those will be great. I’ve been using tape. I also always add a scrap of paper to each mini bolt with the measurements & initials of its brand/line or store. Did you get your storage drawer set at an IKEA? I remember you mentioning in a previous video that you’ve had it for years. Wonder if it’s still available. Always nice to see your videos. Hope you have a great holiday weekend. Blessed be.

Thank you! I It feels wonderful to be back!! The cart is from Origami and I picked it up on HSN. They have them on sale with free shipping on a regular basis, so I would look for it there. I love it and there are a few videos on the channel that show it in more detail. Stacking in the box is a great idea! I have a couple of pretty, empty boxes I wondered what to do with so that's a good idea. I wrapped some larger scraps on the same size boards and it's keeping things nice and organized for me. I'll look for the clips again, I know I linked them in my blog post so I'll grab the link from there and put it here. Have a wonderful holiday!! I love the 4th!

@PattymacMakes
@PattymacMakes 2 года назад
I don't have all that many charm packs on hand, so I just put them in the drawer with my fat quarters. About the only thing you can do is stack them on a shelf. Which you're probably already doing. Or store them in a container you can put away until you need something special. Other than that I don't know what else you could really do. I'm sorry I don't have any better ideas for them! Someone might read your question and have a more helpful suggestion.

I don't have any fat quarters. I'm deprived. 😭 Actually, I've avoided FQ's because of the cost; but your explanation of why you love FQ's was good information. Must increase my quilting/fabric budget for next year. This year ... well, I'll just borrow from some other budget item. HAHA
@PattymacMakes
@PattymacMakes 2 года назад
I love them and you get a lot of fabric in a bundle even if an individual piece is smallish. If you have 32 fat quarters in a bundle, divide by 4 and it's 8 yards of fabric, which is a LOT. You still need some coordinating yardage for borders or sashing....but a FQ bundle can actually provide quite a LOT of fabric to play with. And for making quilt blocks, it's easier than buying yardage. I think anyway, but honestly, it's a preference more than "the right way to do it." I'm sharing things I like on the channel to give others ideas or get them to think about things in new ways. But if it's not appealing to you, please don't think it's something you have to do!! And you can cut your own FQs. I'll do an upcoming video on that, too!

I have a question : The storage pre-cut fabric is for only quilting geometric patchwork ? because when we make patchwork appliqué or patchwork landscape etc... we need larger fabric. So we don't have enough fabric dimension for doing that if we pre-cut it. What do you think about it ?
@PattymacMakes
@PattymacMakes Год назад
I use mine for mostly quilting patterns and also for small bags, napkins, placemats, pillows etc. I have not worked with applique or patchwork landscape type of projects, but I could see that you might need larger cuts of fabric. I appreciate your suggestion, but I love my squares! The great thing is that we can personalize all of these things to suit our own preferences. I think of my videos as guidelines and not definitive answers. It's more about "here's how I've been doing xyz and I'm sharing because I think it might be helplful" than "this is the one proper way to xyz and it's the only way." We have enough hard and fast rules in quilting and sewing, and life for that matter, so having some options for creative freedom is important. But I always enjoy hearing what works for others! Oh Darlene!! LOL!! Well I had a bunch of car trouble to work through and wound selling a vehicle and other stuff. I'm still working on that list of stuff I've needed to do if you can believe it. And mom starts doctors appointments again this week. I do have an outline of what I want to do next and I''m so excited to get back to work on it. I should be able to film week though.

You are welcome to create your own videos any time. If you don't like the style of one, please go on to something else. Or better yet, make your own and see how easy it is to run your own channel. Enjoy!
