I have dry & sensitive skin. My skin easily get very dry & irritated. So, i have been using a gentle cleanser with niacinamide (double cleansing at night) then hydrating toner then serum for skin barrier that contains panthenol 5% and mugwort +cica. It really helps a lot. My skin feel moistured & soothed, not easily dried out or freaking out.😊
@@SpiritualAwakening11T i'm sorry for late reply. I'm afraid that the brands i used are not available in your place😢 cause i used local brands.😅 But, if you do have dry & sensitive skin like me, i recommend you to find any skincare item that are both gentle & hydrating (thus i choose cleansing cream & toner with aloe and serum with hydrating & soothing ingredients) with NO fragrance & alcohol or other potentially irritant ingredients.
When my skin barrier was broken. The signs were a bit different. I have a normal to oily skin type. But when my skin barrier was broken, there was overproduction of oil. Around 15 minutes after washing my face and you may want to scrape the oil off to cook some egg. The redness was also around my nose since I don't have any facial rosacea. But the breakout was horrible. My last biggest pimple is just 1 day old, then I would start growing 10 new pimples. It was also hard to go out on a sunny day because I can easily feel the heat penetrating through my skin and my skin was starting to thin as if I am losing elasticity. I did the following to fix my skin barrier: 1. I stopped using facial washes and started using Johnson's baby milk bath on my face instead. I've heard that a lactic acid based skin products work better. 2. I stopped cleansing during the day. I only cleansed at night and only washed my face with nothing but water during the day and every time I was feeling oily or sticky. 3. I started using sunscreen. SPF 50 PA+++ 4. I stopped using anything else on my face except for what was mentioned above. Conclusion. My skin barrier was fully restored in less than a month. The first time I noticed a great change was only within 3 days where my oiliness would start 2 hours after I washed my face and my breakouts also lessened. In 1 week, my breakouts were heavily reduced, the redness around my nose was also completely gone. I continued doing so and my skin started to become supple and hydrated instead of the usual oily but cracking. In less than a month, I stopped having breakouts and would only have 1 or 2 pimples at a time. I also started experiencing having days with no pimples. Skin care for some people may actually mean less is better. So if you think you've tried so many things yet nothing worked. Then try doing almost nothing.
@@MsLouisVee I was not using SPF when I had a damaged skin barrier. Using sunblock has helped my skin a lot especially because I live in a tropical country. Also, the sunscreen I'm using is light, dewy, and has no whitecast. If you live in a tropical country, SPF is your best friend in helping your skin barrier.
I went through the exact same thing last month but I didn’t suspect that it’s due to my skin barrier since my skin didn’t feel flaky or dry.. this went on for like 3 weeks I’d get a few cystic pimples per day and my highest count was 12 active pimples at one go! I knew this is not normal so I cut out everything (sugary food, dairy, vitamins) and stopped using actives. A few days later, no new acne, and my the current ones are healing nicely.
I have 2-3 acne every time only on my chin and it’s really annoying, so I’m not sure if I need to change my skin care products specifically for my chin which kinda hard
I’m going to try. Accidentally applied my retinol too much at first. Oops 🙊 Now I have little white dots(whiteheads, probably) all over my chin. Not too bad, though.
I think my skin is purging due to Niacinamide should i continue using or stop? I'm currently using Dr rashel Alpha arbutin &Niacinamide serum, hyaluronic acid and a ceramide serum.
Perfect timing. This is exactly what I’m going through right now. Can u recommend a moisturizer? Should I discontinue tretinoin during this time? Can u talk about why our skin barrier is damaged / broken so we can prevent it? Love ur content n thank u.
I don't have any qualifications, but you should definitely consult the one who prescribed you tretinoin. You may opt for a lower % concentration, or do alternate days with tretinoin. I would suggest stopping ALL actives, this includes any exfoliants such as salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, or just any acid in general. Discontinue use of niacinamide, vitamin c, or any serum that doesn't focus solely on soothing and hydration. Use a very gentle/mild cleanser, soothing hydrating toner/serum/essence, and thick moisturiser with ceramides or hyaluronic acid. I recommend the Cosrx snail mucin moisturiser.
@@hoome260 sorry, please ignore the part where I said to avoid niacinamide. It’s fine but opt for lower concentrations around 5% or have it mixed in a moisturiser is fine
I have acne and I tried different products to lessen it. I tried retinol, but damn that was the worst decision ever. They said it will become worse before it gets better. But I only got the worst part. Im having pimples on my hair line, jaw and chin area which I dont usually have. I used it for about 3 months then stopped. After a month of stopping retinol my skin keeps on getting worse. After washing my face it feels very dry and very very itchy. My face is super red. Then I decided to go to a dermatologist. She said my skin barrier is broken and the first thing she addresed is the itching and redness. She asked me to drop everything that Im using. She made a skincare routine for me, from facial wash to the serum that I will be using. And only after a week the itchiness and redness subsided 😊 (Cica serums indeed calmed by irritated skin). Im still having acne that's why she decided to put me on accutane. It was a big decision for me and it helped a lot on my acne. And im on my 3rd month now 😊.
@@hetvidave If you recently started using acids or retinols and found yourself breaking out or getting stinging sensation from your products, it's likely you have a damaged skin barrier
@@jarryllsm yes I used 2% salicylic acid based face wash and I am getting even more acne. My breakout reduces if I don't use any product n wash using only water. But there is a lot of post acne marks.
Oiliness is not equal to skin barrier. I've made a comment on my experience with this. I'll copy paste it here. When my skin barrier was broken. The signs were a bit different. You're skin is already irritated. You're not supposed to wear make up over it. Visit your derma, I've had bad allergies before and my doctor told me to take antihistamines (loratadine bethametazone) 2x a day for a week then just once for 1 more week. If it's really bad, your doctor may also prescribe a very mild corticosteroid cream. But visit your derma first so that your doctor can see what's really happening to your skin.
@@alreytan5351 yes I visited dermatologist She prescribed me with Corticosteroid cream . When I use that cream for few days . Eczema disappears. Problem is it flares up again and again .. 🥺🥺
I have super oily skin but for some reason gentle cleanser doesn't really works for me, it just makes my skin so prone to acne even more😭 Ps: i never skip moisturizer and also i work in a very hot environment so i think that's the reason😭
