Thanks for this video. The explanation was very clear and precise!!! Are there any advantages and disadvantages of each method to calculate the Year On Year growth?
Thanks for your feedback @Deepak. Well as all of the methods can be used at based on the requirement. First method is the simplest one and can only be used for YOY growth only. where as 2nd and third methods can be used if you need to find variance or growth between other factors like MOM, Quarter on Quarter. Third once specifically can be used to just find growth between any 2 rows in the table using lookup function. Hope that helps. Note: As all these methods are using table calculation, it can have impact on the performance if the data set is too big. In that case its ideal to do growth cals in the backend.
Lookup function is used to look up the value in the dataset. If there is no value then we can’t look up for that value. In this scenario if jan and feb has no data and is show by zero value then u can still look up for those values. Hope that helps
Look up function is a bit different to Date ADD as lookup function works are row level and returns the value of the expression in a target row. You can check out more details about look up function using below tableau link: help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/functions_functions_tablecalculation.htm#lookupexpression-offset
