The Counter Trey Run Concept is slowly taking over the Spread Offense. And with good reason. It forces defenses to account for two extra gaps, it forces linebackers to trust their keys, and it allows the offense to be a power team without bringing in tight ends.
So today I'm going to cover 3 ways to run the Counter Trey Run scheme...and how you can implement it today and get results.

Today on offensive breakdown, I break down NFL schemes that get covered by the likes of QB School and Brett Kollmann. That’s right, the spread offensive breakdown is seen in NFL offenses and are covered by the QB School and Brett Kollmann
Not NFL Offense, But brett kollmann breaks down NFL game film and offensives. This QB School like offensive breakdown goes deep into the NFL spread concepts and how high school football can use NFL style plays covered by brett kollmann and QB School

We never used tightends or H backs until we had four develop on in our system. We have one national recruit and one D1 offered juniors, one senior who is as good as both of them and another who is playing Defense for us right now. Its is crazy how much having a kid like that opens up our offense. These kids are good enough to line up at X or Z and produce and can block as well as our tackles.

Oh you showed the QB example at the end lol. But there’s a coach name Marc Morris in SC and this is his main running plays….Literally!!! He’s been running this for the last 15 years if I’m not mistaken (they beat us with these same 3 plays when I was playing RB)

Hey Coach huge fan.. have watched your videos from oldest to newest. Great content. Is there a specific reason why you switched from Pin and Pull to Counter? Which run would you suggest in the Air Raid Offense.. We have currently have draw and inside zone ... looking to add one more but cant decide from pin and pull or counter.. Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks Coach Eli

The "Counter" in this play mainly comes from how it was originally run out of the I formation. The problem was coming up with a play that went away from the FB. Power, Iso, Toss, FB trap/belly could all be defended if you keyed the FB. Now with one back and using H/TE in the scheme blur the counter part of it. The TB action doesn't offer any counter action. You can also run this play with the back on the same side.

I like to motion the H, down block the OL and kick with the H. Then we will Counter Trey off the same motion. It also sets up play action nicely, especially a waggle when the H motions to a TE and both run crossers at different depths.

That's a nasty adjustment. And I bet the defense hated that play.

@@CoachMcKie Yep. When conceiving this, I stole a little from Tiger Ellison and a little from Joe Gibbs. 😂

Have you tried blocking counter but letting the QB run behind the counter blocking?

Love the counter and this video. I am just not sure what hating inside zone has to do with it.

Hey coach, where are you coaching at now?

I like how you have your back take their track right up the center's butt. I thought I was the only one. On our sweep plays we tell our backs to stay fast and flat and do not allow them to turn up field until the hit the bottom of the numbers.

A coach I️ played against been running this for years. This is his main running play. He’ll like Lincoln Riley or he’ll run it like how the ravens do with lamar Jackson

Are counters no longer when the RB starts one way then bucks back the other way like in Madden?
@CoachMcKie

We call that counter dart.

I don't understand why the first plays are counter. What makes it counter? It looks like down, down, kick ...or long trap. I get the QB counter, because the run is counter to the sweep motion. But the first two I wouldn't say are counter. If you run the same plays out of pistol it is a counter if the back comes down hill to the QBs right and then bends his track to the left and follows the pulling Guard/Tackle to the left.

Do you see a lot of stack? If so, how do you block it up?
@CoachMcKie

We don't but if we do then we keep the rules the same. Rules over people.

@@CoachMcKie got ya. CTR is our best play. We run all varieties. Stack always gives us a little trouble though. Just wanted to see if you did anything different. Appreciate it. Have a good day!

@@justindueppengiesser6054 we found with gap schemes against any defense where LB fills and stunts are a threat to be vigilant in staying on our tracks. You may not get the combo blocks you want. A 3-3 can turn into a 4-2 very quickly.
