Ice climbing in Hemsedal? If you are looking for climbing some of the beautiful ice climbing routes in the Norway, then this is the right video for you! Because I would like to show you three fantastic routes in Hemsedal that I can highy recommend. Tuvfossen and Murekløve are located in the Grøndalen valley, while Ta Steget is in Hemsedal center
And I will be creating separate ice climbing videos for each of these ice climbing routes too, so remember to subscribe to the channel to be notified when they are released!
MUREKLØVE
Murekløve in the Grøndalen valley is a great warm up for your ice climbing trip to Hemsedal. Murekløve is around 150 meters long and can be ice climbed in three long pitches. You will find Murekløve by driven about 2 kilometers into the Grøndalen valley from Hemsedal
Park at the small parking lot to you left an hike up through the forest. The coordinates are: 60°53'50.6"N 8°26'51.8"E.
And it might be worthwhile bringing snowshoes. I would say that generally for Hemseldal it is a good idea to bring snowshoes as there could be some tough approaches in fresh, deep snow.
TUVFOSSEN
You should also ice climb Tuvfossen! This is one of the ice climbing classics in Hemsedal. Tuvfossen is rather short though and only about 70 meters and can be ice climbed in two pitches. But based on the variation you choose Tuvfossen can be steep the whole way ranging from WI4+ to WI5.
You approach Tuvfossen by driving 5 km into the Grøndalen valley and park near the dumpsters to your left. The coordinates are 60°54'44.5"N 8°26'06.0"E.
Ski or hike along the cross-country track back towards Hemsedal for about a kilometer, and you will soon see the Tuvfossen to your right. Hike or ski up through the forest, when you are directly below Tuvfossen
But there are loads of great climbs in the Grøndalen valley west of Hemsedal. Here you will also find Snusveggen, Nystølfossen, World Cup isen and Vøllakula
TA STEGET
The final climb in this ice climbing video is a mixed climbing route at WI4 M4. Ta Steget follows a prominent chimney and is 80 meters long and can be climbed in two or three pitches.
You will find Ta Steget by hiking up from Hemsedal via the Kyrkjebønsvegen road until you start seeing signs leading to Steget. Follow the trail uphill until you see the amazing Kyrkjebønsstølsfossen icefall to you right. Ta Steget is just right of that
And while there why not also climb one of the WI4 or WI4+ lines on Kyrkjebønsstølsfossen?

Thanks again Cragcloud. The conditions look reliable and steady. Not like here in Scotland. Just back from Ben Nevis. Spent three days waiting on the storm to pass. Got no winter climbs done. Sat about for three days drinking beer watching weather reports, hoping for a break in the weather. Had a climb at the indoor ice climbing fridge at Kinlochleven to try and satisfy our desire to climb. Oh well.....just need to go back again 😆👍🗻

Haha, well, drinking beers three days in a row isn’t that bad, but I would rather go climbing too 🤣 But, I feel your pain of not being able to climb. Hope things turn on Ben Nevis. From reports on various Facebook groups it seems like conditions almost change almost daily up there 😕 I’ve only been to Cairngorms climbing other an extended weekend once, but would like to go back 😄

@@Cragcloud well if you're ever back climbing in Scotland give me a shout. I'm certainly no professional climber but I know Scotland like the back of my hand and could offer you a climbing partner👍
