So awesome. We were just gifted the VE from the infamous RC Elf. I never thought I’d ever own such a beast. These are truly the ultimate monster trucks
man what an animal this truck is when it works! mine is here but it's still in the box. so according to the title this is the full rebuild with the hardened metal gears correct? also you replaced needle bearings? seems like with gears new bearings and a good lube this truck does what we all expected it to out of the box. excellent run footage!!
Cheers! - it indeed rips and is a joy to run when it's working. This was still with the plastic/nylon gears, the metal gears should be arriving in the next week or so (coming from China). I didn't replace the needle bearings themselves, but I replaced the entire part that contained the needle bearing, which is the 2 speed cam and the 1st gear needle bearing. Now I've seen that you can press out the needle bearing and press in a replacement for a few bucks if you have a small bearing press, which I plan to buy
@@TurokRC you are basically the only guy out there besides R G doing videos on this truck and its "issues" so for us owners these videos of you getting it to work right mean a lot. they will allow rest of us to get the thing to run like it should, keep those updates flowing man we're watching! CHEERS!
More than happy to help - That's what the RC community is all about! I will definitely keep the updates coming, especially the metal gear installation !
the old fox and mad force uses a better shaft. way harder. just made a comparison video about them ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r_GyfmwQXtg.html
Thanks for the updates on the truck. I've been holding off on break in waiting to see how you resolve the trans issue before I have my own problems. It looks like taking it apart and lubing the needle bearings before I break it in is going to be the way to go. I'll hold off on the metal gears until I need them. Thanks again. This is great stuff.
Well, tried mine with new vxb one way bearings and a hardened shaft. Didn't set up third gear. So it was working wonderfully, shifting from 1st to 2nd no issues. So fast! And then POOF, the first gear one way let go! Not sure if this design can withstand harder driving full speed on jumps, bumps, dirt and such. And it's 29 f out here with light snow. Didn't even make a tank full. Bummer. One speed for me might be the only viable option. I'll probably choose a great ratio that splits the diff BTW 1st and 2nd. I can't keep working on this trans and spending money. I'd also imagine a 8mm shaft with larger 8mm ID one ways would be helpful too. Alas..
Ah sorry to hear! Did you lube the bearings up? I have the kyosho one way bearing grease but so far I've run 5 tanks through trouble free after using liquid wrench white lithium Grease spray in the needle bearings. I think servicing it to lube it every 10 tanks might be needed. Surprisingly my 2nd and 3rd gears are still shifting fine despite the cam looking worn inside...I suppose the metal pin in there is doing its job this time....wasn't on one of my precious gears
@@TurokRC ok looking further in the warm house all dried off I now see my first gear spur stripped! One way is ok! Ok, so mesh is ok. Not sure what else to do now. I suppose even tighter mesh?
Nice to see the truck back I had the original 20+ years ago, gs engine was crap so installed a race nova Rossi that was interesting ! Shame the reliability of kyosho components still haunts them as the hpi savage x 4.6 is around the same price range and those things are pretty indestructible as that’s what I run now also this new USA looks to bouncy over the bumps can’t see it being much of a jumper like the savage is
I primarily got this for the 3 speed lol, I love hearing it shift and sadly HPi doesn't make the 3 speed savage XL anymore....if they bring it back I'd definitely buy it. The USA 1 has a very stiff suspension but the articulation is great. I was thinking of putting some lower viscosity shock oil in to soften it up a bit
What parts did u buy to fix? I'd like to do it before I even try to break it in? Does anyone know is there metal Spur Gears for this yet and better bearings if so anyone have a link
I replaced pretty much every part in the transmission except for the shaft. There are full metal gears available - I ordered a set and will do an installation and test video.
@@TurokRC so I looked up all the sizes of the bearings what do you think about me replace them with fast Eddie ceramic bearings do you think that will help
@@kennybowers7607 I used that at first but my bearing failed. Now I'm using liquid wrench lithium Grease spray and it's been shifting great. There's also the kyosho one way bearing Grease
@@TurokRC thought so being clear I got a gallon of it I got some Byron's left I got eight quarts or 30% bones Brew I'm going to try that bones Brew break in on three of my new cars but you can't go wrong with VP
