Steve Lynch is a treasure of humanity His REH vid is awesome...the part in which he plays the incredible piece in tapping than ends it with "OK..." is pure gold
hey man do you still have a copy of the reh video? ive been searching for it for days! I would love to purchase it from you if you or anyone you know still holds a copy
Hey gang! Before anyone rips me a new one for the guitar/image that goes with this lesson, keep in mind that I couldn't find a good quality photo of Steve's classic Jackson, so I literally made the image myself and had to improvise while making it, so while it's not quite right, it's close. I finished it using MS Paint of all things (LOL). Anyway, it was the best I could come up with for this one, so be nice! : )
I appreciate the attempt at keeping the aesthetic of the signature guitar and artist going for these videos. When I started playing in the 80's, the personalized gear was massively important to which artists I emulated. Thus my decades love of Jackson/Charvels, Kramers, BC Riches and Hamers over the less customized Fender& Gibsons.
Your attention to detail in general is well appreciated. For me that's only important in your playing and teaching, and just being an all around good person. But the rest is fun and a nice touch. Thanks for all you do. ^-^
I literally clicked this video because of that image. 😂 It's quite similar to the pattern I spray painted on my first electric guitar when I was a kid. Found the spray can in the gutter, it was a yellow industrial road marking spray paint used by the council, went on about 1mm thick. Good memories. Love these tapping runs, they instantly reminded me of the title music to LED Storm on the Commodore Amiga by Tim Follin. I've often wondered how to play this kind of thing on the guitar, so thanks for sharing 👍.
I met Steve several years ago and he is a super cool nice guy and let the truth be known that he’s the one that originally started the Fretboard tapping.. Eddie just made it more popular. Love Autograph.im glad you mentioned the tapping story. VH asked him not to tap when they opened loo
I had to re-create Steve's solo for 'Turn up the Radio' for a client a few years ago and it was one of the hardest solos I've ever had to copy. As for people saying he just copied Eddie 'cos he did taping..no..he certainly had his own thing going on with that technique. For sure. I think I still have his VHS somewhere at my folks house! It was waay beyond me back then...
Steve was teaching in the Seattle area some years ago. He taught a friend of mine to shred. He had some really interesting stories about the music business and they weren’t all positive.
Steve used to live in my neighborhood here in a Seattle suburb. He moved to Florida a few years ago. I got to chat with him several times, and he was incredibly nice and generous with his time.
Great video David!.. The little bit that i know and heard of Autograph the band, the lead player just seemed so natural and good at tapping on his leads, some of the smoothest and best tapping around, keep up the great work we all appreciate it... PS... I like how you always change the background picture frame on the wall to match the band/guitar player in the lesson lol
I took a five hour crash course on Rock, 50 pages plus five 60 minute Cassettes Queen Anne " Seattle WA " 1996. Steve is super 👌 highly knowledgeable and I learned more about playing then community College
Hi David, I love your channel. I watch your lessons from Australia, I was wondering if you could possibly do a lesson on Jay Jay French licks from Twisted Sister.
I think I could be number 1 at last 😂 Bugger X. Alexander beat me to it ! Cracking stuff though . Pointy headstock guitar , grainy video , poodle hair and a wife beater ~ I’m in heaven 👍🇬🇧
Jimi Bell is currently the guitarist in Autograph. He was handpicked by Steve Lynch. Jimi is an insane shredder in his own right and tried out for Ozzy in 1987. Apparently Ozzy favored Jimi over Zakk but Sharon was against it because Jimi looked too much like Tony Iommi (long black hair and played an SG left handed). He's worth checking out on RU-vid.
I heard Jennifer Batten ,learned to tap,got some ideas ,from Steve ,not Eddie,I have the video, and he is very inventive ,the solo he plays ,is very creative ,and uses all the fingers on both hands.
Thanks for the warning at the end! I could never make the mistake of confusing the two Lynch boys. I am an absolute disciple of George Lynch. I only know if one bigger fan than myself and that’s Jay Parmar. He has many vids in the subject. Thanks again
Just saw Autograph her in Louisiana. None of the original group, but was the best band there! Jimi Bell was the guitar player, and was so awesome, so smooth. To me, it was the best version of Autograph to date.
Not to go off topic but... I’ve been working on some Randy solos and honestly the tapping is the easiest part...its those super fast, lightning quick picked lead runs that trip me up...similar to Eruption...the tapping is the easy part...rock on my brother!!!
Try as I may I can't tap. I know that mechanics of the hand....but I feel like there is something about either my guitar setup or signal chain that is incompatible....David can you expound on what to and not to do to minimize noise and simultaneously get the volume needed? How is the action on this guitar?
How do you like that guitar that you could now sell for $400 more? LOL dude you are a ridiculous player. So humble but so smooth and tasteful and technically proficient. You're amazing
This brings back a lot of memories from my early days of playing in hair bands during the 80s. Thank you for sharing. I've mentioned in the past that I would love to see you break down some playing from Eric Steckel, who plays what he calls "blues metal". He may not be as well known as many of these other players, but I would love to see you find a few pearls from his playing you might be able to share with us.
