During the attack because I'm a shorter player that can barely reach over the net in sand. So I worked plenty on defense, passing, setting and serving. But on offense can't find a good groove because I'm always setting others and not getting set back.

I tried this out today when hitting and it helped 100%. I thought "lazy", but what I really felt was my body becoming more flexible and getting better connection through the feet, legs, torso, arms and finally wrist snap. More like a whip than a bat (if that makes sense?). Anyways, it worked! Thanks!

My attack- I’m the big rusher. And you can always tell the newbie passer by their exaggerated squat stance while the server is going through their serving prep/routine, they’re tender for 2xs as long as I am in their signal that they’re ready for a tough serve

Being able to see the ball and the defense at the same time is a very advanced skill. I've been playing high level volleyball for 2 decades and I don't know many people that can track the set, see the block, get their timing right and see the defense. Personally I've had a lot of success slicing the ball so it's difficult for defenders to line up with my swing. This is very effective for me when I hit line from the weak side. When you play 2's does your partner call out where to hit if you have a blocker?

Couldn’t have described my experience while playing any better. The most I’d say is when attacking and in the second step. This led to me “jumping” the set and getting under it or having to adjust to a set last minute because I basically guessed where it would be before actually seeing it. Very helpful!

Definitely the pass is where I am the most stressed, I'm actually that player that always gets really low on my position because I used to think the lower I am to wait for the serve, the more control I will have over the ball. Now I realized that I'm stressing out too much about exactly that control that I want to have on the pass, and I will certainly be changing my approach to serve-receive with a lazier position!! Thank you Brandon :)

This is for BB to A level grass here in Denver, but on defense knowing when they score a low percentage good shot and not adjusting to it prematurely. I see it a lot at BB, but as people get to AA they know better when to chill out instead of adjusting to a low percentage play.

Thanks for these great tips! I'm most stressed before attacking. With passing and setting, the movements seem quite automated but with attacking, there's always so much to think about: where's the ball, the net, the opponents, take two aggressive steps, swing the arms back, point to the ball, stay behind the ball, have your elbow back, contact at the highest point...🤪 So relaxing more could help!🤣

These words are Gold to me. I've always thought the "sitting" starting pass position makes you feeling like you're doing squats. The saddest thing is that every coach I have had tought that to me. The most important thing, in my opinion, is keeping the feet "light", as if the sand's burning: this is for every moment during the match. Anyway, the pass position is the most critical from this point of view.

I feel like I give my partner a good pass, I kick out and as I begin my approach the set becomes a trap or a low set. That’s when I feel stress, I have to basically put on the brakes, do I suddenly become a blocker, do I have to now poke the ball, do I have to stop and pull because the guy got perfect set and will hit me in my face. At the same time I’m frustrated at my partner for putting me in this situation. I feel stress because I’m not sure what to do and it usually doesn’t end well.

hits are easy, most everyone loves hitting even if they aggressively charge and don't hit good digging a spike is the least fun, especially if your group doesn't have blockers returning from a good server is second least fun, mainly because a few bad returns and its in your head setting is stressful just because you want to do good and it's all on you, I bet it's the most stressful in play where they actually call illegal handsets, which I think is one of the more subjective rules in all of sports.

So it seems like digging and passing are the most stressful skills for you. Something that helps to be less stressed is realizing that no matter how the play ends, it's always only worth one point! The most embarrassing play where you shank the ball or get hit in the face is worth the same amount of points as your most amazing play. Just because you get aced once, it doesn't have to effect the next play if you don't let it get in your head! When I was playing in a tournament for the first time on the sand I found that I didn’t have good footwork since I wasn’t used to the shifting of the sand. I could feel my feet almost tweak when I was pushing too hard off the sand. How can I work on that? How do I move better in the sand?

If you aren't used to playing on sand it will be weird for awhile. It takes some time to move efficiently so just keep at it if you can!

@@betteratbeachvolleyball am I supposed to push hard off my feet? I feel like I’m gonna twist/sprain my ankles from time to time LOL.

@@jay7tennis I think it might be because on solid ground you are used to getting your power from your toes while in sand every movement if also more taxing. What I’m getting at is try placing more of your weight on your heels to get more power per step. It’s well known that when you jump on sand you rely more on your knees and your foot for the jump so maybe apply more weight to your heels and your footwork should improve.

@@fakeboss4037 oh thanks!! I’ll try that out!
