This was a very informative video! Just before watching it, I assumed that there would be a "frequency masking" technique employed and there wasn't, much to my surprise. I feel very empowered learning the approaches you took with making a vocal "sit back" into the mix. This provokes a lot of thought within me because I wonder how do we determine with music beds whether a vocal will be up-front or set-back within a mix. It would be interesting to understand this strategy. But I'm very inspired and little less intimidated by vocal mixing because of this video. 😀 Thanks so much for sharing!

I like to think of my vocals in a 3d space! Theres a front to back and a side to side. I always try to figure out if my vocals should be more FORWARD OR LIVE INSIDE THE BEAT. I have a tutorial on frequency masking coming!!!

A very overlooked part of Mixing Vocals is setting up Dynamic EQs with narrow Qs to boost the Key of the Song by a dB or two. It only takes 3 or 4 Dynamic EQs across a few octaves to make a HUGE difference. Tiny moves add up. If there is a Key Change, you can automate the EQs to move to the other Key as well.

Good recordings make for easier mixing! When it comes to these techniques drastic moves are something I really see a lot of RU-vid tutorials do I don’t want to be disingenuous and literally mess up a vocal on purpose and then show you a night a day difference I want you to take the technique and use it in your own way. Even tho I have a scenario where the vocal was recorded well. You can still grab from the actual technique without me giving you a sensationalized example! I hope that’s ok! But I will show you guys some examples of huge drastic changes soon! Just know that I will tell you first that this is a troubled recording first!

Clarity 10khz, Presence in the 1.5khz range, Bite is a combination of 811hz, 1800 hz, and 5500, and air is a high shelf at 10khz all the db boost are under 6 db or less very subtle with these moves

Help! 🤲I have all skills of recording, mixing and mastering but my songs sound weird and abnormal it's like Im on a podcast, the vocals are too overpowered I tried all presets on RU-vid but my music pierce ears can u help pls, I'm using rode nt1a and Scarlett solo...
