All the tips were great. I agree with them all. The third one, resonated with me, especially the recommendation to check out a variety of teachers. The other tip that was great was to break chord progression down into small chunks and to REPEAT practicing them until you land the transitions smoothly. I have been learning since 2014. I get better but hit those ruts you spoke of. That leads to the one thing that you implied, but was missing and that is to commit to a routine to at pick up your guitar REGULARLY. Even if it is just for 20 minutes at a time, once a day for at least 6 of the 7 days in a week. The other thing that was missing is that ruts are normal. The ah ha moments come and things start to make sense in your head as well as in your hands. Lastly, I said this the other day it is worth re-sharing with you. Your clear communication style, cadence and patience Is really helpful to the effectiveness of your teaching. Thank you!

Tizo, I’ve been playing for over 20 years. For 15 of those years I didn’t know any music theory which held me back. I also couldn’t find any structured R&B guitar lessons until about 5 years ago. It helps when you’re learning the type of music you enjoy.

I have been playing for 3 years. Love all you do. What's holding me back is progression through different chords. I would love a tutorial on a song by Kevin Ross call Sweet Release. Thanks for helping me through my guitar journey.

I've been playing for about 2.5 years. I agree about focusing on 1 topic per month, but I still don't do it all the time, I can be all over the place! The times that I do take my time learning a thing, it comes out in my playing without me thinking about it, which is how I want playing to feel all the time. Maybe that'll be my goal for this year, 12 months, 12 topics. Keep up the good lessons!

Good stuff...I'd love a copy of your R&B Chord Library...love that you referenced Marty Schwartz as well...I've played off and on since I was 7, playing for a few years and taking years off across my 20's, 30's and 40's and finally getting serious @ 47 about 5 years ago...started following Marco Cirillo who is amazing at fingerstyle (I hate picks), then some of the guys you named for other tips (Marty Schwarz, Justin Guitar and plenty others)...about a year later I found Kerry2Smooth but his stuff was way over my head at the time...found Simone (The Bearded Guitarist) and he opened up so much for me regarding R&B...my progress was slow because my schedule didn't allow for much practice but finally started catching on and hit a plateau after about a year...about 6 months ago Kerry's stuff starts coming up in my feed again and it started to click immediately and since then my progress has been crazy...right now, still working on connecting melodies/soloing but my chord knowledge across most keys is there... Came across you looking for a tutorial on Snooze and instantly became a fan...thank you for good breakdown as practice is always so spotty for me...I have 5 R&B/neo-soul songs and some Christmas songs for the holidays I want to learn by year end, learn how to solo better and get more proficient in every key/get better at modulation and changing keys...it's a lot but I want to be comfortable singing/playing live going into next year...thank you for this lesson 👊🏾🎸🔥🖤

Hi Tizo, I've been playing guitar for 14 years. I agree with all of these but my main two are losing focus and putting pressure on myself to learn songs. I will set unreasonable timelines for learing songs.

Hey Tizo, ive been playing for about ten years and i agree with the not knowing what to practice and it leading to lack of motivation part. I went to school for the theory i have an understanding of it but not how to apply it in real time. Something I still have trouble with is branching outside of just playing the main melody lines when playing in church
Ahh a fellow church musician! I can completely relate to wanting to play it safe on stage. Definitely don’t want to overplay and be a distraction. I will say, the times when I do a little more than usual (nothing too spicy) folks will come up after service and say it sounded great. Tasteful playing with a spoonful of ear candy is the recipe!
