I mean, you can make it happen using a Mk7/7.5 and a decent (but not unreasonable) helping of money. Buy a Golf Alltrack or 4Motion Sportwagen, swap on the R bumpers, any other body pieces needed from the R, and some good Pretoria wheels (those are my favorite, but any R wheel fits). Then, either mod the 1.8T or swap in the 2.0T from the R (have a shop do it ideally).
A spare should fit down there. That's what that empty space is around the subwoofer (the round thing in there that isn't a tire). I have a MK7.5 and I have a spare down in that spot without the subwoofer. If you look at other Golfs, there are ones with both a spare tire and a subwoofer down in that space.
