You remind me of Denzel Washington Real life equalizer 😄😄😄 But i love your content really practical and it is saving life. Thank you on the behalf of people who are alive because of your content.
I really do apply what I am able to absorb here. I don't really get into fights. Except a few on the street due to the type of area I live in being gang infested. I no longer teach martial arts because of physical constraints due past injuries that are catching up due to my age as well as depression. So I had an incident last month on my way to the clinic to pick up my meds. So on the way I see these characters shouting at me in that subculture language hoss jy I couldn't see what they carrying and understood their intentions. But I was scared. There was no way I could turn and run because the distance was further than the corner I need take on the right to get into the road of the clinic. They were approximately that same distance facing me from the corner. So I decided to increase my walking speed and momentum heading straight in their direction. The aim was to get that corner first. I did and turned right into the road of the clinic and maintained my walking speed. I made it there safely. Also if the had to attack then, there always are a lot of people standing outside the clinic. I really wasn't feeling up to fetching my meds this month though honestly. I still have enough for another month or so will sort it out then lol
I train in Muay Thai haven't being in the ring in 20 due to health reasons cancer 3 times and heart failure but I am back training and training to fight this is so true trust me if I gave up I would be dead at 27 from stage 4 classic b cell Hodgkin's lymphoma Just dig in and keep fighting that's my only advice
Spot on 💯🔥 I would just add this though: a very wise old friend of mine once told me: “Aim for the stars, and you’ll at least clear the roof. But aim for the roof and you might never even leave the ground.” 🙏
I can't believe the generational fragility of people unable to accept blunt advice and basic truths. This "Generation X" person appreciated this video. Good job.
I've had many years of training in combat arts and I enjoy your videos. You're concise and to the point. The techniques are reality based and effective. The "tough guy" comment is just a dipstick who'd never get into a cage with you under any circumstances.
Great video Mark. If you keep persevering and facing difficult situations, you eventually build the habit of doing this. Seeing difficulties as 'challenges' and a chance to grow stronger is an incredibly empowering thing.
I love the psychology behind your video and I fully agree, fighting is probably more mental than physical, however, you need both to be an achiever.. Great video, looking forward to many more 👍👍👍👍
Absolutely incredible. I have a diagnosed anxiety disorder and diagnosed ADHD, and when i get up in the morning i don't feel to good. However, prayer aside, as i wake i look to my right on my bedside cabinet, and there he is in a photo frame Rocky Balboa with the USA flag around him, after he defeated Ivan Drago and he got the impossible victory. That then inspires me to get up and flight the good fight of life. This is a great inspirational video not just for fighting, but in all areas of our lives. Thank you my friend. God bless you.
Thanks for the video. Interesting last point I think. The latest fight I had was on the street. Someone threw something at my head, so I hit them in their face multiple times in retaliation. It was a scary experience. I think sensible people are always scared, but more experienced fighters who spar and train often are better at controlling it to respond immediately either in a competition or in a hostile situation.
Thank you for this video! Exactly, don't tell yourself im gonna do something and then don't do it , I'm gonna sleep at that time and you don't, im gonna stop eating fast food and u don't stop it .by the time your mentally gets waek and weaker. Again thanks for reminding me about it ❤❤
This is the best advice, not only for fighters, but for all things in life that one needs to put effort into to overcome difficulties, obstacles, low self-motivation, etc. - Apply that to any job, any activity, even cleaning up your garage or doing the dishes.
Thank you Sifu. I'm having elbow surgery in 4 days so I was feeling f**k it, I'm going to have to take 2 months off for rehab anyway so take today off. But I'll get one of my last workouts done today. Thanks.
@@jonathanharwood1255 Thanks for checking in Jonathan. The surgery was a bigger deal than I thought it would be, so the 2 months stretched into closer to 4 before my elbow was feeling useable again but I turned the corner in the last month or so and I'm slowly clawing my way back. Each training session gets just a tiny bit easier. Take care and stay safe.
@@shevetlevi2821 no worries mate. I'm glad to hear you're doing much better. It will take time and unforseen circumstances can come up but keep pushing forward. You'll get there. Thanks mate, you take care too. Happy Easter.
So well said! This is a Life Lesson…I know it’s directed at fighters but this can be applied to your everyday living. Yes you need all of the said in combat. But there is also the battle of “Life struggles “.
Get comfortable with feeling uncomfortable. The only way you improve at anything is persevering through discomfort. The folk who are seen as successful in various aspects of life (business, sport) etc Are Serial Failures They just persevered and improved
Thank you Dr. Phillips for sharing. This video’s message is a gem! Your pointers ring true with many a life’s goal(s). As far as professional fighters go, one person who epitomizes what you’re talking about: the resilience, perseverance, and mental toughness is none other than Zhang Weili!
I'm gonna share this with a Gen Z student of mine. I think this will be good for her. She has what it takes and I think this will help her see it! BIG THX!!!
Thank you Sir. This one leans more into the mindset of a good fighter. Basically how to stay motivated to train and be the best. Applies to other aspects of our lives as well.
@@fightscience Sounds good il be watching and listening when it airs, i dont know if you have a website i could contact some day perhaps too for info but thanks.
There was basketball coach here in Illinois who had a team slogan MTXE-Mental Toughness Extra Effort. He was a pretty successful coach who produced winning teams even though technically he wasn't that good a coach.
*"Only he who gives up on himself is truly lost."* - Oberst Hans-Ulrich Rudel, the highest-decorated soldier of WW2 and the most successful combat pilot in history. Read his book "Trotzdem" (Nevertheless) if you want a real lesson in perseverance, mental toughness and dedication to duty.
Insane, there are many ideas about strength and to judge someone weak is a prime example of ignorance and weakness, putting someone down just to elevate yourself is weak.
Spoken before you watched the video. Perhaps be a little more open minded in the topic of self improvement. Sometimes you have to lean into the the negative to highlight the positives.
What? this is not a self improvement video, if you are not one of the channels that lazily regurgitate what has ben said 1 thousand times before then hurray for you but you do not get credit for that, your supposed to be original and not copy 75% of your video from someone else, seriously dont try to spin this, just do your best, also say what you mean, no one believes your not trying to say some men are weak, its in the damn title of your video.
I don't mind a little positive criticism but you did not provide any, also I only take it from people I respect and you with your "fragile generation" shows your just running your mouth without knowing what your saying, how old do you think I am, punk?
This advice could all have been given without glorifying toxic masculinity or belittling people's challenges. A child dies. Your child. How tough are you now? Where's your strength going? Where's your ambition gone? Want to tell someone they're weak, that they lack discipline and endurance, when merely waking up every morning and making it through to sleep at night is a battle? There's a scale of disaster outside anyone's control that far exceeds any twee aphorisms about manly strength.
Universal values of perseverance and resilience aren't "toxic masculinity", they a traditional masculine traits that can be used by all...honestly. Certainly, grieve...but glorifying grief is a form toxicity in itself.
Well I'm British and not interested in U.S. politics. This is a discussion on the right mindset to achieve and improve at any task. It's about not giving up.
Please don’t make these kinds of videos. Way too much of this crap on YT already. Please keep it to the practical. There’s a dirth of this stuff already and such a scarcity of the CREDIBLE self-defense advice and information your channel provides.
