PingSunday video is made with Love.
A player asked me "Hello coach EmRatThich, can you talk more about you? What does "emratthich" mean? And why your blog is called as pingsunday"? So today, let have some fun with me.
I am curious Coach, what is your personal blade set up and what is your playing style?
I'm using a custom blade, straight handle, large head, and heavy blade. My setup is 205g. Before I'm using the DHS on my forehand. Since then, I couldn't find a reliable source, so I just playing a hard Stiga rubber on both sides (max thickness, ESN hardness scale 50-51 degree, equivalent to 36-37 DHS hardness scale). I'm playing at mid-distance, 1 and a half arm distance.

I just had a training session and I just love how you can just be in the moment and focus 100% and the satisfaction of hitting the ball perfectly. Actually It's the only thing I really enjoy doing right now, I don't get how I stopped playing. thanks for your video I enjoyed the video about CHO LE! All the best from germany

Hi Coach, always love your videos and have learnt a lot from you. I always thought you’re a Chinese coach as you always teach about Chinese techniques. It’s nice to know more about you, my online Coach. As you asked in your comment, my blade is Harimoto ALC blade. I am using Hurricane 8 2.2mm on both forehand and backhand. My style is attacking. I have played table tennis only 1.5 years. Harimoto is a good blade with good vibration and feeling. I like Hurricane rubber as it gives me feeling of grasping the ball and i can hit harder as it’s not too fast. I would like to know a bit about practicing with robots in table tennis. Does it help? I never seen top players using robots. If you could make a video about that it will be fantastic.

Hi EmRat, I watched your video " how to select rubber". You gave high comment of Chinese philosophy of using hard rubber on the forehand to get more power . I have used DHS Hurrican neo 3 rubber and some German rubber ( such as Joola Engergy). I did not get good bounce on Chinese rubber , but got good bounce on German rubber, I have to disagree with your point " that Chinese top players use Chinese hard rubber..." Can you tell us which world top players are using Chinese hard rubber ?

I use 10 mm 1 ply hinoki Japanese penhold with xiom spo short pips but I am considering to change to Chinese penhold because I want to play with rpb do you have any recommendations coach?
@canicetang8837
@canicetang8837 4 года назад
I might be able to help a little bit because I am a lifelong Chinese Penhold player. Before you commit to a change. Let me ask you several questions first. 1. What is your typical playing style with your J-Pen? Typical close to the table, block and push block with your backhand and all out attack with your forehand? 2. Since you are playing with the short pips. Are you a primarily a grinder chopper type? And trying to get your opponent to make a mistake or take your first chance to attack? 3. Why would you like to change to a C-Pen? Would you like to add more varieties and offensive arsenal to your game? 4. If you are committed to a C-Pen, have you been playing with a similar set up in that particular style? There will be quite a bit of adjustments. 5. With the Chinese C-Pen, there are variety of ways to hold with your thumb and your index finger. Also the last three fingers supporting the backhand side with also dictate your style of play as well. There are obviously advantages and drawbacks on each. I really hope you are making this decision carefully. The choices of C-Pen blades are more than J-Pen. But far fewer than the Shakehand grips of course. So that in itself needs to be a consideration. One of my suggestion is to borrow a spare C-Pen paddle and getting comfortable with the grip. As you do not have to closing off your thumb and index finger as you did with the J-Pen. The advantage of the C-Pen is the flexibility of the grip and the loosing of the wrist to be a lot more creative with your strokes. I will say practise with a C-Pen until you are comfortable in committing to a custom blade that suits your style. If you want to stay close to the table and maintaining your short pips on your forehand, then you might want to consider a similar set up with the material (Hinoki or the thicker balsa type). Otherwise, since most RPB are done close to the table. Similar set up would be fine. However, if you want to have a game similar to Joo Se Hyuk with defensive chops in the distance, then you would probably have to change materials to get the depths you needed. The good news for you is that the new PVC balls with the rougher surface, harder to spin and higher bounces, works well with your current game. Some of the 1980s tactics, such as offensive push blocks, are coming back to the modern game. If your game is changed, then your technique will need to change to with your footwork at mid and longer distances. Once again, it is all up to you. The RPB is one of the most difficult stroke to master in table tennis. Your grip with your thumb and index finger need to change. Similar to a backhand loop, you need to focus on the bounce of the ball. Think of 'friction over force' as you bent your wrist at almost 90 degrees to act as a 'spring' and accelerate through the motion. It is a beautiful and effective stroke if you can master it properly. But like I said, your last three fingers which you support the backhand will determine the quality and consistency of the shot itself. Good luck! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you!

@@canicetang8837 my playing style is blocking and counter drive. My pips is andro blow fish which does not have any deception. I want to play Chinese penhold because I would like to add more variation to my game like rpb and twiddle between short pips and inverted rubber like Wang zengyi and Liu guoliang.
