When I was driving truck I would keep a Mr. Buddy with me on the truck just in case I broke down and it was cold outside. and I would keep a case of Sterno fuel and some fire bricks as well. My biggest backup plan was a Tent, Fishing pole and axe and Knife. Just in case I slid off the road and had to abandon my truck All these things came in handy. Only had to use it once for those scenarios, but once, made it worth it. That sterno fuel, You can dip a stick into the gel and use that as a fire starter make it last longer for you.

As an ice fisherman in the midwest, I've been using Mr. buddy heater systems for close to 20 years. Thought I knew everything that could be done with them. Done the cooking rack, the 20lb tank, used the top of my shack to hang wet gear above the heater to dry. But there are really cold days that make me bring out the big buddy with the built-in fan. Knew of the existence of heat generated fans for wood burners but never put 2 and 2 together. Also, I didn't know you could get them so cheap. So thank you for showing me something new, sir.

Great video and really good ideas. Only comment is that paint tray is stainless steel coated in zinc. Heating zinc can create zinc oxide and cause flu like symptoms (or worse in large amounts). For the fan, I did the hack where you take a Dremmel and just cut slot in the vertical part of the fan, just above the base, and you can slide it right into the built-in grill (I show it toward the end of my cargo trailer tour video). And, you're right, it moves some serious air, even in our 6x10 trailer.

Buddy series heaters are time tested by outdoorsman/ survivalists,and safe for indoor use. Internal operating temps are over 500 degrees,so keep on floor away from combustible objects,like bedding/ furniture/ drapes/ etc. Never bring a White #20 outdoor grill propane tank,inside any dwelling. Run a 10 foot Buddy hose from that tank,indoors through a cracked open window or door.That allows additional oxygen intake for heater while running.Or,use indoors with 1 or 2 green 1# camping propane tanks.The small green tanks can be refilled from a white 20# grill tanks,RU-vid is full of how to videos.All you need is a $10 refill valve,from Walmart or Amazon.Also,a digital postal type scale,to prevent over filling. These heaters have been used for millions of hours,for years,inside RVs / ice fishing shanty's/ homes/ apartments/ travel trailers/ etc etc. Always good to use Carbon Monoxide detectors+ smoke detectors,when running any portable heaters.

The Mr Heater has a regulator built into it.. go read their website.. With the Mr Heater you do need to get a fuel filter otherwise it will clog at all up because regular propane is dirty .. the green bottles are pure so you don't really need it with them but it's way too expensive to use them they only last 5 hours if you're lucky ..and you have to get Mr heater hoses only because they don't have the oil in them that will clog it up.. That paint tray he recommends is stainless steel coated with zinc which is toxic as is Galvanized Steel.. The commenters recommend using a camping Grill which is made of stainless steel unsafe.. Always have two windows cracked open one to two inches with any heat that you have.. You need fresh air no matter what anybody says how safe it is.. And use fire resistant stove gloves because that tray and fan get really hot.. If you use the tray,wrap that handle on the heater with tin foil because the handle will melt

People should read the comments and he should have added these tips especially since he wrote this a month ago.. The paint tray that he says to use is stainless steel coated with zinc which is toxic as is Galvanized Steel.. They say to use a camping Grill which is made only of stainless steel and is safe.. Always crack two windows 1- 2 inches open with any kind of heat that you use no matter what anybody says how safe it is.. You need fresh air.. And to wrap the handle with tin foil because that heater handle will melt from the heat of the tray.. And to use fire resistant stove gloves because that tray and fan get hot..

That's very useful stuff! I've had that heater for a couple of years and never thought to do anything like that. The fan thing is probably the most useful in ordinary situations. Of course another important thing is to get the hose, regulator and possibly filter for the 15 pound grill tanks. On the mid or high settings especially, this heater will tear through the one pound cylinders in no time.
@michaelbest7872
@michaelbest7872 Год назад
Thank you for sharing these tips and such. Also, I'm now a subscriber because you share HOW to do things and share what you know with others, instead of keeping it to yourself. Over 2 years ago, I bought 2 Mr. Buddy heaters. I didn't think I would have to use them so quickly! In that emergency, I was thankful I had an alternative heat source. I admit that I didn't learn HOW to use them UNTIL I needed them! So, I was stressed when I tried to use them in that moment! I used these heaters last winter when unexpectantly, my oil tank failed. Thank God I also prepped propane canisters too, because it took over 2 weeks to have a new oil tank installed and oil delivered! These two heaters helped to supplement heat in my home, along with other electric heaters. My electric bill was much higher too during that month. The Mr. Buddy heaters HELP, but don't expect them to heat a HOUSE! And from my experience, when I had to use them, the propane cylinders only lasted at a max of 4 hours. So, if you're expecting someone to be home when the cylinder runs out, then okay, as long as you have enough propane cylinders to replace and continue giving heat. Also, the Mr. Buddy heaters are not meant to be substitute for a furnace or some thing. Only for a short time! That's my experience. I did NOT know how easily one could pop off the grill cover or attach simply a paint tray and potentially use it for cooking too! Maybe some others knew this but thank YOU for sharing this! I have some propane canisters still in my preps, but now, I'll add more, while the prices are still affordable for me, and the propane is available. Some people keep their knowledge of some things to themselves, for selfish reasons. Those that do, may find themselves without help when THEY NEED something, as no one person knows everything!
@brucefrye2292

Check the videos on how to refill your canisters, and you'll save even more.
@maryjomorra2865
@maryjomorra2865 Год назад
Use a 20 lb propane tank at least and you'll save a whole lot of money those little canisters are kind of worthless and too expensive.. Make sure you get a fuel filter when you use that bigger tank.. Some of the commenters are saying that that paint tray is made of stainless steel coated with zinc and that it's toxic.. as is galvanized steel . They say to get a camping grill which is made only of stainless steel and safe.. and always have a window or two cracked a couple of inches when you're using any kind of stove And use fire resistant stove gloves because that fan and Grill get very hot.. And to cover the handle of the stove with tin foil because that Grill is going to get really hot and it can melt the handle

We use these heaters a lot and it is possible to connect a 5 gallon tank with a hose adapter and filter from many hardware stores. The filter is very important as it keeps the pilot light from clogging up so the heater will last many years. I like the paint tray and fan idea.
