In this video I talk about the three major properties which dictate a discs flight, and the three major form components to increasing your ability to manipulate those flight characteristics in order to break 400ft.
Let your body figure out the small things and focus on these three big things throughout your throw.

@@hotbeefdiscgolf absolutely, I still haven't quite got it locked down how to get that feeling consistently but I know when I do feel it I'm about to get a nice flight out of the disc.

Yoooo, that grip tip is probably gonna be money. I've been trying to push down with the thumb and up with the back fingers, but that push n pull feels way more comfortable. Can't wait to try it in the field. Edit. It works.

Actually he didnt mention the most important part on how to get nose down and he uses it too... leave the little finger out of it. Its that simple.
@hotbeefdiscgolf
@hotbeefdiscgolf 3 месяца назад
Oh my gosh I didn't mention that! I totally forgot. I have to use a 3 finger grip because my hands are smaller! The 3 finger was the only way I could reach that far nose down lol!

@@Boltzi With my old grip I was using pinky to push the back up to help tilt it down. Now it just sits there under the rim for comfort, but not really doing anything or applying any pressure.

I’ve watched a lot of form and training videos, but this short video has been one of the most helpful. I never understood coiling the hips until you showed the motion. I realized I’ve been throwing essentially without hip coil. I’m working on it now and I played one of my best league rounds today and went out to the field and promptly threw a 350’ shot and averaged my drivers at about 325’ coming from an average of 285 previously. Thanks for the video!

As someone who recently got to the 400' mark I think that not every element of a throw is equally weighted in importance. Ultimately for a disc to go 400', it has to be released fast. You have to accelerate the disc from zero to say 65 MPH in the short distance you pull through. That MOSTLY takes power delivered correctly. Think cars and acceleration. If you were limited to 1/10 of a mile to accelerate to 65 MPH there's a lot of factors that HELP, like lighter car, wheel lightness, aerodynamics, traction, body stiffness. But ultimately you need a certain amount of power and torque to make it happen, or it simply WON'T happen. Work on building your core and arm strength specifically on the motions involved in a throw and you'll see the biggest gains the fastest. Impeccable form with 250' of power will get you 250'. Trash form with 500' of power might get you 300. The perfect form is only going to delivery the maximum your muscles are limited to.
@Boltzi
@Boltzi 3 месяца назад
And its mainly about explosive power, not just big muscles. Just wanted to correct that much since thinking about musclecars with 500hp is not the same thing 😅

I thought you were supposed to coil your shoulders against your hips, wouldn't coiling your hips just take away power?
@hotbeefdiscgolf
@hotbeefdiscgolf 3 месяца назад
I think this is a good talking point. Perhaps this might be one of those things thats different for each thrower. I know that with my range of motion, I physically cannot coil my shoulders full without my hips, and that by rotating my hips counter clockwise and then clockwise I feel all of the muscles in my back and core fire. Worth investigating!!!
@jerramy1997
@jerramy1997 2 месяца назад
No
@Miiloh
@Miiloh 2 месяца назад
@@jerramy1997 I mean if you don't coil your shoulders against your hips, and you start your throw by turning your hips. What would that initially do? Nothing. But coiling your shoulders against your hips will create more tension in your torsoe, causing power to be more efficiently transfered from your lower body to your upper body. When you fire your hips, your shoulders will also move, which is more powerful/efficient. Correct me if I'm wrong, but to me coiling your shoulders against your hips makes more sense from a biomechanics standpoint.

Why do you add background music? I came here to hear what you had to say about throwing, but the noise is very distracting. I could download the video, upload to an AI tool that strips music, download and watch... but that's a lot of work. If you're trying to entertain or sell, sure go ahead and do what you want, but if you're actually trying to communicate and teach, please for the love of God respect #accessibility and don't add noise.

Thank you for the feedback! This is genuinely helpful. I had no intention of being exclusionary. You could also mute the video and turn on closed captioning, that would be easier. I will reflect on your constructive advice though and really put it into consideration for future uploads.
