i also spent about 4 hours on teh great plateau exploring every nook and cranny. i didn't want to miss anything before leaving, even though i knew i could come back (i hate re-treading). so my addition to this video would be: Don't leave the GP without finding all the Koroks (18 of them). you can go back to the shrine of resurrection later to get the last one to make it 19.
hey fun fact! ure nr 2: instead go to the cabin where old man lives, and cook "1 spicy pepper - 1 raw meat - 1 hyrule bass fish" and he gives you the coat right away! just read the diary on the table, the recepie is written in it =)

Fun tip: early on keep a wooden shield or two and let archers shoot at you. Fast and easy way to stock up regular arrows since the enemies seem to have an unlimited amount until they are defeated
I discovered that after probably hundreds of hours of playing. I was dodging arrows so I could pick them up, but the game only lets you pick up a few before it stops generating them, then I started moving towards the Bokoblin shooting at me. I blocked an arrow with my wooden shield and was surprised to see the arrow go in my inventory when I put my shield up.
this is great advice until you need +2 level cold or warm resist, then the weapon is not enough and you have to wear the doublet along with the weapon which sucks because of the low defense. best thing to do is cook food for medium level resist. that way, you can wear and equip whatever you want.
Also, behind the smaller waterfall (towards the inside of the Great Plateau) of the River of the Dead, there are 3 chests, containing 5 normal arrows, 5 fire arrows, and a soldier's broadsword. (Just in case there are still any newbies watching this ;) lol)
Yep, grab the big tree leaf jump on the boat and use the leaf to literally propel yourself directly across from the dock under the waterfall. There’s also a seed underneath the dock further down that river. It’s hard to get to as it’s literally underneath the dock. I put the log that’s close to it but being held by steaks in stasis, Then hit it to dislodge it then I used the ice blocks to move it closer and closer to the spot where you literally need to stand on the log right next to the little shimmering spot.
Get as many hidden koroks that you can, you will be glad you did if you can manage to figure out who the guy is that uses them and how to reach him when he gets home.

yes! try to get all 17 koroks on the plateau before you leave! (there are actually 19 but one can't be accessed until you first leave and the other one is technically at the base of the plateau so you can't get to it until you jump off.
lol, yeah arrows are scarce, whenever I'm short, I seek out some Bokoblin archers , dodge the arrows, then gather up like twenty loose arrows each time
You don't have to dodge them. Just hold up your shield and the arrows stick. Once you put your shield away, you receive the arrows that were stuck on the shield.
Step 1: go to the ruins in front of the temple of time Step 2: find the chest in the ruins Step 3: open the chest Step 4: enjoy your Hylian trousers right at the start of the game.
Basically the starting gear to aim for is: 1. Hylian trousers as you explained 2. Warm doublet and soldiers bow as explained in this video 3. All items obtainable in the shrines like a sledgehammer and a decent shield
Ebisu It's a set number, but once in awhile you'll get a random boost to the effects of any dish when cooking, noted by a jingle toward the end of the cooking animation.

#4 - Don't leave the Great Plateau until you find all 17 Korok seeds (+1 more after you leave and then go back to the Shrine of Resurrection and +1 more at the base of the GP for a total of 19.
its all luck and good to have a back up plan, I got my switch at the local target and well I waited less than 15min for it. the line was short. 13 out of 28 consoles sold
just go to target, walmart, bestbuy, or gamestop i got mine from target they had like 7 of the grey switch consoles and 7 of the blue/red consoles. they even had extra controllers and the zelda master edition boxes etc they literally had everything at target !!
I spent 3 hours on the Plateau, going over everything doing everything. Got as many weapons as possible, and as much food and items. Certainly no regrets at all for taking my time :)
Recommend getting used to marking points of interest in your sheikah slate map. By doing this you can make your way around the plateau without doubling back on yourself. I must have spent an hour going between the old mans hut and the lake looking for fish. 🐟
Tip for fighting Stone Talus (and its variants): Just throw bombs at its arm/fists. The bombs destroy the arms and it hunches over from the shock so you can either throw another bomb on the ore deposit on it's back for damage or hop on. If you successfully take out both arms before it regens the first, it completely gets immobilized as if it threw both of its arms at you. The only real benefit of using this strategy is that you won't ever be attacked by the boulder tosses because it won't be able to toss any to begin with, otherwise, proceed with caution if you are doing it the normal way.
@@JustAHat And there's also another sledge hammer outside of the shrine, when you leave the shrine you climb the mountain to the righthand side and there's a part midway where you can stand. That's where you get the second sledge hammer.

It's actually kinda strange that the game is so open, it even gives you the option to go for the boss right away. I wonder what would happen though if you kill him THAT early.
Hmm, I beat Talos another way, stay at range, dodge his thrown fists, when he stops to rearm, shoot the crystal, that makes him drop to the ground stunned, then climb him and wail away.
7Seraphem7 or throw bombs to blow his arms off his body. that makes it easier to climb up cuz he gets stuff and falls. the arrows is something i WOULD HAVE done if i had em at the time... but sadly i did not. the bombs method is pretty good too tho!
Just pointing out, I have mapped five Taluses, and all but one of them are near a higher point, allowing you to paraglide onto them before they get up. Once they start moving, just try to hang on, and you can finish the battle in less than a minute by using the sledgehammer's charge attack.

You should also use your bombs to farm about 300 or so bundles of Wood. They're used for a giant side quest in Akkala and the Great Plateau is a GREAT (I'll see myself out after this) place to farm in peace.
Things I'd add to the list: * Collect a bunch of supplies before even taking on the first shrine so that everything stays day. * Gather plenty of Wood and Chu Jelly. Take the Chu Jelly to a fire and drop it next to the flames to keep an early stash of Fire Chu Jelly. Whenever you need a handy fire hold one stack of Wood & one Fire Chu Jelly, drop them and hit the jelly with an arrow (from a safe distance) to have a fire on hand. * Collect whatever you can from the plateau (food, wood, bugs, arrows, etc). This way you can sell extras ASAP and leave with a hearty supply. * Before you use up your swords, catch a bunch of Restless Crickets to make small stamina potions early on. This is especially good for catching stronger horses sooner (The White Stallion was my first horse). ;) * Use as many wood sticks as you can before using actual weapons until you leave and the Blood Moon resets things.
+Epicman Zero Considering the ease of getting the items to make stamina replenishing meals I wouldn't be suprised if he did it to climb all the way down. Mayby he just slided down the cliff and then grabbed onto it before impact. If you are climbing and you let go, you can still grab onto the wall if you are close enough while falling.
I got the warm doublet by cooking hyrule bass, raw meat, and spicy pepper then I have it to the man and he gave it to me before I ever went in the cold
And once it’s time to leave the Great Plateau, there is actually a shrine in the Gerudo Desert you can glide straight to. (A fairly low-danger puzzle shrine that can be dealt with easily enough. You just need a decent sense of timing.) There is also a bokoblin camp below it full of blue and black bokoblins, where you can just keep throwing bombs down from the ledge overlooking the camp without being in any danger. Patience allowed me to get my hands on some dragon bone weapons and shields before teleporting back to the plateau and gliding into Hyrule Field.
The Great Plateau is my favorite start of a game because it feels like the fate of the world is relying on you and your wits to survive before you have weapons. Think about it, you just realize, you need to survive, and get off the plateau to go save the Princess, nothing else. You wake up, get the Sheikah Slate and some old clothes, and that's all your starting gear. If it weren't for the player being smart and having survival instincts, the Great Plateau is somewhat challenging. For instance, you know you're gonna need everything you can get to fight those enemies, and as such, you search chests before leaving the shrine. Most players take the old man's apples and sledgehammer, but if you didn't think you would need these to survive, you would ignore them and be stuck with a twig to fight the bokoblins. Some players were a bit curious about the Old Man's Diary, such as myself, and read through it to be able to make the Spicy Meat and Seafood Fry, which got the player the Warm Doublet to get the shrine on Mount Hylia. Those same players probably also found the chest with the Hylian Trousers, and had a decent set of clothes before even leaving the Plateau. Now let's assume you have absolutely no survival instinct. You wake up, grab the Sheikah Slate, and maybe grab the clothes in the chests. You ignore the iron sledgehammer and apples near the Old Man. You don't read through the Old Man's Diary, and don't get the Warm Doublet until you get all the way to Hateno Village later into the game. You don't get the recipe for Spicy Meat and Seafood Fry, and have a difficult time getting the shrine on Mount Hylia. You leave the Plateau with the Old Shirt and Old Trousers, and do not grab the Soldier's Bow, being left with a Boko Bow, a few arrows, and some minor damage weapons. After this you probably don't bother getting a horse and walk to Hateno Village. The game is much harder if you don't have the instincts you need to play.
Ok have you seen this? I was "trying" to fight the stone talus near the hylia bridge when i noticed a fking dragon flying over hylia bridge. When i died i tried to see if it would reappear but it didnt
I figured you were haha I guess it's good to know that a torch will give you enough warmth to travel through the mountains assuming you don't unequip it.
Like any open world game make sure to loot all you can before leaving the plateau. Find food, arrows, creature parts, and make and stock up all sorts of items like food and elixirs for the trip off the plateau.
You can also get the quilted shirt (or as is weirdly called here in germany "Winterwams" - it's by no means a Wams whatsoever) by cooking the meal the old man wants to recreate but can't quite remember the ingredients - read his diary in his cabin for further information. This way you can actually get it before wandering into a cold area for the first time ever.
I think that beating Steppe (Stone) Talus is going to be one of the last things I do before leaving the plateau. After I sink a ton of hours into this game I think that I might do a second play through, only using thrown weapons. So I won't be able to use Melee attacks, I have to throw everything. This will probably increase the challenge and difficulty a lot, because it would really force me to pick my battles so as to not waste weapons.
you can also get the Warm Doublet before you go the snowy region, all you need is read his diary and make the dish he forgot the recipe for, if you talk to him near his wooden house the option for the recipe pops up and he will give you the Warm Doublet in exchange for the recipe
I personally didn't find Number 1, but my sister did while she was playing Zelda on switch in car while I was driving xD It was hilarious when she was yelling on panic, I didn't know about it, and it sure was funny to try drive the car at the same time :D
*Spoiler and slight theory alert* When you get the True Ending, Zelda will say that she doesn't "hear the voice in the sword anymore", meaning Fi, the spirit contained within the sword, has finally passed on. Now, Fi was only supposed to dissappear from Hyrule when the last of Demise's power vanished. Calamity Ganon, from what I can remember, was described as being described as a spark of its former self. Put two and two together, really.

You can also get the warm doublet even easier than that. Cook up a piece of meat, a hylian bass (detonate a bomb where you see fish in water to collect these), and a spicy pepper. Go to the Woodcutter's house at night and read his diary, and then speak to the Old Man and say I've cooked something. As thanks for figuring out the recipe he forgot, he'll give you the warm doublet.
Warm doublet: Also you can find the old man waiting his his cabin, there is book on the table that talks about his perfect recipe that he did not write down "Spicy meat a sea stir fry." Make it a show it to him and he will give the doublet. (It's an easy recipe and self explanatory, but I am still not going to ruin anyone's experimenting by giving it away). Something important I learned: you can't sneak into the bomb shrine.
I never did get that shirt from the Old Man, hmmm... Went back to his house, it's not there. Went to the mountain, it's not there.. I beat the snowy part just with cold resistant food (5 peppers = 12 mins of cold resistance) and once I left the Plateau I saw that same shirt for sale somewhere so I guess I'm forced to buy it now xD
vulpiton online you can get the fire rod from an enemy throughout the world, you will be able to tell which one when you see it because he is holding it and he is waking on air, that is also how you get the ice rod but I haven't found to electric wand yet
I found it easier to get a bass,pepper and meat to make the dish he wants to get the doublet. I didn't even know about your way,or that you could return to the cabin later to get it. Great video

Bruh. I'm 50 hours into the game, and founds these just by walking xD Here's a REAL TIP. Help out the towns people to find Shrines and get great gains. Another Pro-Tip. If you want to climb up rocks while it's raining, you need to pace yourself. Do it by steps 1-2-3-4-5-JUMP and repeat
yes! the 1-2-3-4-5-JUMP method actually works. you do slip but it's still a NET gain of 5 up. as long as you have stamina or stamina food, you can still get where ever in the rain.
A tip, on the mountain where you do the trial to get the hammer (the timefreezing trial) you can scale the mountain to the right when you go out of the "cave" and then on a small cliff midway to the top there's an extra hammer, just as the the one inside of the trial. Don't know if anyone have spotted it before.
RAW MEAT, HYLAND BASS, RED PEPPER, if you make that at the old mans cabin and talk to him he'll give you the Warm Doublet. Thats the recipe spoken about in his diary
You should balance your sense of adventure and objectives then. Coming from a previous Zelda games, I never leave fields of grass uncut, rocks unturned and pots unbroken.
"First hour or so of the game" I was on the great plateau for like 5 or 6 hours before leaving. Focused on finding as many chests and korok seeds as possible between shrines. I don't know how anyone could possibly spend only an hour or two on the plateau; if you're rushing, you're missing the point of the game.
The first time I played through I spent hours on the great plateau. That one is still my main game that I play on, but I did a second play through to see how fast I could do everything lol
Holy shit. I just realized this now, but if you look at around 2:00, the old man's breathing patterns are different to link's, specifically slower... That is a really cool detail.

I couldn't help but notice getting the paraglider isn't here, does that mean you can climb down the side of the Great Plateau with careful dropping to manage stamina?
I think that is something you MUST do. Its part of what gives the Great Plateau its tutortial aspect. Zeltik is talking about other things you should do to make things a little easier.
Aidan Ratnage you dont have to use to paraglider to get off. But its the easiest and most effiecent way. Wanna jump off? Instant death lol. To get off without the paraglider, u probably have to search for a low hanging wall and be really careful about not falling. But yeah, paraglider can only be earned by doing the four shrines on the plateau then meeting up with the old man, where he will give it to u
You can get warm clothes from Old man before you go to mountains. Just cook spicy pepper fish and raw meat and get it to him. You can find him in forest close to boss fight or outside his hut next to mountains
There are also 2 Soldier's Broadswords you can collect. One is embedded atop the outer wall behind the Ji Baij Shrine (Bomb trial), the other is in a cave behind the waterfall in the freezing area NE of Mt. Hylia. These swords have better durability and power than any other weapons you'll get on the Great Plateau.
I got the warm doublet by finding the old man near his cabin, cooking a dish with hylian bass, a spicy pepper and some raw meat... I think it's way easier to do this, and you even get to keep the meal.
Having completed all shrines and almost upgraded every piece of armor, I do not recommend selling gems. Also, you can get the Warm Doublet from him if you cook the recipe he can't remember what is. (More details in the diary in the cabin)
I'm already 26 hours into the game, so I can tell new players that the advice in this video is useful. I just wish Zeltik won't have started the video with footage from outside the plateau at the very beginning of the video. I haven't visited the desert region he showed, and spotting new enemies in new areas is one of the fun part of the game.
I just left the plateau and jumped due south. I went to towards the tower to activate it at night. It began storming and multiple enemies are in the area. I got owned a few times. Love it.

you cal also get the Warm Doublet if you make a dish for the Old Man after reading his Journal you need Meat, Peppers and a secret ingredient that can be found all around the water.
I completely forgot about the Stone Talus in the great Plateau. After exploring almost half of the world map, I will return to it. :) Thanks for the reminder.
Thanks for the sweater tip, I couldn't figure out where it was. I started playing at two this morning after picking up my pre-order. I plan to conquer the Snow Peak Shrines 1st, so I can get the Sledgehammer to quickly beat Stone Talis.
@Zeltik for number 2. there is a easier solution, you can also just cook a meal (fish+chilli+ wild meat) and give it to him and he'll give you the "Warm Doublet" without having to even go into the cold area, you can also read his diary where he mentions this recipy but cant figure out what ingridient he'd forgotten (the fish)
Not sure if you know this but there is a far easier way to get the warm doublet. You can simply walk to the eastern most side of the great plateau where you will find a log house with some axes out front. Inside the house is a book that will talk about a food recipe that needs raw meat, spicy pepper, and hyrule bass. You can get the raw meat from boars in the woods, spicy peppers are in the house, and hyrule bass can be found in the lake next to the temple of time. Make the dish and give it to the old man there and he'll give you the warm doublet.
For the warm doublet, I'd add that the old man will disappear after you've completed all 4 Plateau shrines. Found this out the hard way and had to race down the mountain before freezing to death
